I’ve been trying to transition my screen time from KZbin to canon+ 😄
@TheSMEAC2 жыл бұрын
I can understand, but at the same time may I suggest (if you have YT premium) that you still listen to all their stuff on YT. Here’s my thinking. I have a Canon app annual subscription, just as I do Apologia for example. But if it’s a product they show on YT, I background listen to it over Bluetooth earbuds or I cast it on the screen in my woodshop so that in addition to my subscription I’ve already payed for, Canon and all their canon affiliated folks I watch and listen to are getting the algorithm monster fed which will put their material in front of more people (regenerate and pagan alike); not to mention if they can make some additional monetized minutes, then that’s great too. I guess what I’m getting at it this. That I use the materials of brothers and sisters as background ground entertainment and information while I’m also otherwise being productive, then I’m certainly going to do it on the platform that will have the greatest impact. Just my fractured 2¢ 😊

@@TheSMEAC I feel you, but most of what I do is while working or driving, I’m not paying for KZbin premium, so the canon+ audio is a major benefit
@josiew31202 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I don't pay for YT premium but I have subscriptions on YT for Canon+, Christ Church, Cross Politic (when they aren't in YT jail), Voddie Baucham, Alastair Begg, and a host of others, primarily for the previously mentioned convenience of BT earbuds and casting to the main TV in the house where I can catch glimpses while doing household chores. Also, anyone else who wanders through knows what my focus is. I'm not tech savvy enough to know about algorithms, but if these guys are benefitting from my using YT this way, then glory to God!

AMAZING!!!! I have always struggled with being critical... I am my first victim and it flows out from there. I am struggling finding the strong and clear line between being critical and using critical thinking. I think one is a poison and the other is absolutely necessary. I believe my heavenly father will be faithful to reveal this and appreciate so much the way he uses the wisdom Douglass shares to clarify and confirm... BRILLIANT!

I highly recommend deleting social media apps from your phone for a season! The first couple weeks you’ll find yourself grabbing your phone without even thinking and attempting to scroll, in the most bizarre moments. Then it gets easier, then you don’t miss it at all!

Social media is a tool that can be useful or misused. As Believers we should be utilizing this tool to further God’s kingdom. To do this we need to place God first and seek to build others up. Social media can be used to spread the gospel, encourage and educate the faithful, admonish the heretic and impenitent, and hold others accountable.

Has social media been overwhelmingly beneficial to society? If its replacing what has traditionally been a normal way of relating to other human beings perhaps not. I don't personally see it as an effective means of sharing the Gospel. Jesus came in the flesh, not virtually. Something worth considering.

Doug, this is off topic, but what are your thoughts about the Modern English Version of the Bible? It uses the same textual basis as the KJV. You stated in a past video that you'd prefer something like that for preaching, so I hope you might find it of interest! +God bless you

Eh, turning off the comments has had some mixed results. So the way it works now is he has a single post per week, on Tuesdays, where comments are turned on. The benefit to this is that any disruptive comment behavior is confined there, not clogging every single post. The trade off though is that since it is the *only* place you can post, and it covers an infinite number of topics, the thing regularly becomes a giant gangly mess. If I want to respond to one of the weekly letters, comment about some new event in the news cycle like the Roe v Wade news, respond to someone else making a poor argument, and make a joke, do I make one gigantic post covering all topics, or a bunch of separate posts, causing my name to be constantly appearing all over the place, giving the impression of my being a nuisance? Then, since its the only place to post for a week, you have to continually check back to see if anyone responded to you. If you post on Tuesday, get a response on Thursday, and you don't see it until Sunday, odds are its a dead conversation anyway since no one will see any new response you write before the new weekly thread arrives. So in the event both you and the person you're conversing with are right there at the same time it works out fine, but if there's a time gap, getting the conversation to finish before the Tuesday reset can be a bit of a hazard.

This is a good word 🙌🏻 I have a tendency to get addicted (Instagram) so I take fasts and it’s very helpful. I’ve been more bold to share the gospel on IG (& I have lots of pagan “friends” on there) the last few years so I don’t think I’ll completely quit. There’s a really great Christian community on there as well. Have to always put your real life ahead of your online life though. If that’s imbalanced then take a fast.

So this has been interesting for me. Is the person online the mask or is it the person offline? I've been leaning toward the former especially in these later days. It would seem that online comm sections remove our inhibitors and a person online lives out who they really are. And to be honest I too have been guilty of extra snark, but have been trying to be more gracious of late. My rule is if I wouldnt do it in person I shouldn't online. But it would seem the comms have become a hot bed for lawlessness even amongst us who call on the Lord.

That's extreme. The Bible is online, and in many languages. That's important for people in closed countries where physical Bibles are difficult / dangerous to have. And think of all the ministries like this one, the connections with people around the world, the access to information, etc. It's a tool. Can it be used for evil purposes? Sure.
