How does it happen though?

Motolyfe I'm sure someone else can explain it better, but basically with a turbocharged engine it keeps air and fuel in the exhaust. Then, when the fuel ignites from the heat the hot air flows through the turbo so there is boost even when you aren't revving/accelerating. That way there is no "boost lag" and you have constant boost from the turbo. Also, when the fuel ignites that's what causes the flames. I probably got a lot of stuff wrong or missed some stuff so feel to correct me anybody but that's basically how it works.
