I walked thru that tunnel many times back in the 60's and 70's. The tunnel , at the time did not go across the road but actually went thru that hill and out the other side about 1/8 th of a mile (or less) and ran parallel with the paved road in a straight line from where the entrance was and the tunnel was level . The top tunnel probably fed another bottom tunnel that went across the road to where you guys ran into your bee hives.

Adam, if you had your own tv channel, I'd watch it instead of anything else. You give more history about a place you're filming in 10-15 or less than the History Channel does in a week.

You can go in it. It's safe. If you're a bit claustrophobic, it's not a good idea (obviously). Get in through the sliver at 2:34. You'll be able to walk upright after a few feet in. Walk the length of the tunnel and pull yourself out at the other end. You'll find that you traveled much further than you thought, under a few small mountains and the highway. Keep moving forward after you get out and find the dirt road. Walk the dirt road left to get back to the highway. Park somewhere and hike to the tunnel's entrance as you will not be able to park near its opening. This is a good thing. You don't want to draw attention to yourself now, do you?

Interesting. For a few years, I lived in one of the mobile homes just southeast of the intersection of Redlands Blvd. and San Timoteo Canyon Road. This area was my playground, and I explored a lot of it. I've been to the basin, but hadn't seen the upper end of that tunnel. There IS another tunnel that I found, though. Not as elaborate, not lined, no concrete or brick structure, and I went a few hundred feet into it on my hands and knees, couldn't see any light at the other end. It's not easy to find, either. I found it while chasing my three wheeler ATV down the side of a hill after falling off. Now that there's such a thing as the internet, I did manage to pinpoint the coordinates on Google Earth.

Okay, no one is saying something, so I gotta. Sugar sand is sand so fine it acts like sugar does, not compacting any unless wet. So basically it's harder to drive on because it's harder to control. I don't know if it's a regional thing, but I'm in central Florida and its a common term. I traveled 30 minutes each way multiple times a day through roads of it for a decent bit of my life, it's hell but it sure is fun when you get used to it. Basically, find the ruts and ride em. Awesome video Adam, love seeing stuff from you! Stay safe out there.

Great video Adam! I loved the part when you referred to the soft sand in the road as sugar sand and Justin had a kinda confused look and asked what is sugar sand. Me and my wife laughed at that part, me being from Central Florida and her being from South California we have a similar dynamic when it comes to the different terminology from what we refer to stuff due to where we are from. My wife living here for over 10 years now laughed and said that sugar sand was a Florida thing. Once again, great video.

Bravo to you and Justin. This was a very cool historical look into something that was an integral part of the development of the area. The photo of the laborers that built the tunnel was indicitive of the importance and pride they had upon completion of the tunnel. I don't know how I can explain how "gripping" this vlog was but it is something that a teacher could show a class regarding the historic importance of urban development. I do believe that you and Justin have great chemistry...many funny catch phrases throughout, love it!

Cool to see Adam in my former back yard (used to live in NW Moreno Valley). There are actually legitimate caves not far from the location in this video. I believe it's called Kalmia Hills in Google Maps, but you go North on Moreno Beach Drive off the 60 frwy until it ends, turn left (turns into Reche Canyon Rd) and about a 1/2 mile or so there are 2 or 3 caves in the side of the hills. I've been in them about 25-30 years ago, but they are about 4' high and they went pretty deep into the side of the hill - 40'+ maybe. Found these pics: www.panoramio.com/photo/3552477 and www.panoramio.com/photo/3552438

A toy store RC truck will have a very limited range, you would have to get a hobby store type 4 wheeler. It would be better to find a Woo friend that has one and let then control it for you. The big problem would be unless you have a live video feed from the truck like the Drones are using then you will not be able to control where the truck goes. Even if the tunnel is straight the truck will get off center and will need to be corrected so a live video feed is required.
