Hey Gang!
I want everything in my new home studio to sound better.
(I podcast, make guitar videos, teach guitar and occasionally do mixes.)
What do I mean by better?
I'd like to have:
► Less echo on my voice
► Less early reflection echo on guitar
► A decent environment to mix in
I ended up going for a pricier option, Room Kit # 4 form GIK Acoutsics:

Sounds waaaayyyy better. Also though.. I heard it’s good to have some of the room and that you don’t want a completely dead room. I don’t know how true this is but your room sounds perfect to me. You really cut out a huge difference and I can tell even from watching on my phone!

Thanks. It's even better if I am recording to put the panels around me and yes - you don't want ii totally dead. It you've ever played guitar in a totally carpeted room, you'll notice it kills the hi's. These materials are designed by their geeks to absorb the RIGHT frequencies. Thanks for watching!

Drapes are coming and some art for sure; no furniture though I want space in the studio 😀

Great! Very interesting informations and I prefer the sound after installation. You have no disturbing influences on the sound. I find this important for the subsequent sound processing. I record in my living room (very unprofessional) but furniture and carpets etc. reduce unwanted effects. In your room with lots of bare walls, you naturally have a bigger sound problem. John Horne hey John! Yeah, the big difference is actually on talking and will be on mixing. Guitar into a mic is not quite as problematic....hope you are good!

GIK makes really beautiful product. if you want your space to look very professional, it may be worth the investment to you. that said, DIY of these same products is 90% cheaper and very easy to do. it probably won’t look as nice, but it may enable you to add sufficient treatment to really tame that flutter echo. if you’re going to do vocal recording, compression really brings that room noise up, so in my space i’d want at least 50% treatment coverage, which would cost thousands unless you DIY it.

Andrew drapes will come but actually the font do that much according to the experts! The panels will do more than the drapes, I just found that out!

Adam, great, I would add curtains on glass door and windows, heavy material...drapery style ,corduroy, or similar material....on wall, empy would add books shelf, or some paintings, from garage.....I wish you all the best

Really clever setup. I never thought of putting the panels on stands like that. Really good idea if you're renting. Did GIK provide the stands? I've got a pair of their bass traps and they've helped my room a ton. Your room sounds much better. Looking forward to hearing more of your music.

Josh - thanks! My guitar is actually quiet enough that previous recording environemst were ok. Where the GIK stuff REALLY helps is anything with my voice (podcasts, videos) and also listening on monitors. The room tuning is far from perfect, but there's just less boom. Yes, GIK provides stands for the traps - I think they are around $40. You can get metal or wood, I opted for the metal - tehe were a tad cheaper and you can choose the height wheras the wood is a set height. Stay safe! - AR

Mido Rabe Mido I noticed on my podcasts and lesson the voice was too boomy. So voice and mixing will be fixed. The actual playing probably would not have been so bad since the maton is quiet. See you soon on SWA!!!

Why does it look like 2 different rooms in the before and after there is a door in the after, surely would have been a better test to record in the same spot in the room

Benoit Dugas too soon to say! I am going for basic flexibility in reciting and listening. It still can’t compare to pro, but for a DIY home studio it will be good enough I hope!

Your speaking voice and the clapping definitely sound better after the treatment. With the guitar, it’s much harder to say based on a few strums. Also not sure whether it would sound better if you sang. I would be curious to hear how much reverb you start adding in post for guitar parts after you have lived with this for a while. Also wonder about more “natural” wall and floor treatments. I tame some of the echoes in my house with throw rugs and tapestries. Your walls are pretty bare. You also would probably get a very noticeable change with curtains for your windows. But that all depends on what you want in the room. I checked the company website and was surprised at how little it cost.

duffypratt hey! Rugs are down on the floor but they trap a lot of highs. These panels are designed to get the right frequencies out and damp the right ones as well. With the guitar yes it’s harder but that yucky fast reverb is still there 😀 Curtains alone would dull things but not really stop reflections, I have done that in the past. Like anything, the more you look, the more you see that other folks have really dug into solutions pretty deeply...

It's night and day difference. Before the treatment it was, if I dare say, awful.

No, not really, it deals with reflection, not isolation. Youll need thicker walls.
