I love your down to earth approach. I started adding some carbs, by adding more veggies in may. I am keto for more than 7 years and was stalled to lose weight for at least 4 years. An I was even gaining weight. In may i contacted a foodcoach who made a plan for me. At the moment I lost another 14 kg! Just by adding more veggies!!

I use to say I had a “carb addiction” to justify my keto lifestyle but my issue was with ultra processed foods, I couldn’t control how much I ate. A lot of people don’t realize that’s how those foods are designed though. Food manufactures want us to buy their foods and so they add sugar and salt to mess up our hunger signals. Sal from Mindpump says “we can easily overeat potato chips, but no one can over eat a potato” and I found this to be so true!! I actually developed binge eating from depriving my body of whole food carbs. I’m now like you and incorporate whole food carbs and I no longer have the hunger and binge eating that I had on keto. I’ve been following you for a several years now and loving these open, honest and real conversations you’re having.

I think this may be the difference between “abstained” and “moderators”. People that go on a binge with a bite of carb May really have an addiction and need to stay away from all carbs. I happen to be more like you, small amounts of carbs don’t send me over a cliff and actually make me feel better. I’ve been “carnivore” for almost three years, and I’m finding adding carbs back into my diet has improved my health tremendously

I think your health today is a result of the keto journey you've been on. Keto and Carnivore are healing protocols, and you obviously have healed the issues you had, and that's wonderful! I don't see you slamming down a bunch of crap that will send you backwards. You are so lucky! I am not in that camp and probably never will be and am OK with it. I AM one of those carb addicts that have to really, really watch it. One bite of real sugar anything does put me on a binge. I am Type2 and while I am now considered just 'pre-diabetic', I can't afford to stray much into carb-land. Everyone's journey is so different. What works for one doesn't work for another. I've learned a lot from your videos and love that you've reached your health goals. ❤

I applaud you for getting to know yourself and doing what is good for your healing. That being said I know myself and I’m an addict of sugar and carbs, I do have to stay away but maybe someday I can add back but I don’t expect others around me to do what I’m doing. It has been eye opening adding a few carbs back. I feel great. With that said, I do think I needed keto level carbs for a while to straighten out my insulin resistance. I lost some weight on whole 30, then stuck. Reducing carbs more helped. Then I got stuck again. Then I needed a reverse diet. And now cutting again with a few more carbs more like whole 30. What we don't need to do is keep doing something that isn't working. Jonathan taught me that just ketoing harder and cutting more and more was not what my body needed at this time.

The ketogenic diet is a spectrum, the carnivore diet is the ultimate elimination diet used for healing. Some stay on it, some who feel better expand their diet without negative consequences. The comments that you are not controlling is their opinion and probably die hard carnivores. As a dietitian I have had problems with high insulin and blood sugars despite being a normal weight. I also have experimented with carbs, some spike my BG immediately some work well. I am not totally healed yet so I tread lightly. Being celiac I was never one to pig out on donuts🤣but when I do try a carb it is a whole food not processed, stay away from seed oils. I experiment in small amounts, you do you!

I've been doing Keto or Carnivore for YEARS with intermittent fasting. I have been very ill after a couple of rounds of needed antibiotics for a major tooth infection and then two more for the subsequent ear infections I got 2 weeks later. I've been sick since September. I strongly believe I have SIBO. I had an h. pylori test done and when they were doing the breath test, I had a major allergic? reaction to the test and they couldn't continue because I was shaking and in a rash. So, I'm following the protocols that I can do myself and going to start the yogurt along with the broccoli sprouts because I also suspect h. pylori. I support you and your decision to do what YOUR body needs. I had to start eating some healthy carbs myself just because EVERYTHING makes my stomach hurt at this point. YES, even grass fed sirloin steaks. I tried 2 weeks of carnivore and it had me completely bound up and constipated so bad. This isn't my diet anymore. I have to heal first, but I think that you and I are different than the "masses" now. Our 2nd brains (microbiome) is now dictating the show and telling our bodies what it wants and NEEDS to heal. Follow your instincts, do what improves YOUR health, and don't listen to the absurd "experts".

