This is a technique that I use often in my tatted jewelry designs. A mock ring, also known as a self closing mock ring (SCMR) in tatting patterns, is really a tatted chain that has been closed back on itself. I used size 10 Lizbeth cotton thread in this demo and a 6mm round bead. I used a size 14/.75mm crochet hook to add the bead onto the loop. Sometimes I also use a different way to add the bead when this method doesn't work for a particular bead or thread size, such as shown in my other video, "Bead in center of tatted ring". I used a larger crochet hook to do the final lock join (size 12/1.00mm) because a very small hook tends to split the thread. The smaller hook was used with the bead, though, because it fit through the center of the bead.
The way that I hold my shuttle, etc. is a little different from the way many people tat, but it is comfortable for me.
