Oh man, Adam, you summed up my feeling towards the Muppets. They are my people. I understand and relate to them, and they make me happy to be myself, by being so very much themselves. The Electric Mayhem especially, a group of people who care about eacho ther, and don't judge each other, and encourage one another's weirdness and passions is my friend group to a T.

My mom was a piano teacher and was most impressed that Rolf’S hand movements when playing was accurate. Recently I was pondering the fact that the Muppets are my earliest friends and the voices of Jim, Jerry, Dave, Frank, Louise and Steve instantly drive me to tears due to the memories I am flooded with when I hear them as their characters of each Muppet. Only after 20 years I finally accepted Steve as Kermit only to have them fire him. The Muppets are not the same, they lack the personality imbued by the performers who created them. I appreciate the Muppets Christmas Carol more now than ever because Frank still voiced his characters.

Jim Henson passed before my time, and while I never got to know him as a personality, I did get to revel in his work. Sesame Street helped to form me into the person I am today, and renting The Muppet movies and collects of The Muppet Show from my local library gave me many nights of laughter and joy. The KZbin channel "Defunctland" has an incredible 5-part documentary on his life, and when it got to his death and funeral I nearly wept. Seeing the degree he touched the lives of people around him in their sorrow and bittersweet remembrances felt like witnessing the funeral of a family member. It's incredible what Jim and his team managed to accomplish over their years together, and even afterwards too. There was a time where the shimmering green cursive of Jim Henson's signature was nothing more than an enigmatic name to me, but it's come to mean much more to me since.

I was lucky enough to have grown up with Sesame Street and the Muppets. I still love watching those shows. And reading and learning about the early work of Jim Henson, Frank Oz, and Carol Spiney just made me love them even more. I used to work at a family retreat center and we would do camp fires for families several times a week during the summer for the families. And I always thought of the Muppet show opening when we started each fire. One year in the winter we decided to do the “camp fire” indoors with the same songs and skits, but we used puppets. We had been donated a puppet theatre set. The creativity and freedom to be different characters was amazing! And half the time what we were doing was just to make myself and my co-worker laugh. Jim continues to be an influence on me in my work as a camp director. Thanks for sharing your journey around Jim Adam. And thank you to all the other folks who have shared their stories of Jim’s influence.
