a lot of "lying tells" are better described as tells that the person is afraid that they won't be believed. sometimes that means they're lying, sometimes that means they're just scared you won't believe them even though they're telling the truth. being able to distinguish between those two based on context is crucial.
@liesbeneathoureyes Жыл бұрын
Yep, this is exactly (part of) the reason why polygraphs are completely bogus and unreliable. They only measure physiological stress responses which CAN BE indicative of fear, and then the polygrapher assumes the fear response is an indication the person is lying. There are many reasons a person might be fearful, plus the same autonomic nervous responses that occur when a person is fearful can also occur alongside anger, excitement, surprise etc. A lot of the same logic translates across to body language analysis. It’s very unreliable.

@@liesbeneathoureyes yeah, polygraphs are beyond bogus and i HATE that they're required for some jobs and can be admissible in court. like, what the actual fuck. they're full-on pseudoscience, and they're about as reliable as astrology: in both, the results can mean whatever the hell you want them to mean because they're incredibly vague.

This specific channel does not actually demonize neurodivergence at all. He has specifically said that he does like to know if a person is neurodivergent before he attempts to read their body language because he absolutely does take into account that they might have different baseline body language than someone who is neurotypical. If your baseline is avoiding eye contact and then he won't take into account when the person is avoiding eye contact while talking. Yo, let’s not forget Josh here. He might have done regrettable things (or not, too much disinformation) but he was the main target of the Johnny Gossip Train. He got shamed for not leaving an abusive relationship sooner by Johnny, called Josh a groomer, a predator and a pedophile when not even Adam and the others talked about Colleen that way. He was put in the same boat as Colleen, Kory and Trent when we have zero evidence that he is like those people. He also got massively gaslight and ridiculed by Colleen’s own audience while struggling with his divorce and alcoholism but still managed to try and make amends with Collen’s fans he felt he had wronged like Adam and Johnny privately and publicly. He wasn’t a kid like Swoop, Adam, Becky and Oliver were when they were abused but as a victim of DV, he is also valid and worth mentioning.

As a psychology buff, 100%, it's pseudoscience. At best you can pick up on typical and atypical behaviours in a persons personal behaviourisms. Maybe you can draw some conclusions on some related emotions with context and such, but it's not a hard science at all. You can see how Observe only 'observed' around 2 facial expressions, outside of that he just picks apart language. Maybe it's because this case is so big and everyone's seen so much, he can't afford to make a mistake about the persons emotions or intent like he could with other cases, so he's more nervous about bothering.

I love how Observe noticed this common thing about Johnny inflating his place in many social situations and thinking he deserves more then others which annoyed me about Johnny personally. Johnny rubbed me the wrong way from the start. When pressed about specifics he avoided details when it mattered (like when asked how Josh "groomed" him), but put too many details when he wanted to deflect from a question to overload and distract the person who asked the question. Also, when pressed about how he was "groomed" he was oddly happy to talk about it thought what he said was word salad. I noticed the smiles, head tilts, and happy tones of voice at the wrong times. Some people have nervous ticks but Johnny was not nervous he was full of himself. He acted and spoke in such a way victims never do, especially the victim blaming. I also noticed his stories mimicked yours too closely every time you had to address another part of your story Adam. Anyway I am glad this has all come to light. Love your channel! Take care, god bless, and stay strong

I love how Observed always makes sure to establish the baseline of the person he's observing, and people need to understand if you've never seen his videos, he never acts ablist of people who may be neurodivergent. He always acknowledges that. Normally he does this with people he's never seen before, but the reason he didn't here may be because he's done an observed on them before.

Something I didn’t pick up on the first time I watched this video because Observe mentioned it so casually… Observe believes that Johnny’s word choice showed that he lacks an understanding of abuse situations… If Johnny had ever been abused by these people (cause let’s be clear, the things he’s alleging are forms of emotional and mental abuse) then wouldn’t be at least have a base level of understanding of what Josh might be going through? Like obviously I am not where you all are - I was not abused in this specific way by these specific people - but I know what abuse feels like… and therefore can empathize with you and wouldn’t wish what you’re going through and have gone through on my worst enemy. And yet Johnny can say with a straight face that he doesn’t care that Josh is also a victim? I’m gonna just say it - I don’t think Johnny was ever abused in any way by any of these people. That or he’s a psychopath. Cause I can’t think of a single rational human being who’s known ANY kind of abuse who would actually say they don’t care that someone else was abused too.

Behavior analysis definitely isn’t foolproof, because you’re right, everyone is different. Some people, like myself, are naturally fidgety and overexplain/speak fast and that doesn’t mean we are being deceptive. That’s why it seems Observe really likes to try to get a baseline for what a person’s mannerisms are during relaxed moments. It seems to me that it’s not necessarily the behavior itself that indicates potential deception, but behavior CHANGING from the person’s norm behavior that indicates the possible deception.

