Here is a super easy camper trick for seasoning. Use a plastic straw..cut to size. A match for just a moment will soften it up to seal up the bottom. Add your spices, and seal the top of the straw. A real space saver, and you can add everything you need for each bag!

I remember back in the 90s as a single mom I had to work late so I called my kids, 4 between 5 and 17, asked them to cook dinner. It was something I made a million times. I gave them instructions, brown hamburger and add can of mushroom soup and a can of milk, meaning the soup can measurement of milk. I got home and no one has eaten. My daughter said the only can of milk she could find was a can of sweetened condensed milk lol. The cats didn't even want it. It was a lesson for all of us.

I was homeless for a time so when I finally got on my feet these kinds of meals were a godsend. I couldn't always afford to go to a Walmart (too far), & the closest market wasn't the cheapest. I had to make the most of what was available. Energy foods like pasta, Luann coconut oil, rice, beans, & proteins like non-fat powdered milk, all were staples I could buy to make my food stamp "money" go further. I clawed & educated myself & my children out of poverty bcs my origins were different than most but it doesn't mean it was easy. Your video just brings back so many memories. The pandemic was easy for my boys & I bcs their childhood was an entire survival "episode". One more thing about the meals: you might have to heat them w/ sterno if you run out of the butane cans, so don't forget to keep some of those around as well. Easier to store too.

I was just thinking that some of these would be great to add to blessing packs to pass out to the homeless. I work near the main hospital in my city and I see so many people in need in the mornings and was planning on making blessing pack once a week, I can't do much but I do try to help when I can.

When you’re cooking in a pot bring it to a boil , put the lid on and turn off the burner and cover with a dish towel. Let sit for around 15 to 20 minutes. ( That allows your noodles to finish cooking and it will save fuel.) Then add the rest and heat a little if needed. Old school way of conserving.

Heads Up. In a grid down, I don't own those gas stoves, can't afford it. Use a metal thermos,. Heat water over small tuna can with cotton balls and 70% alcohol in the bottom. Dump macaroni in thermos, fill with hot water, cover, come back in 20 minutes. Cooked. The chili and tomatoes warm fast over the tuna can cooker too. P.S - don't put pan to boil right on can, it puts out flame. Rather, put can in tabletop grill and pan on rack, or put bricks on either side of can to rest pan on. Just - my simplistic way.

From the age of 3, I taught all my 3 boys how to cook, and being a single mom is rough, but I am so glad I did it. ☺️ the boys were able to do holiday dinners for up to 20 people at the age of 16, which was crazy. So now that they are older and all have children, they did what I did. And taught their kids the same. Cooking cleaning and laundry and such. Shopping was a big one. I always taught them to find the best deal. As we always had limited funds for food each month. But we always ate really good. Now that I'm older, I have watched a lot of your videos and took my grandchildren to the store, and we did up some of these meals they had a lot of fun doing it. Ages 6,7, 11 years old. Thank you they loved watching 👀 you. And are happy they got to help with the emergency pantry meals ❤ the kids loved how you walked them through the whole video. In all of your videos. ❤😊

Here's something I do to create my own re-hydration solution: 8 level teaspoons of sugar and 1 level teaspoon of salt added to 1 liter of water. I collect the small packs of salt and sugar from fast food restaurants and seal them in a small bags and put them in my go bag, boo bag, fishing box, etc. Any place where I might use while going out in the heat of Texas. This is a lot better than packing Gatorade bottles and cheaper than buying the re-hydration packs.

In the craft aisle, we sell small glass containers with metal screw on caps. I fill them with salt & pepper or spices and keep them in my purse for work. These would also be good to throw a small amount of extra seasonings into your bagged meals. They are washable, reusable, and the ones shaped like mini mason jars with handles are SO stinking cute. The Pace enchilada sauce is new and when I saw it on our order form, I ordered the max 12 cases...some for the store, some for my home. It's such a blessing working for DT because I get to see the new stuff coming in. I saw the Campbell's pouches on our truck paperwork for the first time last week. These are the only flavors so far. As we were unloading the truck, I had to pull out my box cutter and open the box to check them out, lol.

