Yes. Would've been even funnier if when the mom was questioning the dad about getting the bb guyn, the dad replied "santa sent it as a replacement for the lamp... unless you prefer the original arrangement...." Would've fit the theme of realism with families and how parents passive-aggressively tit-for-tating some of their compromises.

I love this movie because it really helps you remember how Christmas was when you were a kid. It was just magical and everyone had that one present they wanted more than anything in the world. And the fact that the dad was the one who wound up getting him the BB gun, without consulting his wife, made it feel even more special because just because he wasn't paying attention doesn't mean he wasn't listening.

Hey Addie. Also wanted to have a little tidbit. The scene at the end of the movie in the Chinese restaurant the mom's reaction to the duck was real. The director did not tell them that it was going to be a duck with full head and neck. And that was a surprise also the chopping off of the neck was not revealed to the cast. So all of moms reactions were genuine. Fun fact

Seeing the Bandits with xx on their eyes, made me think of my nephew, Bryan. Bryan always had a stoic expression on his face growing up. His parents wanted to emphasize Jesus at Christmas, so they told him that there was no Santa Clause. They did explain to him where the character originated. They explained who St. Nicholas was and that he lived centuries ago. All was well until Bryan started school. Of course, when the other kids started talking about Santa, Bryan would "set them straight". That didn't go over well. His parents got a call from the teacher explaining that Bryan was upsetting some of the kids, AND their parents. So, they sat him down and exlained how other parents wanted their kids to believe in Santa. They told him that if the topic of Santa came up, he shouldn't talk about St. Nicholas living centuries ago and that he shouldn't disabuse the kids of their belief. So, it happened one day that they were out Christmas shopping at the mall. As they were making a purchase, the clerk tried to engage this stoic little boy and make him smile. She asked him, "Are you ready for Santa to come?" Without changing his expression, Bryan replied, "Santa Clause is dead. But, we don't talk about it." To this day they have an ornament on their tree. Santa Clause...with xx on his eyes.

Hey Addie, as a child of Minnesota who did it many times. And yes it does freeze immediately to the pole or whatever steel object you're sticking your tongue on. It's very simple. You cup your hands from your face to whatever object to your tongue is stuck to and you exhale. The warm breath will take care of the problem. So, as an adult if you're ever just curious and freeze your tongue to a pole that's your exit strategy. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. As always you're awesome ❤️💚☘️🇺🇦

If you want to know something funny. The kid that plays Ralphie grew up and he's the executive producer of the (at least the first one) Ironman movies. He also plays one of the scientists in the movie. Specifically, the bald one that gets chastised by the villain for not being able to replicate Tony Stark's arc-reactor tech and suit. He does reprise that role later in the franchise.

Little trivia tidbit: The way they pulled off the tongue-frozen-to-metal-pole gag was a little hole in the pole and suction inside the pole. From the side view of the camera, the tongue being put up to a hole with suction couldn't be seen. The kid did a great job of looking like he was in pain (and panic). I learned that mistake when I was a kid; only with me it wasn't a pole outside, it was a freezer shelf. 😳🤣

A long time ago, I worked in a restaurant that had a very crowded walk-in freezer. After a large delivery, you frequently had to inch sideways while getting to what you needed. Hey lady fellow employee friend of mine had caused to go in the freezer in the middle of summer. Of course her shirt and bra were soaking wet from the heat. 🙄 Her boobs froze to one of the steel shelves, and she got stuck in there. 😄

