my front panel power switch is broken and i was about to get a new case not knowing these exist and this is so much more convenient, glad i found this!
@J0ermungand2 жыл бұрын
Cute switch. But you don't actually have to check the polarity for mechanical switches. It's just like touching two wires together - doesn't matter which one goes where. Same with a relay btw. Could be different for an electronic switch though (idea for next video: hacking a 433MHz radio remote light switch or similar into a PC power switch) .
@MaxsTech2 жыл бұрын
True, I actually forgot about that fact, the LEDs you will need to, but as for the switches it does not matter. Good catch!
@J0ermungand2 жыл бұрын

This is gonna be a great upgrade for what I have in mind. taking my computer and sticking it in a closet with an external power switch, and Power LED being ran all the way from the closet to the L shaped Desk. that way I don't have to run from my desk to my closet and turn on my PC that way.

Great video! I have a Dell XPS that has a 5-pin connector with the power switch and power LED all integrated into that one connector. Is there a way I can still use this external power button to connect to my PC? Also, the external power button I got came with a splitter that has 4 connectors total for two power switches and two LEDs (one set for original computer case and other set for new power button). Therefore the connector that is meant to connect to the motherboard is a single, long 4-pin connector. Would this work somehow with my computer? Thanks for the help.

You might be able to connect the led's in series if you connect one pole from the base to one from the switch (you will need a metal pin for that)

I recently purchased a VWRHar Switch Splitter 1 in 2 Out, Bi-Directional Switch for my TV, but I'm not quite sure what I intended to use it for. I don't play video games, so I'm looking for other potential uses. I was hoping to connect my router to either my Wi-Fi ready TV or my Roku device to potentially save on broadband costs. However, I think I may have purchased the wrong item. I'm not very tech-savvy, so any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

@itsprivate3061 nope. It's to provide the power switch and a single light. You still need to split the power switch if you still want o control it from the pc as well as the remote button. If you wanted power LED and HDD LED you'd need 3 splitters and a remote button that had supported 2 lights.

You would need 2 of those splitters.......but your remote button would also need to support 2 lights.......the power LED and the HDD LED. It’s not perfect but you can go into your power settings and change the “closed lid” option for laptops to only turn off the screen. You can then put the PC to sleep and wake it up with a mouse or keyboard click. Unfortunately that’s the only method I could think of to keep the laptop closed.

Do you happen to have the dell xps 8930? Or 8940? Looks like it’s a prebuilt from dell that may use their own custom proprietary board and front connector. Looks to be like a single 4 pin port, you can try to follow that and see where it leads to, you may be able to find the wires where the power button plug into that cable and use that.

I have a better solution! I simply wanted to turn on my PC by remote control at home as I did not want to get up out of my chair with my yellow lab sitting on my lap. I also did not want to use a phone or app to turn it on and off so here is how I did it. I added a remote control to my Minisforum mini pc by adding a "remote control power strip". Set the Bios (hit delete button during boot up), change the setting to enable pc to start after power outage. Then simply turn the pc off normally but after pc shuts down power off the power strip. When you turn power strip back on PC boots up automatically. Simple, cheap and effective! Hope this helps everyone.