You have a great attitude about these comments. I do what works and sometimes that changes! I did Paleomedicina’s strict meat and fat diet for 8 months fighting cancer. Now I try to add some veggies and soon fruit… I eat cultured dairy including carb heavy raw milk. I know humans love ideology… just look at politics, religion, and even sports! The diet fascists are on their own journey, bless them!! I have used food and work in addictive ways often in my life. I don’t drink or use drugs. I like to think of addiction as any behavior that gives you temporary relief, temporary pleasure, but in the long term causes harm, has some negative consequences and you can’t give it up, despite those negative consequences (Dr. Gabor Maté’s definition). We all fall into addiction at some point but maybe not forever. I sleep sooooo much better with some carbs. Let people believe in the diet religion they want and keep spreading positivity 🙌🏽 Keep hugging your kids💚

Glucose is the preferred source of fuel for the brain. Once you have broken insulin resistance and achieved your weight loss goals you should absolutely reincorporate this important macro just not in the form of a refined sugar or starch. Berries are an excellent source of carbs with a low glycemic index and low glycemic load, not to mention packed with Phyto nutrients.

Maybe there is some sort of cycling that is most optimal for diets. I am glad that what you are doing now is making you health. If we look at our ancestors in the era before agriculture (when most of our ancestors lived) they ate seasonally and carbs were just available during a small window every year. So I think it makes sense to cycle through periods of low carbs and moderate carbs throughout the year. Since most of us tend to do less physical activity than our ancestors, I think it's prudent that in our periods of higher carb consumption we don't binge extreme levels of carbs because we don't have the movement that will help to metabolize it rapidly

My wife is an endurance athlete and has led a pretty strict low carb lifestyle. Last summer she began to wake up at night with a racing heart. Her Dr. put her on a continuous glucose monitor and found that she was going hypoglycemic just before the episodes and her body was doing a big hormone spike to wake her up. She's added in 100 g of complex carbs with her evening meal and she now has nearly perfect sleep scores (Oura ring and Apple Watch) and no hypoglycemic dips (CGM.) People with their pseudo science / armchair expert opinions on internet chat really aren't worth your time. Everyone's bodies and lifestyles are a little different. I guarantee as an active lifter who is 100lbs, 10% body fat, and does 300+ road miles a month she would athletically crush 99% of zero carb commenters. FWIW I personally eat zero carb / carnivore.

All carbs turn into glucose, including sugar. It's all glucose so yes it is expected the sugar cravings stopped when you added carbs because they're basically the same. If you look at bread or pasta etc then it's the same as looking at a pile of sugar, most people don't realize this.

@TheOne-pv4rz
@TheOne-pv4rz 4 күн бұрын
@@marylise367 It's certainly a good thing you eat less of them. Yes listen to your body, it's only a matter of time before it will revolt against the carbs in some way. The body can handle about 4 grams of carbs per day, anything above it will cause inflamation. Obviously somebody that eats +100 grams of carbs per day will run into trouble much sooner than somebody on eg 20 carbs per day. Amount of exercise also plays a role as the muscles can absorb and use the excess glucose. So somebody on 30 grams of carbs can mitigate the excess glucose if they exercise on a regular basis.

I'm glad you found something that is working for you. Everyone does their own N of 1 experiment with their health. However, it is possible to be addicted to carbs and I would admit that I probably fall into that category. But to label someone else as such should only be done by a properly licensed medical practitioner after a proper evaluation. The fifth revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V), includes a definition of behavioral addiction which may apply even if you believe that carbs are not an addictive substance. "Behavioral addiction is an addictive disorder within the category of Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders in the DSM-5, and it describes the experience of cravings, strong urges, and disruptions in one's functioning related to a particular behavior"

