Lily is one of the nicest players, and it’s not easy to be that nice and a professional player; emotionally it is almost conflicting, and yet she manages it. This is something not many athletes can do and mentally draining, she is simply amazing! Great game, and awesome video, thanks Adam. perhaps the greatest athletic display I've ever seen on the internet, and that is saying a lot. Every athletic performance ois a combination of power, skill, and psychology, definitely *not* in that particular order. In ping pong, power is very important, but completely subordinate to the other two. The mental and fine motor control here is so staggering that it boggles the mind to watch. Lily coming back (or, I guess, surviving) from several match points by hitting with such velocity to just a few millimeters' margin of error is just unbelievable. Both are incredible. Yes, I was rooting for her to win, based on the tenacity and psychological control added to the skill level on which they were both pretty comparable. Painful to see her fight so hard and not prevail; but kudos to both, who are truly amazing.

I really like this video, because it goes to show how truly technical the game of table tennis is. While in Tennis a similar match-up would be almost even, in table tennis a player with sheer skill can't simply be beaten by overpowering him with faster reaction times and more physical strength. This goes a long way to show how skillful this world class player is and how important this is for a game like this

He is obviously significantly stronger, but i kinda doubt that he has faster reaction times. I don't know too much about pro table tennis, but in martial arts/combat sports have even male low lvl pros usually no faster reaction times than world class female pros and semi let alone non-pros definitely not.

@@gunchar06 On average Males have much better reaction times. But even then this world class athletes push the boundaries and prove whay you can donwith enough training. It's not only reaction speed a world class athlete in any sport has tk alsk refine their muscle memory and the accuracy of their mechanical reflexes. Which is exactly why I really like this video. Table tennis isn't just a conpetition of reaction times. Obviously, it does matter, that's why there are seperate categories. But it does go a long way to show how much she has refined her technical and mechanical skill. Unfortunately, not all sports, have such dedicated athletes such as her. If only more female athletes were like her maybe we would see actual competitive matches. The popularity of female sports will never improve unless we see more women trying to hone their abilities to the absolute limit like her. Nobody wants to see a match where the athletes lack basic mechanical skill due to lack of effort and training.

And what you claim here about biological reaction times is flat out wrong even without the martial arts/combat sports context(and i've sparred with more than enough male semi-pros and at least some male and female pros, there is no way in hell that the male semi pros had faster reaction times than female world class pros considering that the best semi-pros had at best around on par reaction times with the relatively low lvl female pros i've sparred with, and this here is no flex cause i as a male non pro had lower reaction times than virtually all pros regardless if male or female i've ever sparred with) the actual reaction times difference between average people and world class athletes is very notable(hell the reaction times difference between me and our beginners without very special sports background is already notable, and mine had also definitely improved over the years due to training), cause you're definitely not pretty much born with your reaction times. Hell i have now just shortly looked into it again, and this here are the peak reaction times(which you obviously most often find in world class athletes): males 109 milliseconds and females 121 milliseconds, in contrast to: The median reaction time is 273 milliseconds. The average reaction time is 284 milliseconds. Aka it seems extremely unlikely that a guy who isn't even a pro has faster reaction times than a female world class pro(except pro table-tennis players have very unimpressive reaction times for some reason?) , let alone much faster reaction times(hell that would make the guy in the video logically a peak human in terms of reaction times, and i highly doubt that). So you're pretty much saying that in table tennis male amateurs have relatively comparable reaction times with male world class pros? And most certainly her reaction times, except i just understand the basic concept of table tennis very wrong. Okay this is the first point i can kinda agree with, it indeed seems like the lvl in many female sports is unneccessary low, especially soccer for example, but then again this is probably also a lot more complex than just lack of effort and training(which also probably leads into more general problems) considering that chess shows what a huge difference a significantly smaller talent-pool + different socialization pretty much on their own can already make(especially Judit Polgar shows that).

@@gunchar06 I see thanks for the information. It seems like there are common misconceptions on this matter. I had heard many times that reaction speeds are entirely based on genetics and are pretty much fixed. I mistakenly thought that the players with better reaction speeds are the ones that compete in world class level. I thought it was a requirement not a result, which kead me to misinterpet the average reaction speeds between females and males as solelely genetic. I will appropriately edit my comment, so make sure to reply if I got anything else wrong. The talent pool being pretty small is definitely a problem and there are definitely more factors at play. But I do feel that in some sports there is some complecancy to not strive for greater performance from some athletes.

That was awesome! Back in my teens and 20's (late 70's and early 80's), I used to play table tennis with my brother in law. We bought some books and thought we were pretty good. At Rutgers grad school in 85 or 86, when I was about 22, I played a guy in the rec room. He was setting me up for smash after smash, and I couldn't put it away, no matter how hard I hit it. Turned out he was on the team. I learned I wasn't that good.
