Armor designer Melissa Ng (aka Lumecluster) visits Adam's cave and brings her new Phoenix Gauntlets, a modular design that she's been designing and prototyping for two years. Based on historically accurate 15th century gothic armor, these beautiful gauntlets are also surprisingly flexible and comfortable. Adam can't get enough of them!

Everyone should have a sword... I have a rusty little sword, but it is a real 17th C short sword, it was dug up in a field in North Wales, when I found it it was in a junk shop and the owner of the shop was using it as a fire poker... a 300 year old sword, as a bloody fire poker, he saw so little value in it I bought it off him for ten pounds!!

I have found some really cool bits and pieces over the years including an Aztec death whistle (sounds like a person screaming) and a museum casting of a carved Ancient Egyptian Owl, I have an Elizabethan coin hammered in London the year Shakespeare was writing Romeo and Juliet pieces of meteorite and fulgurites, and a piece of fossilised beach, you can see the rippled patterns of sand made by an ocean millions of years ago... And none of it was expensive, amazing the things people don't see the value in.

Major "WOW!" no.1: The realization that they are not made from anodized metal. I was so sure they were, up until they started talking about silicone. Major "WOW!" no.2: The INCREDIBLE flexibility! Cheesus! Major "WOW!" no.3: The fact that they are not painted??? I mean what the actual hell guys. Major "WOW!" no.4: The modularity. I can't even. This woman is a legit genius. And the way she integrates these with fashion and all kinds of use is just mind blowing. Some truly great design and construction going on here. Is there some kind of Nobel prize we can give her?
@thedeafgenius
@thedeafgenius 5 жыл бұрын
Nobel prize? This is not new tech or anything. People are able to do things like this today from home because machines are getting smaller and refined. Its the increase in accessibility to things so people are able to use applications from hundreds of years ago as a result. Some people just get more attention than others. Yes this is amazing stuff but you are acting like this doesn't exist.
@Sjoholm13
@Sjoholm13 5 жыл бұрын
@@thedeafgenius You sound like a bucket of laughs. I've never seen anyone do this so well, and with such vision before, so for me this might as well not have existed. If you went over to North Sentinel Island and taught the people there how the internet worked, do you think they would go "meh, this is just old tech in a new application"? It's all about perspective.
@thedeafgenius
@thedeafgenius 5 жыл бұрын
Guess you missed out on the fact I said this is indeed amazing. I was making a statement about your overreaction. Its nice to be positive but that was too much. Also that comparison you made was another perfect example of going overboard. But yes this is awesome in its own right.
@Sjoholm13
@Sjoholm13 5 жыл бұрын
@@thedeafgenius Guess you missed my point entirely. First of all, the Nobel prize thing was rather obviously a joke. Secondly, yes that comparison was overboard to clearly illustrate my point. Sometimes people don't mean things literally you know. And excuse my language, but who the fuck are you to tell me how excited I'm allowed to be? It literally does not affect you in any way. By what standards are you judging me? Is there a guidebook I can use so I know how much I can react to things?

Hosting a party, Adam pulls up in his robot pulled steampunk rickshaw, wearing a nice top hat with goggles, a cool dark leather jacket, with a brass looking collar and gauntlets, a sweet looking pauldron with a fluorescent gem sitting in the center. As he steps from his robot dog pulled rickshaw, he grabs his cane-sword hanging from the top frame. And as it trots away to park itself somewhere out of the way, he saunters lavishly toward the front door where a steam powered bellhop offers to take his hat and coat. You could seriously create a whole other world with cosmetics like this, and Adam Savage is just the guy to embody any kind of thing like that.

Your thin layer of silicion technique with a 3d printed jacket mold is certainly inspiring. Huge thanks for sharing that, I will surely try somthing similar maybe with thibra. I'm pretty sure you are using cast magic to get to vibrant colors. I appreciate that you gave a little credit to Ian laspina. Overall, amazing work. I will be watching you're work with great interest.

@@tommihommi1 you could always make a pair out of a tougher resin. From the sound of it, she casts these out of silicone, and there's no reason you couldn't use something else.
@tommihommi1
@tommihommi1 5 жыл бұрын
@@jamesburleson1916 well yeah, but that's not quite the point of these, they are fashion/costume accessories. But using the same molds for some tougher polymer should be possible, but the beautiful finish probably won't survive HEMA for long...
