Travis, good video. I did recently purchase some cheato (2 bags) from your site. It did ship quick and unfortunately that is where my good experience stopped. When I opened the bag it was very foul smelling. I did a quick rinse in a cup of tank water and then put it in the refugium. Days later it's all white and falling apart blowing all over in my tank. Also, I assume it's the white lights you have, but I'm using the cheatomaxx light for my fuge. I moved my established cheato which is very stiff as yours was very, very thin like rice noodle. Is a good price but guess a light like yours would be needed to keep it alive. Personally I would not order again.

@@Nawlinsboy 400 watts of lighting causes the cheato to grow fast in turn being thin. The smell is normal with it being in the bag, simply rinse and remove anything that might be light in color. The 5000k lights from homedpot are basic and as long as your cheato isnt competing with algae in a display tank or lack of no3 and po4 it shouldnt die.

I noticed the light fixture @1:48 is metal pipe to hold the light. I had a similar light fixture and started to see heavy metals such as aluminum and copper come back on my ICP tests. Removed the fixture and the heavy metals disappeared over time after the removal. Have you had any issues like that? It seems to me that the saltwater begins to corrode the metal over time and it drops in the tank.

HOLY macro dude!!!! The new addition to your system looks great! I have been wanting to start up my refugium again now that my system is old enough, and I know my Chaeto wont die off. Im still a bit apprehensive, but have learned enough in this hobby to know what light I would need. Just trying to decide my next step. Thanks for amazing content.

I have my 300gal in my living room. How could you not. It’s nice to sit and watch. Strange it’s in a basement... I pump water from my basement so my sump and fuge is down there.

Hey Travis, it's been a while I didn't see you or came by your channel, and say hi. As always you got really great DIY ideas. Nice addition to your system. That chaeto grow like weed. My refugium light blow on me last week and I haven't decided what to do, if use a new saucer light or do a DIY but in my cabinet I don't have to much space for hanging so that got me thinking about it.

So I have a refugium setup in my sump with chaeto. I also had some PODS and Marine Pure blocks. The blocks have brown spots all over them and the Chaeto will not grow even though I have a dome lamp and bulb that supposed to be for growing. Would you know any reason why it wont grow ? And also why im having the brown spots?

Hi, first off just came across your channel the other day, listened to huge chunk of your videos on my 12 hour car drive. Love your channel! Had a couple questions. 1.) I know you mentioned the 3/4" supply to your refugium is plumbed off your manifold, and the two drains go to your sump. Does that mean you pump skimmed water into your refugium, if so its obviously working. just curious cause usually I see the refugium in line before the skimmer. 2.) Do you have any kind of diagram out there on one of your videos or website that have your system drawn out? I know it would take some time but I think it would be extremely useful to us know subscribers and old alike! Anyways thanks in advance and love your channel!!!! Thanks for all the helpful advice!

When it comes to the refugium it can be anywhere as long as its part of the system it will do its job, as for the layout of my systems i have videos showing how i made them all checkout frag tank playlist. I kinda just make things up as i go dont really write to much down or spend a ton of time over thinking it.

Thanks for the video! How long did you wait for the glue to dry before you turned on the manifold again?

Nice job. I just wish you or anyone in the community could tell me why cheato in my system keeps dying. Seems like it will grow well for a couple months and then it begins to decompose in my sump. Just recently I purchased a bunch of cheato and almost immediately if began to decompose and I had to get it out of my system. My refugium is now just two marine pure blocks. I have plenty of fish in my tank for bio load so I can't figure why it isn't thriving. I'm using a Kessil H380 for my fuge, running 11 hours. Also, there is no algae in my display tank. Any thoughts? Thanks

Mervin Jones I had the same issue start with just 3 or 4 hours of light and work your way up to where you want it by adding a half hour weekly to the time

Nitrate is 8 and Phos is .30 My Cheato has died under various nutrient levels but I assumed there was always enough to grow cheato. My ICP tests don't show anything glaringly out of the norm. Funny thing is, GHA grows very well in my fuge and even grows over the cheato. I really don't get itl
