We have a serious problem in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We have HORRIBLE fuel quality when it comes to performance. Regardless of what brand and what octane you use, a tuned Audi will not see the performance that you are supposed to get when you tune your car and use straight pump gas in BC. My buddy Adrian came out to data log his car multiple times so I could prove to you just how beneficial adding a little E85 to your pump gas can be in terms of performance.

Last week I drive to NY to add 6 gallons of E85 (guaranteed to be E71 or higher) to a full tank of 93 (which already has up to 10% ethanol in NY). My overall tank estimation was somewhere around 30% eOH. I am running an APR DP+ tune. The car is an absolute ANIMAL, I cant believe the difference. I can only imagine what a proper fuel map for this blend would be like-
@VancityAudi
@VancityAudi 2 жыл бұрын
If you haven't logged your fuel trims this is very inadvisable. 30% is the absolute limit of the stock fueling system. I don't recommend anyone blend more than 20% when running pump gas tunes at a DP+ power level or else you can lean your motor out and cause it to blow the F up.

They do, yes, but the octane of those fuels has already been made up of that included ethanol. By adding additional ethanol you will see improved performance. If you log your car you will see that you still are not achieving peak timing using that 91 octane fuel. At that point you can comfortably add another 5 to 10% ethanol on top of that and see all of the timing retardation be removed and get what you paid for out of your vehicle.

C85 is fine, the petroleum element is 'race gas' rather that the usual 85-87 crap they blend into pump E85. So you'd actually increase the gasoline blend octane too for increased effect. I blend E98 as we don't get E85 at the pump here and it's alot cheaper with good results. It's great to see data backed analysis to help us go faster, good vid Adam!

@@BigMotorLover you are missing the point. Total timing is an average of the total timing you see in all of your cylinders. It isn't showing how much timing is being pulled. You are wanting to ensure that no timing is being pulled at all. The only way you can see that is by logging each cylinder. If you have zero timing pull in 5 cylinders and then one cylinder is -5 you then know your fuel is up to the task, but you may have an issue with a plug, coil pack or your cylinder may be cooked. Does that make more sense?

@VancityAudi

As I've mentioned multiple times in multiple videos, I do not recommend that high an ethanol content on a pump gas tune. First thing you'd do is install an ethanol content analyzer. Once that is done start off by logging the car. Then once you've seen how much timing retardation you have, work up your ethanol percentage 5% at a time. If I had to guess you'll see no more timing being pulled at around E18. There is zero point to running E31 on a pump gas tune. You'll just put unnecessary strain on your fuel system.

There isn't one answer for every car and every tune. You need to log your car. Then you need to install a content analyzer. @@ZlatanKnowsBest Your question was answered in the video so why ask it then? lol. Each car will run differently with the fuel you choose to use, the tune you are using, the wear and tear on the motor as well as its components. There is no straight forward answer to your question until you log the car and find out for yourself how it is currently running on your APR software. For all you know you are only puling a tiny bit of ignition timing and then you don't need to blend much E85 to clear it up. Then again it could be pulling a f$ck ton of timing and you'll need to add way more to correct for the lack of octane in the pump gas you are using. Okanagan MK7.5 Golf R owner here. I've seen noticeable improvements in not only the overall power, but power delivery by adding Octane to my Shell 91. Because I dont have an ethanol Analyzer, I've been using VP Octanium or Race Gas additives from Lordco, mixing to their reccommended spec for 100 octane. I've brought my best 1/4 on GPS down to 12.5 in a "stockish" R with 7 speed DSG. My question for you would be: what is better? Adding Octane or adding Ethanol? Buying E85 locally is impossible, unless we're buying it from VP in a drum, from the local hotrod shop.... where Octanium and Race Gas are available from all the Lordcos locally. Would Octane not be a safer way to correct timing pull?

In my opinion using 15% ethanol blended with Chevron 94 or Shell 91 would be WAY safer and smarter than using additives. Have you checked your spark plugs lately? When you pull them are they orange and corroded? Rather than clean? Keep in mind ethanol also has cooling properties.

@VancityAudi Жыл бұрын
@Matt Em not sure you're understanding how this works. The best way you'll be able to monitor your ethanol level is by installing the ethanol content analyzer like i showed in this video. P3 makes one for your car. If you consistently add a few gallons of ethanol into your pump gas every time you fill up, that will ensure your octane level is above 93. As you burn off the fuel and then add the same mixture to the tank once you're out of gas, you will simply maintain your ethanol content level. It won't make it any greater seeing as you're burning off the fuel in the tank in between fill ups.

California has has always sucked. We have Summer and Winter blend of 91 octane. Now our 91 has 10% ethanol already in it. Still crap.

Even with the 10% pre-blended you will see benefits of adding an additional 5 to 10% ethanol into your pump gas

It is completely safe for the fuel system and filters

So I would need about 11 liters of e85 if its rated at 65% ethanol content? E10 to E13 completely safe on stock fuel system and filters? 2015 s4 IE dual pulley 93 file, exhaust, intake, intercooler and forged lightweight wheels.

I wouldn't tell you to do it, if it wasn't safe. You have an ethanol content analyzer installed? Have you logged your car?

Confirmed. I think yours might actually be worse than Cali ACN91 based on logs I've seen.

I have heard the same. From the people I have talked to and the data I have seen we have some of the 'worst for performance' pump gas in North America.

Wtf I'm so confused. If I have a stage1+ 2017 Audi S3 and your saying if I add about 10% e85 to my tank it won't fuck my car? I thought the car needed to be tuned to take e85 ?? Also don't know how this plays any different in Australia as our fuel is fucking horrible. We run 98 octane as our performance fuel but thats probably as good as your 93 octane

The car will run better with additional E85 even on a completely stock car. Do everything I showed in the video and your car will make more power. Data log your car, install an ethanol content analyzer, test your E85, add a very small amount to get your ethanol content to E10 to E15, let the car adapt to the new fuel mixture, then data log your car again. Whatever timing pull you saw on standard pump gas should be completely gone. Enjoy the additional power