Great ideas! Also, if you have to ration your cooking fuel, check out a "Wonderbag" or "Cooky Bag" to use with a cast iron pot and lid. You basically use enough fuel (on your camp stove or grill burner) to bring the food to a boil, then cover and insulate. The food continues to cook without additional input. I've also made overnight oatmeal this way.

New subscriber here! Love the meal in a bag idea, but I have a small home and it would be difficult to keep bags or bins stocked. I recently was trying to think of meals that could be bought cheaply that would be no cook options because I am on disability income and eventually fuel for a butane stove will run out in a long term survival situation. Got any videos on that or could you do that as a challenge? Just a thought. One critique, though. It would be greatly appreciated if you put the recipes in the description box or in the comment section. Love this! Thank you for sharing the step-by-step. I don't think people realize how easy survival cooking can be. For seasonings, keep an eye out for Goya or Badia packets. They're grab-and-go rather than portioning out seasonings. I keep a big ol' bottle of Badia in my kitchen because I put it in everything, but I stick the packets in my camping meals and survival gear.

Another meal in a bag. 2 Knoor package of Alfredo (dried). 2 small cans white chicken drained, 1 can black beans drained, 1 can drained corn or small package of frozen corn ( cook in bag 6 minutes if Flav-R-Pac in microwave) or thaw first. Add parmesan from small plastic jar at Dollar Tree. 2 tablespoons of butter (optional). 3 cups of water. 1 cup of evaporated milk. I add pepper, paprika, garlic salt with parsley, onion powder to taste. Follow Knorr directions then add the rest after cooked. Cook in saucepan over medium heat. Stir often.

I just had your channel pop up. I already subscribed! I have serious health issues and deal with chronic pain. I have better and worse days. I love the idea of shelf stable meals that I can put together on good days and store. Then, when it’s hard to get around or concentrate, I don’t have to think about it. Just grab a bag and go. This is also a phenomenal idea to give to new moms or someone recovering from surgery. Instead of loading them down with meals already cooked and needing to be chilled, these can be saved for those days when sleep is at a premium. They can prep it when ready. And it’s easy for me also because I don’t have to use energy to cook it. Thank you. Costco sells big bottles of both taco seasoning and ranch seasoning. These would work great for prepping meals. Since you are using precooked asparagus, don’t put the asparagus in until right before topping with cheese. They will heat up from the heat in the dish.

I have doing this with Dollar Tree for some time. However I am judicious in what I get. The best of their food products are from Poland, Egypt, South Africa, Pakistan, Turkey. Greece, some Mexico things, etc. Compare the labels with American products and read the differences in food purity.

Me too! I have found some foods with NO additives, just the real food, and I focus on getting those for my pantry. But in a pinch, I'll use the regular brands. I agree, it is amazing the difference in food purity in other countries vs. here in US.

The best thing about Dollar General is the canned meat section. You can get small canned hams, Spam, Vienna sausages, potted meat, tuna, chicken, etc. at a pretty reasonable price. They sell bulk packs, too. However, I find the dried bean and rice sections a little lacking. They do offer pasta and sauce, though, and a variety of canned goods.

Save the jar cause it has a good deal on the lid it can be used for sauces ,jellies, jams pickles or pickled mix veggies. And they last for up too 10 years . Tried and true. I used the bouillon containers for storing single serving rice or beans or oatmeal. I make my own dehydrated beans and rice that way you just add the hot water and let stand lid on for 15-20 minutes and meal is ready. I also use the empty spice containers too easy for camping.

To feed my family I always have to use one and a half boxes of pasta. There’s me and my husband, an 18y/o, 17, 13, 6, and a 15 month old. Three of the kids are on growing spurts right now. But I wish I could get away with one box. Two of them will be moving out in April, so food will be able to stretch a bit more. Love the idea of bagging the meals. Even doing that for weekly meals would be great.

In an emergency it is fine to keep liquid from cans because water may be scarce. But otherwise, I always dump the chemical laden liquids from store-bought cans. We don’t need the extra toxins our livers and kidneys would have to work to get rid of. However, home canned items, preserve that precious liquid which contains vitamins and minerals from the contents.
