Your teaching is so opposite than what I had been taught. I was told to throw away small brushes, and use larger brushes. But I could not get used to that method for my style of painting. Then I saw what small brushes you use and you take your time for delicate realism. I am so glad I found your videos. Love them! Thank you for sharing.

Impressionist/loose brushwork seems to be the choice of most art teachers since modern art came in. It’s ok, but just another way of painting.

Who would say to throw away small brushes? You use whatever is needed for your piece. What if your painting on a 8”x10” canvas are you gonna use a 3” brush lol?

There are many ways to achieve the same end result. Even if your technique is considered "incorrect" by some, you can keep using it as your own personal technique if you are happy with what your are getting.

yeah, whomever said throw away small brushes can suck an egg. It ALL depends on the size of your painting. If you're working on a 24 x 36 sure, use larger brushes but doing 16 x 20 you need small brushes to get the details. I'm actually working on making my own fan brush, 1/4" bristles 3/8" wide. Haven't found one commercially in the right size.

It's always good to watch an MJS video once on a while to remind myself that there's always a more realistic painter, so I don't need to stress trying to be perfect.

I wanted to learn how to paint the foliage and Deep jungle in background and searched for videos but none of the video was showing and teaching this essential art than Mr. Michael. Today I am very very happy for this great video. Many Many thanks to Mr. Michel.

Its totally mesmerising. How a plain canvas can be transformed into such a beautiful picture that is so lifelike. Totally inspirational, and you make it look much easier than I believe it is.

Fascinating! I've taken photos of different trees, shrubs, and grasses to study textures and colors. I see you have a nice photo to work from, but I'm sure you could work from memory as well to create some realistic scenes. From what I've seen so far, you strive for photo realism in all of your work.. I do the same, except I lean more towards hard, shiny objects (classic car grills, etc).