I love you, I love your response to the “addicts” and dogmatic carnivores. I am in the same boat, somewhat. I have added back some carbs, some real sugar and I do not become ravenous to eat everything. I can handle a few bites and I am happy with that. I will eat a few bites, outside of the kitchen, and will not go back down to eat a whole bag of chips OR a bowl of ice cream, or other stuff. I will not stuff myself with all that afterwards. I am content. I can eat a small amount and be happy with it and then not eat it for days-on-end until I feel like having a nibble. I wasn’t like this for years. I cut out most carbs, most processed carbs and potatoes, for years. I now can consume a little and be happy. When I recreated my macros the end of last year I said my limit was between 60 and 100. Per day. A couple of days a week I go above, I don’t feel guilty, I do not go and over-consume. I am content. I am glad you are at the same point in your life. Thanks for explaining it in such a great way.

Doing some fasting to get my hunger cues back on track then pivoting to keto vore. I tried for the last month to carnivore harder, and its not working for me personally. I was thinking of adding a carb at bed time to help with my sleep, I have no intention of adding carbs to my diet other then to see if a little helps with sleep......too many pluses to not eating carbs IMHO. If I was addicted I wouldn't be into this for 3 months already and coming through Christmas.....that was a test LOL.

Eating carbs is NOT an addiction. It’s a natural human impulse. Our bodies are designed to be able to use it as a source of fuel. If we were as limited to one macronutrient, as some purists would have us believe,.. the human species would not have survived. Survival dictates that we can and do eat form a variety of sources,… especially when food is scarce. Our biochemistry is flexible enough for us to consume and utilise whatever is available. Carbs are not and cannot be an addiction. It like saying red blooded males are addicted to looking at women,… not they are just biologically wired to be attracted to women. Procreation is survival. Eating carbs is natural. Do it or don’t do it,… we live in a world of plenty so can choose,… but vilifying a major macronutrient is just plain silly stop it.

I'll probably always be a carb addict, January I had zero carbs but Between Christmas and New Year I ate probably 5 kilograms of chocolate and some other desserts :) I can go for many months with zero carbs but then I may plan a weekend of carbs or even a week and usually I do a fast afterwards. I think it's easier to abstain for longer when I tell myself that sometime in the future I can have chocolate or other sweet things again.

She's not eating crazy amounts of carbs. She's eating from 100-150g which is well below the average carb consumption in America and she focuses on complex carbs and not sugar and flours. She's pretty lean and active and that allows her to have more carbs than someone that's obese or has diabetes

It's rarely helpful to accuse someone else of having an addiction. Like that will somehow put them in a different brain space... Personally, I am addicted to sweets and processed foods. And I do stay carnivore because I have done significant amounts of metabolic injury to my body. It has been a big help. Far be it from me to think that means I should tell others exactly what to do with their gut and body. Unless they want me to venture a guess. Which is exceedingly rare. 😂

People need to go watch Dr Ben Bikmans video where he discusses that you thyroid is lowered by keto. It's true... you lower T3 when doing low carb. I don't think people need tons of carbs, but I think we need some. I think low carb is great.. I eat balanced and focus on autophagy.
@nataliajimenez1870
@nataliajimenez1870 3 күн бұрын
Insulin also is lowered in low carb, but the body becomes more insulin sensitive, therefore a smaller amount of insulin does a better job than a high amount of insulin was doing in the past. A lower T3 without actual symptoms of hypothyroidism may mean that your body has become more sensitive to T3 and doesn't have to produce as much hormone. We have to be careful when comparing hormone levels under different metabolic states of the body

Although carbs are addictive food, I wouldn't say that someone who is carb conscious and follows a keto, low carb, meat based, carnivore, or lion diet is addicted to carbs. I say this, bcuz we don't know enough about the proper human diet yet. It could be that the human body needs a small or minor amount of carbs. Nobody knows this yet for sure. We certainly shouldn't continue listening to the FDA but so far, bcuz they still saying that vegetables and grains are better than meat, low fat meat is better than fatty meat, and seed oils are better than animal fats and butter. They still pushing the low fat and high carb way to weight control. And meanwhile, they still have people on meds and getting bariatric surgery to lose weight. In my carb experiments, I found the most serious culprits. This is cucumbers, tomatoes, and pasta. Man, that stuff is like signing my own death certificate. 🤣 Especially the pasta. And even the carbs that don't do me in immediately, I still can only have in moderation. I am eating apples, onions, zucchini, watermelon, and walnuts. But in moderation.

