I remember the very first time I saw this video was on Valentine's Day of 1983 when it was aired on MTV and that was the day I all of a sudden became an Ant Fan. Two years later, before Vive Le Rock was released, I sent Adam Ant a fan letter back in February of 1985. Then about a month later in March of 85 during a spring break vacation from school, I was in the middle of listening to my cassette tape copy of the Prince Charming album on my Sony Walkman until I checked my mail and got a sealed envelope all the way from London to the US by air mail. To my surprise, he sent me an autographed promo glossy of him with his band which consisted of Chris DeNiro, Count Wiczling and of course Marco Pirroni. That really made my day and an Ant Fan's dream come true. To this day I still have that autographed glossy proudly framed. Adam Ant is a very charismatic performer and fantastic. Love this!

I USED to have an autographed photo of Adam, Duran Duran, and a few others. A male family burnt them all!!! I was kicked out of the house, because I refused to take down my posters of Adam Ant and Duran Duran. I was 17, and 5 months from graduating high school. I enlisted in the Army, and met A LOT of Adam Ant and Duran Duran fans! I’m 53, and I STILL be-bop around the house, while cleaning and cooking dinner, then I get melancholy when I think of my mom not being here, and I’m afraid of never experiencing an Adam Ant concert. He’s STILL such an amazing artist and man. He went through so much, and came out on top with more adoring fans! I only wish that he was part of Live-Aid back in 1985. That..would’ve…been….AMAZING!!!

Thank you for the memories here. I have not seen this video here or heard it in such a long time. A hit here in Britain I think at the end of 1981 into 1982 and also the last Adam and the Ants hit before he went solo from what I can remember. A swish video filmed at Bodiam Castle in East Sussex and with Lulu in it as well!! Their previous number one hit Prince Charming had Diana Dors in the video from what I can remember also too. Their other number one hit Stand and Deliver before it the video I think was filmed at the time at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire by Mike Mansfield. Well done of course!!

I always felt that the gauzy soft-focus (and armor-plated knight outfit) were an homage to John Boorman's Excalibur released in 1981, the same year as the Prince Charming album and this Ant Rap single - great, groundbreaking "rap" track an signature campy music video - complete with a cute cameo by Lulu - they really don't make 'em like this anymore!

RE Live Aid Adam was invited to take part including it's launch from Wembley stadium but after using him for publicity to get it started Geldof kicked him off favouring his boring Red Wedge supporting artists instead, Adams manager freaked at geldof threatening to cancel Sting/The Police and other acts if Ant wasn't reinstated but only got to do one song which damaged his image making him seem like a mere fading support act instead which was a load of crap. Adam's the real winner in the end his artistic integrity intact and he doesn't even encourage taking any political side anyway, he just doesn't want anarchists hijacking the pop art scene to peddle their unwanted division and frankly crap songs anyway.

bruce lee was a b -side on "room at the top" .The B-side to the single is called "Bruce Lee", an obvious homage to the late martial artist (Adam impersonates Bruce Lee in the "Ant Rap" music video). Both songs appear on both sides of the cassette single. When Manners & Physique was reissued on Cherry Red Records in 2009, "Bruce Lee" was one of five bonus tracks added. US remix, 7" edit of 12" and house vocal versions of "Room at the Top" were also added.[7]
