This week I am running my HIGHEST MILEAGE EVER. It is peak week for marathon trianing. I am only 3 weeks away from the Mckirdy Marathon in New York City. Join me in flagstaff where I try and train to run the US olympic trials mark.

This was really helpful! Seeing that each run is normally 60-90 mins is key! I'm running 11 min/mile easy runs and have been thinking I needed several hours a day to achieve "elite mileage".

What would be your advice be to a high school distance runner looking to make huge improvements in cross country and track?
@qiyo2812
@qiyo2812 Жыл бұрын
What’s helped me improve almost 2 minutes in a little over a month is to train hard and I don’t take any rest days. 2 minutes is a lot cause I just started this year and I went from 20 min to 18 min. Really give all you have on hard days and try and incorporate hills into your workouts
@jonahmays
@jonahmays Жыл бұрын
I’m not a professional but as a younger hs athlete trying to improve; 1.) recover correctly 2.) get a training partner/team 3.) control the controllables (hydration, sleep, nutrition, etc)
@Jakobos123
@Jakobos123 Жыл бұрын
@@qiyo2812 I'm unsure about this advice. No rest days may be a viable option once you have gotten your body to a fitness level that can absorb daily training - that being said, this will not apply to everyone and even the best of the best take a day off once in a while. Be confident, push hard, there's likely a lot of low hanging fruit to grab and you will improve with no time. But patience is key in running. People don't often fall short in their plans because they trained too little, but rather because they got impatient and got injured. Be flexible and listen in with your physique, develop the skill to know best what your body needs/can handle. Good luck!
@mr.t1417

taking no rest days is horrible advice, just because you didn't get injured doing so doesn't mean someone else won't aswell thats like an injury speedrun for most people@@qiyo2812

Biggest things that most highschoolers struggle with is 1a) consistent 8+ hours sleep pretty much every night (the toughest but most rewarding) 1b) Eat/Hydrate well throughout the day probably more than you are doing right now 2) base building easy mileage over the summers and in between XC/track seasons 3) run your easy runs VERY easy (easier than you probably are running them right now) so that you are rested for your workouts to be run hard

Let’s go can’t wait until you race! I run cross country and I’m going to do outdoor, but I live in a cold state with not the best training weather. How would you recommend I stay fit?
@randomtactician6290
@randomtactician6290 11 ай бұрын
Count your blessings bro. It's 90 degrees with 80-90% humidity where I live in the summer but we make it work. Now that it's getting into the 50s and 60s it's better, but sometimes you just have to deal with bad conditions. In the winter it's a huge range though, 10 degree days and snowstorms aren't super rare, but I also once sat outside on Christmas in a short-sleeve shirt (it was 65 degrees), but we make it work. Short answer is move your ass somewhere else or get used to it lmfao.