Welcome to my favorite Christmas movie, Addie! This is an absolute classic: fun, silly, nostalgic, and heart-warming. You mentioned all the Wizard of Oz references, and that's because it came out in 1939, and this movie is set in 1940, so it would have been quite popular at the time. Also, a new HBO movie came out very recently called "A Christmas Story Christmas," set 33 years after this one, and it has almost all the original cast from this one. It's very enjoyable and surprisingly emotional, and I definitely recommend that you watch it....the sooner the better, while this one is fresh in your mind. For the record, they should have just poured warm water over Flick's tongue. Clearly the fire department didn't send their best... for the sake of comedy, of course. I think I was officially 'old' when I started to really enjoy getting socks as a gift. I had a pink bunny outfit not too dissimilar from Ralphie's, though it didn't have bunny faces on the feet. It wasn't purchased as a Halloween costume, but I only remember ever wearing it to go trick or treating one Halloween. I was young enough not to really care if it looked goofy and, since it was one of the few opportunities I had to go trick or treating (I lived in a rural area with few houses and NO children), I wouldn't have cared how goofy I looked, anyway. Some family friends invited us to come to their street (in the city!) for Halloween, and I absolutely raked in the candy. It was glorious. The only intense part of the evening was this one house... the owners went all out with spooky lighting and sound effects and, in order to get your candy, you had to take it out of a bowl being held by a man, sitting in a lawn chair amongst the creepy scenery and wearing a rather fierce looking gorilla costume. I was very cautious about getting that particular piece of candy, but I persevered. The woman who invited us just passed this morning, so... R.I.P., Judy.

Assuming this hasn't already been mentioned, the Wizard of Oz features so prominently in this movie because it is set during the time right after that movie came out.

Tongue frozen to metal object in sub zero temps : It is very real . The trick is to use lots of saliva which is at least above freezing temperature or else regular water poured onto the metal object above the tongue . you just need a few degrees warmer to free the tongue without leaving a yard of skin behind

Hehe.. I got the 'soap' treatment in grade school. Happy to say.. I didn't go blind :p Nice reaction! It's a classic.. love all the relationships between family members. Funny enough.. for the new years.. we do have Peking duck and char siu.. The nice free calendar and fortune cookies we get from the restaurant is always a treat. Haven't yet seen anyone react to a Bishop's Wife or A Christmas Carol(1951 A Simm).. makes me wonder if this is a CR issue or that the quality of the video is an issue. Anywho... happy hollow christmas new year's eve girl :D

Peter Billingsley recently went to the house because they made the new movie where he is a dad and I guess the guy who owns that house now came outside and started yelling at him for signing autographs outside his house. Peter has gone on to become a successful movie producer who works with Jon Favreau a lot and they produced Iron man and Elf where Peter has a small part at the beginning playing one of the elves, he is the one with six white puffs on his red coat and has glasses.

The narrator was spot on with his voice and intonation, the movie captures so many of childhood's real moments and you're right all the kids in this are so likeable. This is one of the must watch movies every year for us just as are Scrooged, A Christmas Carol (both the 1951 and 1984 versions) and Its A Wonderful Life. The original A Miracle On 34th Street as well.

This movie and Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas are the 2 movies that i have to watch every year. They're the ones that remind me of Christmas when I was a kid. I remember watching Emmit Otter when it originally aired.

Hi Addie... I'm Canadian, so when you said it was 7 degrees, I'm busy doing calculations, and that's 25 degrees belove freezing, which is about -12 degrees Celcius. Wow, that is pretty cold! Not burtal ocld, but "I don't like it" cold.

I love this movie. It’s my go to Christmas movie. The best part is how the old man came through and got the BB gun for Ralphie. It reminds me of my late father who would come through clutch when it really mattered.

This is my family's go to Christmas movie always playing in the background since always on a marathon around Christmas. The Santa & his helpers wasn't scary & weren't treating the kids bad, that was the kids point of view. You know how little children always cry when they're put on Santa's lap. That's what this was supposed to represent a child's point of view

I always cry when Ralphie's mom downplays the fight in front of the dad. I was bullied as a kid, but my mom never believed me because the bullies were polite around her. Since I never stood up for myself, I never got any sort of closure with them, like Ralphie did. My friend Zack, who played the bully, recently told me that they were making a sequel to this. It just came out a little while ago. Maybe you can react to it next Christmas.

Thank you for reacting to this classic. I used to watch it every year. The reason there are so many The Wizard of Oz references is because the movie takes place in 1940, which would have been one year after The Wizard of Oz was released.
