Adding assignments to your Saitek Panels for X-Plane

Time to change it up a bit and this time I will attempt to show you how to add button and switch assignments to your Saitek panels.

Can you help me out. just brought new airfoilabs c-172 I am trying map this point (C172/cockpit/fuelPump) to the fuel switch on my Saitek panel shows up as command. I mapped the one with same name as a float and it move the switch'. but didn't really spin up pump.

You know I think for that one I just downloaded the configuration file for the org and all the switches work. I'll check what assignment it has for the fuel pump.

Ok so I did not have to add anything for the fuel pump switch to work. I'm just using the XSaitek panel configuration file V1.3 for the C172. I have the old Airfoillabs C172 though

first and foremost love your channel. The issue I am having is the point that controls the fuel pump for the new airfoilabs 172 ng is C172/cockpit/fuelPump. There are 2 points with this name one is a float dataref # 4 in the ini file. the other one is listed as command dataref # 2, the command is what I need to control. I have verified with the datareftool and the schematic included with the airfoilabs aircraft. I have linked the float dataref and have it working (moving the switch in the aircraft). But the one I having issues mapping in the ini file is the command. @@vapilot7814 The problem is you can only use either 2 for command or 4 for a float dataref. So if you put 2 and put the relevant command nothing happens? I don't own the new NG version of that plane so I have no way of testing it myself.

i still have the default saitek switch panel commands even if i put 0 on every slot, how i disable the main switches? its seems to be de default saitek plugin but i am using the saitek fip, so there is a way to isolate or delete the saitek switch panel from that plugin? thanks before hand

Hello Luis, it should disable the switches if you put 0 in the configuration file. I have done it a few times for experimental reasons and it does make the switch not work anymore. I do have a custom configuration file inside the folder of each aircraft I fly though, not sure if that makes any difference. I don't event change the configuration file in the plugins folder.

@Emilio Shaya seems like your comment is the latest victim of KZbin. I got an email notifying me of your comment but when I click on it its nowhere to be found. I'll look for that "reload xsaitek ini" because that's certainly better than restarting X-Plane every time. I didn't find that the command for battery off was missing on my default ini file because I clearly remember putting a custom command for the zibo but I'll check again just be to sure

Glad to know that you managed to read the comment at least. Please let me know how it goes with the Reload of ini file. I just checked again that both V2.74 and v.275 are missing the word off from the command...

Very helpful. I would like to change the led light of the panel but it doesn't work as well. I can not change to red even if i put =2 as the color. Any help ?

Thanks for the vid. Can you or ANYONE help me. I’m using a Mac with X-Plane and I have the Logitech yoke and throttle and they work just fine. I purchased the Logitech flight panel as well but I cannot get this to work to save my life it’s the one with the landing care knob. Is there anyway to get this working??

Hi...Best regards dude. One question it´s posible assign a external rotary encoder to a dataref, in order to duplicate logitech panel faulty encoder, and work with it as original one, thx so much for your great work, yours sincerely Ignacio.

@ignacioherrero9374 Hello Ignacio, well that can very easily be done using SimVimX. That's the plugin all my other videos are about. Of course, you do need an Arduino Mega to connect the encoder to. @@Qosmokid thx dude, yes of course I know I must to use Simvimx and arduino Mega. I have one with the latest firmware ready to go... But I dont know the dataref valid to be used in combinación whith the saitek multipanel one... Whitout conflicts. Since you changed to Simvimx config tool seams to be more complicated than older Simvim app. Thx for your Quick response mate!!!

The question is if I select Hdg and set the value. Then I select Course if I set the value... Booth values are conected to the same encoder... Then this will be an inconsitence isnt?? Some idea to store diferent origin values whitout interferences???

Im not sure if your system its able to include some kind of memory register where store in real time each value till the next modification. And the game can show in the display when we select the Hdg, course, etc... Thx, Ignacio

Thanks, everything is assignable as long as you can find the command or dataref. I think I've only came across one function on a certain plane that I could not find.

I just purchased a Saitek switch panel to run with my sim (X-plane 11.5)...Question: When I modify the XSaitekpanel file to assign switch functions to a specific aircraft, do I save the modified file in the aircraft's folder? For example if I take the Base version of XSaitekpanel, and modify it for the default Baron where all switches function the way I want them, do I then save the file in the Baron folder?

Hello William, yes you save the configuration file with custom assignments in the root of that aircraft's folder

Despite what is an excellent and instructive video I am still unable to get the Multi Panel Auto Throttle to become the parking brake control. has anyone else managed this please?

Ok so I tried mapping thee auto throttle switch to the parking brake on the Zibo and I couldn't. No matter what I did, it still enabled the auto throttle. I even went into the FlyWithLua script and deleted a few lines pertaining to that but no luck. I was able to map a switch on the switch panel though.

I tried it also for the default C172 and couldn't accomplish it either. Actually I hit a road block because it seems my .ini file was not even getting read after I made changes to it. I had to give up for now because it was getting frustrating 🤣

@@Qosmokid Thank you so much for your kindnessmin doing that. If you cannot do it with your experience then I suspect my efforts are also doomed to failure. I have treid for two day and got nowhere. LIke you the auto throttle still kept working no matter what I did. I think I will have to map te parking brake to a switch on the quadrant and see if that works any better. Once again many thank for trying.

It's frustrating, for sure. One I JUST came across - OBS... for every plane it used OBS1 and OBS2 dataref, but for just ONE plane, it used one called COPILOT NAV2 OBS (or something like that), so you make the change and nothing would happened because they used that other dataref (and not only that, it isn't on the copilot side, its right there). Luckily for me I was able to just add the dataref and make the change to both at the same time and now I can use my OBS2 knob. For most of my switchbox I don't have it forced like the saitek panel, so they can go out of sync - that is because I have found sometimes that can cause errors with some payware planes where you force the switch to always mirror the physical switch - and I have also found you should always try to use a command if you can opposed to a dataref - they are the last resort (and I have plenty of last resorts programmed in)...

Oh I completely agree commands are preferable. This freaking Bell 407 uses custom datarefs for everything, even light switches lol. I wish they would just use default X-plane ones. I think they like to give cockpit builders a hard time just for fun lol

Yeah I can share it, but the changes I made to it might not be to your liking. Each plane I have made some changes to are just my personal preferences. Sometimes I'm using functions that have nothing to do with that switch