I always rewatch this and I just wanna make this point, it pisses me off so much when people accuse Adam of watching videos before reacting to them, like yeah ofc he can predict what they're going to say, he professionally reacts to content, dissects people, and HE WAS GROOMED BY A CELEBRITY, he knows what he's talking about, things like predictions and reading body language probably come easy to him because it's such a crucial part of his job
@allthatjazzreacts10 ай бұрын
So basically... Johnny is accusing Josh of everything HE himself is doing or has done, allegedly, (in a round about kinda way) and his "end goal" aka: attention. He deflects a LOT in his interview. It rubbed me the wrong way even before I watched the next sections of the doc. Swoop asks him, gives him multiple chances and SO MANY occasions to answer questions and he just doesn’t answer, he's like 'well this other thing happened' and Swoop is like, 'Ok, ima try again' and he does the exact same thing when she asks again! Seems kinda like Observe's observation (lol) is that Johnny wants attention and fame by being the victim. The interview is the polar opposite of Josh's interview with Swoop. So telling...
@trippingthewasteland Жыл бұрын
You’re 100% correct about body language. First, to have any real ability to assess someone, you need a baseline, because people have individual quirks and cultural differences (and neurodivergent people may have a very different baseline). That’s why the first part of a police interview involves asking easy questions like “where did you grow up/go to school/work/etc? You see how people answer easy questions truthfully and that allows you to compare their behavior when they are asked the probing questions about the crime. Even then, it can be easy for people to misinterpret what they are seeing. (Detectives sometimes get very little training, if any, in interrogations and it’s another reason why you should always avoid speaking to the police without a lawyer.) Second, you have to look at clusters of behaviors that deviate from baseline, not individual items. So you might have poor eye contact, but if that’s the only deviation, it’s probably not indicative of anything. And finally, you can’t really detect “deception” you can only detect discomfort and anxiety. A psychopath who doesn’t feel guilt or fear about lying might not display any deviations in behavior. A person who is clinically delusional would also probably not display any deviation because they actually believe what they are saying is true.
@mirrorocean Жыл бұрын
I appreciate your being critical of body language commentary in general. It can definitely be interesting, and perhaps sometimes useful, but when overused it can flag false positives for lying and other suspicious behaviours particularly in neurodivergent people who just don't emote the same way neurotypicals do.
@SinfulSloth Жыл бұрын
so much agreement about common 'lying' tells not being true about everyone. I'm autistic so I struggle with eye contact and I smile during uncomfortable/ inappropriate situations. Strangely enough I can look at a person's eyes while on zoom, I don't look at the camera because I have a phobia of it, kinda funny given my therapy is done through zoom. Your opinions of Johnny's tells is hilarious, you have a way to see through the bullshit so well and disarm them. If people watch this video, and then see anything Johnny says, it'll be instantly easy to dismiss him, rather than feeling ick because he seems unpredictable and malicious. It's like the ukulele thing, after watching your response it lessened how triggering it was for me.

I kind of wonder if Johnny recalling the story of him bullying Adam he was actually thinking of other kids he actually bullied
@lindseycassella3015 Жыл бұрын
I wondered this too. It's a weird thing to lie about but it makes sense if he's using Adam's name instead because he's well known instead of unknown random kid. Also he probably thinks it makes him more sympathetic. It's a manipulation tactic to Swoop and the audience. He did something similar with Becky in the H3 podcast when he spoke about being there the night when Becky was on stage. Regardless if it's true or not he used the opportunity to capitalize on the moment and was speaking for victims that were gaining more sympathy because we (the audience) saw their sincerity.

Johnny disgusts me lying about grooming then blame someone who already had dealt with his ex wife bs and all her friends
@Nyx_ofthenight Жыл бұрын
This is a totally speculative theory that I can't verify, but I feel like attention is only one reason Johnny did all this. Besides the audacity of it all, lying about allegations for fame is a HUGE personal risk. I think there might've been a secondary reason, that occurred to me during the part about Trisha. Could he have tried to claim he was groomed to preemptively deflect blame from himself should everything he said come to light? He couldn't be held responsible for harassing Trisha and all these other things if it was Colleen or Josh who'd goaded him into it, right? But instead it backfired. What he said and did was wrong and no one forced him to do it, so it just served to platform his own mistakes. And add more to them.
@BlessTheWriter Жыл бұрын
I think this is absolutely the reason, except not because of the Trisha stuff, but because of the minors he himself was inappropriate with who he had access to through Colleen and when this all came up again and was being taken seriously this time he wanted to look like he was on the right side of history!

Something to consider about behavioral analysis is that no single 1 behavior indicates dishonesty. Its when there is a spike of clusters of behavior that an behavioral analyst can look at that can indicate dishonesty. Its not like movies - no 1 behavior indicates that someone is lying.
