This is so true and straightforward. I’ve just started these workouts but as a full-time wheelie with MS I have a lost a lot of weight and sizes in the last eighteen months. Through a calorie deficit healthy diet taking a day at a time focussing on healthy food. Now looking at maintaining my loss and the ability I do have. This is so pertinent to me. Thank you.

Thanks for this good video. I would like to know your opinion (and the opinion of the science) on the pros or cons of wearing an abdominal band when you are a quad (c5). It’s good against low pressure and it keeps us more stable, but do we get more lazy because we do not work our core by ourself? What’s better? To wear one or not?

It's a tricky one because in one case yes they work especially with blood pressure and stability and quite well combined with a strengthening routine you can probably get good results. My issue was always with pressure sores though which wasn't worth the trade off

Those ab muscle stim belts will help with the para belly. Also a compression under shirt helps
@AdaptToPerform
@AdaptToPerform Ай бұрын
The issue with the stick belts is that although they do work in terms of contracting the muscles they can't get deep enough to reach the transverse abdominus to contract it as they lay underneath the rectus abdominus and the obliques. A binder would work but the issue is then an issue with your skin

I would strongly recommend watching Prof Bart Kay explaining what a calorie is and why they are not relevant. I reduced carbs to zero and ate beef and dripping only. My 'calorie' count shot up as fat is nutrient dense. I came off my blood pressure medication, skin conditions went away, energy went up and I lost 4 stone without once going hungry. I ate whenever I felt like it. My mobility is very poor, I can't stand for longer than 3 or 4 minutes. I have no discipline when it comes to exercise, though I am thoroughly inspired by your content. Ken Berry MD, Dr Anthony Chaffee, Dr Kiltz, Dr Chris Palmer, Dr Paul Mason, Dr Shawn Baker, there are lots of Dr's and scientists online talking about this. Better still read the thousands of comments on their videos of how people are turning their lives around. Calories are a con, as is the cholesterol debacle. Sorry I must sound like a crank but once you've seen it, you can't unsee it.

Cutting out carbs completely is not sustainable for most people. You need a certain amount of carbs. I’m glad it’s working for you!

A couple of things to note. Calories are just a unit of measurement. To say they are a con is saying that a millimetre is too. What you're talking about here is health outcomes of a healthy diet (I'll come back to this) my video is purely about weight loss which according to research is the single greatest thing you can do to improve your health. The studies suggested in those videos are only related to certain types of cancer and have no effect on others. So yes it works for some but not others plus we don't have enough data to make it a suggestion for people without cancer or have any substantial long term effects. The advice for someone who's sick/has a condition and someone who's not isn't the same (take diabetes for an example) The same outcomes in these have been shown from a diet that also reduces meat intake and increases fibre intake instead. Which overall suggests that it's more about what food you've replaced with your new diet rather than the new diet itself being the cause. I can show you so many videos about so many different diets with everyone claiming this is the one that works but in terms of weight loss you can't escape the calories in v calories out which is what most people have done just different ways of getting there. And to anyone reading through this comment just a note, this is all way to much information to get bogged down on. For those of you just looking to lose weight the information in the video is enough to get you started.

@alanbuckley8116 There is no requirement for exogenous carbohydrate. Our body makes what it needs. During exercise too, as it needs it. It's called gluconeogenesis. We have insulin clearing glucose out of our blood because our body doesn't want it, it is toxic to our cells. That is also why the randal cycle locks our cells closed to stop too much of it getting in because if it doesn't our cells will sustain damage. This is how the weight loss jabs work by forcing the cells to accept more glucose, and that is why they are a terrible idea too. This is all well documented but diabetes is big business for pharma so it doesn't get talked about, and the food industry obviously do well out of misinformation in the 'nutrition" world. It's a lot I know but I only mention these things because industries won't and the NHS are in pharma's pocket. There is a lot more to say but I'll leave it there. You only have to read the comments from people who have changed their eating to see what the effects are. It's annoying that we haven't been told about this already.

@@rubyhart7935 thank you for your input! That is a very interesting theory. What works for one person, may not work for another. I am glad that it worked for you! I wish you better health in the future…

@@alanbuckley8116 It's not a theory it is the mechanics by which the human body operates. But yes, it's really bloody hard to kick the carbs due to the addiction effect in the brain, that element is difficult to sustain before it fades away.

There's a lot more I can add to the video but as I mentioned this would be super long and complicated but I recommend moving as much as possible. And not just exercise but fidgeting etc too. Get the calories reduced and you'll be on the right path. Unfortunately there's no short cut but at least it's simple

Yes having less weight is much more than looks. But without sounding harsh (this is out of kindness) please don't use your disability as an excuse for having a boring life. There's so many people with a wide arrange of abilities leading so many interesting lives that are all so different from each other. I recommend starting with finding something with a purpose that helps people other than yourself. It's the single greatest thing I did to put me on the right track

Not correct, energy in energy. Body adapts and uses lower energy for the same output. That’s a function to make sure we survive also in times where food is limited. For things you can move use EMS , electric therapy for muscle contraction. Not they same result also working out, but better than doing nothing.
@AdaptToPerform
@AdaptToPerform Ай бұрын
With electric stimulation it doesn't get deep enough to "shock" the transverse abdominus muscles but instead contracts the rectus abdominus and obliques. Whilst this can make a small difference it's not going to be a game changer. Yes the body can adapt but this is at the extremes of calorie reduction and only works for a limited time before the body uses what it has to survive. Not a path I suggest for anyone. A small calorie reduction has been shown to not have this effect. The only relevant adaption is that once you lose weight you need to adapt your calorie intake as now it takes less energy to operate your body so you need to potentially reduce again. Unless the goal is weight gain (through muscle) then it's a different video which is in the pipeline... I can't explain everything here in 8 mins
