Yeah, I also liked the independence between the drums and bass in that one. It's important to keep in mind that a lot of Adam's opinions are just that, his personal preferences for things might be done. That doesn't mean they aren't extremely valuable information from a seasoned music veteran but they aren't "right," the bass line was perfectly fine the way it was if they want to keep playing it that way.

"I can hear you thinking while you're playing". Yep. That's a thing I'd like to say to A LOT of players. Not specifically to Augusto - who seems to me just a little over cautious - but to many, many kids who focus on the number and speed and precision of the notes they deliver, instead of creating a soundscape. Music is not a sport.

As a talentless hack I am so surprised at Adam's casual deconstruction of Erin Snape's song. It makes me wonder whether what Erin composed are all technically deliberate or are just what her talented self deems musically pleasing. It feels like a daunting idea to me to actually think about every single musical theory when composing a song. I'm probably rambling here but I wonder how much good music is just made because 'it sounds nice' and all of the amazing analysis on the underlying musical theory are just descriptive, as opposed to prescriptive, if this makes sense. Jesus.

Hello, hi, good day. I literally watched what he said and thought 'what the hell is that', and 'I didn't know that was mixolydian' - so yeah? The only time I think about theory is when I need to do a key change, or if something in the chord progression/harmony just isn't working.

@@ErinSnape oh my it's the Erin Snape herself! Thank you for chiming in. That is somewhat relieving to hear - for no other reason than knowing that musical piece of art are probably more organic than carefully planned (although I'm by no means implying that composers adhering to specific concepts of theories while composing is talentless!). Anyway keep up the good work! Very inspiring!

Hi Adam, I am been learning music for only a few years and i really like your channel great work really! I am still a noob but a have a question/remark on the comment you made on the @4:30 mark about that long note that doesn't fit the shorter notes. Isn't that long note giving her groove some space to breath, like what you suggested for the drum beat in the same piece, when you said try not playing at all. I find that it sounds quite nice, it contrasts the rest of the piece that is very dense and it does sound to me like a"melodic" rest. I guess what i am asking is: isnt it nice to have that long note there just to give some contrast and breathing space to the piece and space things out a bit?
