Adding a Glock Backstrap (Gen 4/ Gen 5)

This is a quick tutorial on how to install backstraps on a glock gen 4 or gen 5 according to the Glock owners manual using the included parts in your box. This includes the beavertail backstrap as shown on my Glock 17.

Lightly using a quality mallet, gently tapping the pin in- once the holes were aligned. Guy is a craftsman, no fumbling, no brute force. Easy-peasy. Used his method, same length of time, degree of difficulty. Well Done, Sir. You’re a great teacher!

Was hard to line up the large grip. Took a solid 10-15 min to get it all lined up for some reason but it feels great with a bigger grip. Can’t wait to finally shoot this thing!!

Mine was not lining up at first on my brand new gen 5 17. It was very frustrating. You have to mess with the back strap until it eventually lines up. I just kept taking it on and off. When the pin goes it there should not take a ton of pressure. Once its like 90% through it will take more pressure so just use the base of a magazine.

I just bought a Glock 20 Gen 5 and it only came with 2 backstraps and no assembly kit like that. Just one plastic stick to remove the pin. That's about it. Do gun shops sell a kit similar to that?

i have Glock 19x Gen 5 mine doesnt stay flush 1 side sticks out, as in bigger. Pry how its meant to be the grip is on tight. It's flush just like a nail head is all on 1 side, does not come out the other. I'm guessing thats good.

Wish I could comment a picture. Use a T6 precision driver instead of the tool that comes with Glock. It is almost the same circumference, flat at the tip and most importantly.. metal. Husky makes great precision drivers. Sold at Home Depot.

Will not work with polymer 80 PF45 frames. I understand that it's a generation difference but most of us that do 80% know how to use dremel tools, no matter what you do you're not going to get it to fit.

use the too provided to push that pin out, then wiggle the back strap from the top until it pops off. Then reinstall the small pin

The backstraps didn't come with instructions, I thought they just snapped on. Obviously the backstrap came off after a little use at the range. I literally just finished using epoxy to glue on, then I saw this video. Whoops. My backstrap is permanent! Lol

I actually really appreciate this as a new glock 17 owner. I probably would have put the same pin in the back for the beavertail i chose instead of replacing with the longer pin. It's kind of wordy in the manuel and references other models too, so I thought why not youtube it just to see and found the perfect video right here. Thank you!