I currently follow a predominantly animal based diet. However, I do include some fruits with breakfast and lunch and occasionally potato (🫨) with dinner, a small amount, though it satisfies my love of potatoes. Since none of the carbs come from over processed foods, I am not going to worry about it. It works for me. Your diet works for you. Good going!

Especially after like 7-10 miles of running at 7000 ft ish..had the car parked at a grocery store witb a Starbucks. Java chip venti Frappuccino what my body used to recover! Then. But was I addicted?..yes! .to the cycle of long calorie burn with a high calorie reward. Stay in your spotl But pay attention to changes and be ready to make mods. I'd like to hear your take on seed oils too. To me a bigger issue (potentiality).

You're absolutely right-everyone's body responds differently to carbs, and the type of carbs you consume makes a huge difference. Refined sugars and processed carbs can lead to energy crashes and other health issues, while whole food carbs like fruits, vegetables, honey, and dairy provide sustained energy and essential nutrients. Pairing these healthier carb choices with regular exercise and an active lifestyle is key to maintaining balance and ensuring those extra calories are put to good use. It's all about making mindful choices and finding what works best for your body and goals! Don’t let negative thoughts or comments weigh you down-often, they stem from the struggles and insecurities others are dealing with internally

I think it’s because influencers tend to follow trends or path of least resistance. Seems like more of a cynical view that you are following the Paul Saladino path and some don’t like that approach. This comes from a place of almost feeling abandoned I think sometimes or possibly the groupthink mentality. In reality of course it’s a personal journey and not all diets work for all people. It looks like you fell off the wagon to some but you are adjusting to a better personal diet. But I will say your understanding of addiction is not accurate. Addiction is not binging. That’s different. Addicts may not look like addicts from the outside because they are regular in their consumption of whatever it is. When you limit it you get withdrawals and want to binge.

My channel is and always has been a place for me to share whatever I'm interested in and what's going on in my life. If you go back in my videos you can find pregnancy updates and Instant Pot tutorials, etc. Honestly, if I really wanted to make a lot of money I would focus 100% on the carnivore diet, sing its praises and create carnivore recipes exclusivity. That's what the algorithm currently likes. If you really feel like I don't have integrity with what I share then I hope you wouldn't waste your time watching my videos

@@IndigoNili You have not had 168K following you for 14 years. Your channel exploded because of KETO. You are monetized because of KETO. People are watching for health, recipes, etc. I started watching you a few years ago because of your egg white bread recipes. I just worry about the people who are being influenced by these changes. People who are looking to heal. People who come to ketogenic diets are often looking to change the trajectory of their health. Carbs ARE "bad" for these people. VERY BAD. I hope they realize and look for content that will actually help them.

There are plenty of other channels where the people you are worried about being “hurt” can go for medical views that may suit them better. There are even medical doctors with carb addiction advice. If someone has a weight or health or carb addition problems they should follow some medical doctors, like Dr. Westman or Cywes (literally the Carb Addiction Doctor) or Dr. Barry or even nutrition experts like Dr. Ekberg. You are also free to make your own channel and point the people that you are worried about in the right direction.

I think the whole "carb addiction" get thrown around a bit too easy. I'm heaing myself with the carnivore GAPS diet right now and it's so powerful I can't even put it into words because it sounds unbelievable but I do think I want to go back to phases of eating carbs in my life. I think when I am fully healed I'll do a bit of keto here and there and carnivore but in summer I am taking a carb vacation and I am just going to have pizza and beer and enjoy the hell out of it. I have no serious chronic illnesses and I have no carb addiction. I actually never had a carb craving ever when in ketosis. Would I be considered carb addicted? No....I am not. I am just a person who wants to enjoy life and doesn't always strive for optimum health every day of every year so sue me.
