Hi Chris. I saw your video on the audio jack and ordered the part from you. It arrived quickly. I reviewed the video again before installing the audio jack. I also bought the 1 step drill bit. I love it. It made the job easier and very professional. The jack works on the speakers that work. Now I am looking at your continuity video to check the wires. Excellent video. The intercom system in our new to us home is about 1998 and is model IM3303. May be in touch if I cannot figure out how to make the other speakers work. Thanks for doing this. I appreciate it. Kevin

I ordered the connector from you and installed it easily, following the video. Thanks so much for this! I added a Mpow Streambot Mini Bluetooth 4.0 Receiver that plugs in nicely to the audio jack. I can now play music from the iPhone and control it from anywhere in the house. It really has extended the life of the NuTone system - I'd like to get stereo one day, but for now the system works beautifully. (About to try cleaning the pots on the room speaker boxes following your other video :-) )

@@northsideservicecompany3567 Thanks for the reply. I get that, but looking at the schematics available for this unit, they are not very clear on internal wiring. This is the exact model that I have. I guess I will just have to crack it open an use the multi-meter to figure out the correct path. What I am ultimately attempting to do is mount a Bluetooth board in that corner, so I can stream Sirius XM radio from my phone.

Great information - I'm going to try this. Couldn't you file the shoulder on the jack down to get it to fit flush to the inside of the face plate, rather than chamfer the inside? Either way - really helpful!
@northsideservicecompany35678 жыл бұрын
+Dan Lee Hi Dan, After installing hundreds of these assemblies. I've found it simpler to chamfer the inside of the hole that mess around filing down the shoulder. Thanks Chris

Hi Lou: Nope. You are to far away from us for me to know anyone. It is a fairly simple project - if you're not going to do-it-yourself, then a handyman should be able to handle it - Chris
@jonathanleslie91006 жыл бұрын
HEY!!! thank you!!! it works perfectly. Now for the next product you should do: Where can I tap on the board to get either 12v DC, or 5v DC so I can make a usb charger for my media player. I'm going to 3d print a cradle for my phone that attaches to the nutone, but what would make it complete is if I could find a dc power supply in that unit to use for the phone. I see the transformers are putting out 18v AC, I might just get an AC-DC converter, but there should be a DC inverter somewhere on the board already. Any idea where? I'm talking about the IM-3033. P.S. this would make a great kit for you to offer: a bolt on phone cradle with a usb connection to charge the phone, and the 3.5mm stereo jack to plug into the phone all in one. just some double back tape to stick it to the wall or front of the unit.
@northsideservicecompany35676 жыл бұрын
There is no reasonable place to tap power in your IM3303 and there is no DC inverter. Modifying the IM3303 is ill advised - your best course of action is to add 3rd transformer - add an AC-DC regulated power supply connected to a USB power supply. You will need to careful if you try to use the IM3303's transformers because you may get into a ground loop issue with the audio connection if you do it wrong While all of this is possible to do if the person doing it understands what they're doing - however it would be beyond what most people can manage. Selling kits automatically means the the seller has to be in the "Customer Service" business in regards to their kits, and that's not something I have the time for - I'm too busy just repairing Intercoms. There are already many phone cradles available to buy - Chris

Really nice done video! One question after hooking up the audio input jack: how can I increase the volume of the aux input? Now the volume of aux is much lower than the radio or cd even if I increase to the full volume on my phone or tablet. Is there something like what you showed in increasing the chime volume? My model number is IMA-4406. Thanks!
@northsideservicecompany35676 жыл бұрын
Hi Chao: The output signal level from different external devices can vary quite a lot - My phone has fairly low signal output - my customers with iPhones don't ever seem to have any problems. I understand that some phones have volume limits to the headphone jack - to prevent haring damage from high volume. An a IMA4406, there is a input adjustment pot next to each of the RCA Input sockets - which you can carefully adjust to see if that improves things (only about 3/4 of a turn for full rotation) You can also compensate for the low signal level by increasing the the "System Volume" adjustment behind the lower right-hand door on the IMA4406 Chris
@xuchaopku6 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, thanks a lot for the quick reply. I will try to look for the adjustment pot for the RCA input socket when I get home today. Is it in the same shape as the one you showed in the video to adjust the chime volume?

It is similar - usually it has a blue body and a white adjustment wheel - it is located right next to each RCA input jack - Chris

a very well done video, but for me you showed everything I know already, but didn't detail what I came to see: how to hook up the auxiliary jack to the nu tone unit. I have the unit in the house I just bought, I have no manual, and I don't even know how to open it, or where the connections are to use the auxiliary jack. Your instructions are general instructions on how to mount a stereo 3.5mm jack to ANY box, and plug it into a mono RCA jack. There is nothing specific of how to attach this cable to the NuTone unit, how to open the unit, or where the ports are to connect to. do you have another video or can point to one that shows these steps? - TIA, someone who already knows all about mounting a connector to a faceplate but is clueless about the nutone internal wiring.

Hi Jonathan: Since you didn't tell me what Model System you have, I can't give you any specific information - however in the nearly 200 Videos we have posted, I'm sure there's a Video that shows you how to open up your Model. We have Installation Manuals for the most popular systems on our web site and these will show you where the auxiliary jacks are located for your model I can not make a Video for every model that NuTone has made to show where the jacks are located - it will require some investigation on the owners parts to complete the project - Chris
@jonathanleslie91006 жыл бұрын
ahh thanks so much for your reply and your video is expertly done. , as I'm sure all the units are basically similar with respect to the aux in jack, just having an example of one of them would be great. I've downloaded the owner's manual, the installation manual, and I'm now searching the internet and cannot believe I can't so much as find a picture of the aux-in jack on ANY nutone unit. FWIW, this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4GnpKl-h7uIlcU does a perfect job of showing how to open the unit and move about. Its great that you have done 200 video's on this subject, but being able to search them is a daunting task. I'll take a look at your website and hope I can see a picture of the aux in jack that I'm assuming you just simply plug in the RCA jack into. - Jonathan

CAREFUL! I came here because the 1/8" TRS plug hanging out of my Broan (M&S) intercom only played the left channel. I have not taken it apart yet but now I think I know what is going on. Now, the reason for the warning: simply connecting the two leads from a stereo signal is dangerous to the source device! Think about it. One output channel can feed back into the other, which was not designed for that. You can damage the output circuit on your phone, computer, etc. using this method. It depends on the signal and the device. There are, however, DIY ways to do this safely with some resistors. Search for stereo to mono summing circuit.

Hi idrummist: What you describe is not really an issue or problem with modern audio products such as, Phones, MP3 Player, Satellite Radio Receivers etc. This idea dates back to the days of completely analog devices like record players. Modern devices have enough protection built into them to prevent any type problems like you describe. - Chris
