You are correct! I'm retired Army. You bring different equipment for the needs of the mission. Sometimes small and light is all you can bring. Remember, the J Frame on you is better than the Glock you left at home.

I live just outside of San Antonio. My home is in between two high end neighborhoods. I’ve been accosted twice at the grocery store in the last year. My communication and street savvy skills from being a cop in the LA area helped me to solve the problems.

Wish you well and compliment your negotiant prowess. Luck may have played a part in your success. Perhaps your formidability and potential to render harm if assailed was sensed by the predator's instincts upon sizing you up. For decades I was a licensed armed citizen self employed in the Bronx in a cash 'n carry enterprise. While lucky to never have traded gunfire, numerous customers, competitors, and colleagues of mine were not, though most survived unharmed, some were wounded, and more than a few were killed. Those who went about unarmed were always robbed, beaten, stabbed, or shot.

The world is round. There are disadvantages to carrying a small snubnose. Just facts. There are many things people do that aren’t optimal. Some folks take in the facts and weigh the pros and cons. Some don’t. We all have our own lives, situations and circumstances. The facts you said are true. Yet I still feel comfortable carrying my Jframe from time to time. I’m just a regular dude who has a daughter I would never want to not come home to. I’m fine with my decision when I walk out the house with it.

Being a former Police Officer I can say that an air weight J-Frame rode back up on my vest. And, served as an off-duty weapon A LOT. Served me very well. But it was mainly because of the convenience due to it's size being very easily concealed no matter what I was wearing and it's weight. Still love that little pistol and I still carry it from time to time. But I do agree that your circumstances and surroundings should dictate your EDC. And not your preference. There is truth in the old adage "The Air Weight in your pocket will always be better than the 1911 you left at home". Personally, I would always rather have my Glock 19 strapped with extra mags if @#$% hit the fan. Easier to shoot, better site picture, more rounds, etc. As much as I love my .38 snubbie, I do have to admit it has limitations. And those should be taken into consideration heavily when considering it as your primary.

This I a great video. Real world situation awareness in today’s environment. For example I also have a J frame but as the world turns ugly I stared to ask myself, “ am I out gunned “. ? Once that thought came to my mind I already knew the answer. It’s great to have options. Some jobs require a small hammer for detail finish work and some jobs require a sledgehammer to break up concrete.

The amount of rounds carried shouldn't be determined by the likelihood of being in a fight; it should be *if* you are in a fight, how many rounds do you want (not need, want)? The intensity of a fight is not proportional to the likelihood of it happening. I want the best gun i can get away with carrying

Excellent points & I agree 100%. I pocket carry either a lightweight J Frame or LCP due to back & hip problems that preclude packing anything bigger or better. I’ve been in a gunfight & understand how fast things can go wrong but I practice w/my EDC and hope for the best as I go about my daily orbits.

I normally carry a G19 or G26 when out in public. I wear sloppy oversize clothes and do not carry in federal or school buildings which will put me at odds with some here. I can wear the sloppy clothes because I am retired and do not care what others think of me relative to dress. For deep concealment it would be a small 32 or 380 ACP or next step up one of the smaller single column 9's. With a double column mag fed glock, even only a 26 with red dot I am a lot more deadly than I am with a J-frame. I do have a J-frame in my pocket of wear at home blue jeans for pit vipers loaded with shot and shoot a couple each year around my place. Still carry a full 9 when out and about on my place.

The low-risk lifestyle is found in the grave, everywhere else involves people who want to put you there. I carry the J-Frame as a 2nd gun and to walk down the street to check the mail. These kinds of arguments are usually made by people who've never been in a blow out fight, had a gun pointed at them, or been busted with pipe.

A person can also get very good with their hands and train years to be lethal, but you won’t convince me that the best hand-to-hand combat practitioner is more lethal than a knife, gun, or beludgeoning weapon. You can also get proficient and deadly with a knife, but would they make the same argument that a knife is better than a gun in a combat situation because it conceals better, it’s easier to deploy and is legal in all 50 states? It’s all context based but I agree that a larger weapon will always be better in a fight than a micro gun. I appreciate the thought provoking content you put out!

To me, the modern j-frame is the Sig P365 and analogues. J frame size with double or triple the capacity and options to use modern red dots. In light of that, I keep 3 options available, a compact fighting pistol with a dot, 15+1, a modern micro 9 from the same manufacturer, also with a dot, for when circumstances dictate that a smaller gun would be advantageous, and a .32 pocket pistol for when nothing else will work. I don't really see where the j frame fits in that system, so I don't have one.

You are correct. We're often times limited by circumstances, or location when deciding what to carry. When these aren't a concern, why place these limits on yourself? I have a few J frames and I enjoy them, and yes they are often the only thing I can carry. I often carry one as a back up in my offside pocket. I ALWAYS prefer to have a larger more capable pistol on me if I can. It just makes more sense. Do I plan on getting in a gun battle, or going to war? No, but I'd rather not be caught short when I can help it. I've been carrying jumper cables for almost 50 years, every day. I have not needed to use them once for myself, but often for others. The day I don't have them, will be the day I need them...

Revolvers have been a small part of sales for over 35 years. You are either justified in your defensive shooting or you are not. Semi automatic handguns have been the main weapon of choice since the late eighties. Watch some police involved shootings to see how they react and how different people react to being shot. More criminals are working in pairs or more and will not stand still for a perfect shot. Police have been trained to fire at least three rounds to insure survival against just one person. A five round revolver is a compromise that does not need to be done with all the compact 9mm handguns on market . At least with a compact 9mm you can have more rounds available with a fast reload. A Smith and Wesson shield would be better than a revolver. A couple range sessions will have you doing well with a semi auto and it is not hard to do. This for the people who think a revolver is all they will ever need and think a semi auto is too much. I read of a case in Southern California where an off duty officer was engaged against a gunman with his 5 shot snubbie and ran out of ammo and the gunman came up to him and he was left begging for his life.

Many people live in the preconceived notion world. “I’m not going into dangerous neighborhood…if I can’t do it with five I’m in trouble…I carry a .45 because I don’t have to shoot twice…all you have to do is pump the shotgun and they’ll leave the house…revolvers are more reliable; they always bang…and so on. I’m with you Gabe. If my circumstances allow me to carry more than a J frame I’m doing it along with spare magazines. I believe trouble can happen anytime and anywhere.

Good points. You are not the only one that asks “Are you blind, it is right there in front of your eyes?” In a world where gun owners get firearms “education” from Hollywood movies, war games and social media influencers, these type of reactions and posts you got, are expected. It demonstrates just how big the market is for good, “real world”experienced and talented instructors. Now, you do what you need and want to do. There will always be people out there that will listen, learn and appreciate your work. BTW, it is said that a lot of combat veterans, at least the old timers, that would refuse to share their experience with other people and consider it a waste of time, as nobody but similar combat veterans, would comprehend what they are talking about. I find that they are right, regardless what military one served in.

Right or wrong when I put one in my pocket now it’s when I’m doing something different and it becomes backup for my 1911 constant companion. Thank You for sharing Your wisdom, it is informing and enjoyable. Also thank You for lately leaving out the F-Bombs as I am a guy in my 60s with a 12 year old son that I love to share some of this experience and wisdom with. Again Thank You
