Dude, i just had to comment on this video. I have watched Pixel Pete and Mort mort for a longer time now and after this video i came to a conclusion. Pete and mort have probably learned pixel art by themselfs. You tho learned it thrue university, whole different approach and a psychologic aspect to it. I subscribed! Cheers! And liked ofcourse...now Lets hope that KZbin will tell you all about it soon.

Would it be a good idea to make a full 8 point turnaround for a pixel art sprite to use in platformer? Would it let you make animation work faster because you have a complete idea of what your character looks like or would it be too much effort? I am currently doing a turnaround for a pixel character because I like to practice but I don't know if it would be useful if I made a game about the character.

In my opinion I think it would be useful because well if you don’t end up using it you have that practice, but if you do use it, it’s possible to reference back to it for cutscenes where you may see the characters back or full frontal view if that makes sense. I don’t think you can ever put too much effort in your practicing!

the parts i have a hard time with are connecting the body parts to the torso

A trick that a lot of animators use is having something separating parts that are animated separately. You’ll notice a lot of characters have a distinct shirt collar or necklace or a bow tie to separate the head and like on the character that he’s drawing backpack straps separate the arms from the body.
