Originally, I recall reading that Bruce Lee studied southern mantis and maybe Yang style taiji quan from Fook Yeung. Jesse Glover, would later say in another book that Lee also studied red boat wing chun, perhaps from another person. Whether he actually studied red boat wing chun or not does not matter. He still continued to practice, once he became an adult, what he had learned at Ip Man's school as an adolescent. It seemed like Lee would make tremendous progress in a certain area or skill set, after either training under or with someone. While the other individual would pretty much remain the same.

I came across a title that had Fook Yeung's name along with red boat wing chun in the title. Lee very well could have learned some of this art from Fook Yeung as well

people do ask a lot of outrageous questions about bruce lee wing chun, when some westerners try to change or add variations to wing chun all the time. Bruce knew wing chun the created his own style and yes it has wing chun elements in it and many others styles. A true master. Rip Sigong Bruce Lee

I think BL wasn´t just very good in WC(trapping)he also transcended it,mixing it with other styles(like PMA)and improvised (like all masters can)and later in his JKD went more and more away from trapping as Mr.Chang demonstrates here! This is what TOMMY CARUSHER (lerned from J.Glover and Ted Wong)points out all the time ,the"late BRUCE LEE"was more "(western)fencing &boxing with hands and legs",why trapping ,when you can end the fight FAST AND DIRECTLY ...?!!!

I believe it was Dan Inosanto, who incorporated the Filipino martial arts into jkd (concepts), not Lee.

The problem is that you will execute the way you TRAIN. So shouldn't all drills be done in an applicable way? If you just want a general understanding of it read a book. But any responsible sifu would tell you to train the way something should be executed otherwise incorrect training will lead to incorrect application. Do you think boxers are throwing 1000's of punches incorrectly in the gym? Judo guys? kick boxers? etc? The notion is really rediculous if you think about it. Bruce lees wing chun was phenomenal because he trained the SAME way he executed. The boy ran with a gang in his youth and was always testing out his moves in real life situations even when older. Why would he do 1000's of repetitions of any move to apply it differently in the moment in real life situations ?? It makes no sense.
@nuddlegg Жыл бұрын
@@jamijordan1009 I totally agree! But thats not the point. The point is that Pak Sau drill is more of a rope skipping thing rather than a boxing combination. Hence it is quite pointless to discard it based on the fact that there are countermeasures when people apply this kind of movement to real world fighting. You wouldnt do that with rope skipping either no matter how serious of a rope skipper you are.

@@jamijordan1009 if you haven’t been in real street fights this is gonna stress you out beyond belief. Drills are no different than practicing throwing a baseball, or catching a frisbee. Sensitivity to move when the brain senses motion, pressure. A drill is a mode of attack. I think most self defense and fighters are way off. A street fight can mean ALL DONE. Look at what I do to that bag? I don’t need a partner to ALLOW ME to use a technique. No.. I can CREATE the hit I want with other actions. Here’s a few key components to WING CHUN that might help. And no.. drilling like a live fight won’t work because they’ll wind up struggling instead of detail. 1. pick a long distance. The triangle. Short distance POWER AND ATTACK. Long distance DEFENSE. 2. PICK 3 doors to open our house up. 3 blocks or defensive deflections. 3. SHIFT EACH ACTION 4. HAVE 4-5 actions against his 1-2. 5. MAKE SURE THE HITS are accurate above all DEEP IMPACTS that penetrate the spine. 😎🤙🏿

@@JKDVIPER To be fair I think teahers and lineages are at fault for a lot of misconceptions in martial arts and definitely wing chun training. some things are taught in one linieage that are completely wrong in others. IF you trained wing chun under a sifu who only had one lineage on his resume. Good luck. If you were fortunate enough to have a Wing chun teacher who had multiple Wing Chun lineages under his belt you have the benefit of him pointing out the flaws and getting more depth. But that is rare. You train the technique or drill to gain an attribute of speed and timing, accuracy, etc for real fight. then you execute it in the most realistic sparing as possible BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO SPARE TO LEARN. Then you test it out IN REAL FIGHT. If your just doing a drill and thats all I can see why you would think that. But Sparing is as close as training for real combat as many will get. And THATS the point of sparing. But training for real situations I think was the whole point of this video if you see how he corrects this guys pac sao drill. Incorrect drill practicing can """""definitely"""" affect the finished product ESPECIALLY IF THATS ALL YOUR DOING. Furthermore, martial arts training was way more effective in the old days than now. Plus laws. In china you see people going full contact wing chun. You don't see that crap in america anywhere. Back in those days people use to fight and walk away no problem. So, bruce had no prolem getting plenty of realistic training even in the states. Not anymore. Gun culture killed all that. And underground fighting here is still illegal. Its so bad people are actually ON THE INTERNET TRAINING.. (whipping my tears away). Realism has all but left the martial arts world in american culture. The closest thing we have to it is ufc which wing chun is excluded from due to its inherent dirty fighting nature.
