You make perfect sense Taro. The head weighs 10 lbs and I have a long neck. I tend to walk with my chin jutting forward which puts massive pressure on my cervical spine. The pain I feel three days after expensive physiotherapy is sharp and excruciating. Thank you for your wonderful insight and advice 🙏💫

I completely agree because I have been seeing an amazing acupuncturist & massage therapist for 25 years. They constantly remind me to stretch which I always have. My pain never goes away. I would imagine the neck has to do a lot of work to hold our head all day. I need to learn how my body works❤❤

My issue is whenever I start to integrate new movement patterns, some other part of my body then just picks up the pain. In other words I correct my neck movement patterns, then my mid back starts hurting after about 3 days. I fix correct my movement patterns for my back and neck then my right knee starts getting sharp stabbing pains and it is difficult to go up and down stairs.....😫😩 I feel so hopeless and discouraged....

So, on your next video, you will show us how to correctly move the body along with the neck when we move our head? It would be clearer to us. I remember a year ago, you demonstrated that moving the hips when sitting on the chair will strengthen the legs. If the hips are not involved, the legs become weak. I did that exercise and found out that you were correct, that the hips hold the strength of the legs. I lost that video. Trying to find it. . So, we need to involve all the parts of our body to work together all parts of body to be stronger. Don't isolate one part. Hey, we are all one. Our body, our people, our Universe. Interesting video, teacher. Thank you for explaining.
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 5 ай бұрын
i may have mentioned that I will cover that in the next videos, but I actually have another video next week :) Well, all my videos teach integrated movement, and all my hip videos are about the relationship between hips and all other parts, and all my neck videos are about the relationship between neck and all other parts. It's about connection and relationship, and it's about learning how to improve those relationships through movement retraining. You can think that your pelvis/hips is a part of your neck, so you can move your neck and head from your hips. Of course what connects your head and pelvis and hips is your spine. Try exploring moving your neck and head from your hips in many functional activities. That is a real movement practice!

@@TaroIwamotothe whole concept (that I've never really heard anybody talk about before) of habitual movement and becoming aware of that and working backwards in a sense to learn more of the root of the issue with the goal being integration
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 5 ай бұрын
@@mistifa2908 glad you found this idea interesting. to me, the norm, or common belief about our body and how we should work with our body is artificial and backwards. we prescribe correction and fixing based on our atanomical understanding, not based on how we naturally function, so we are used to imposing preconceived ideas onto our bodies. we purely view our bodies mechanically and try to fix our bodies mechanically. what we don't often realize is that our nervous system is influecing our bodies, and movement patterns. so connecting with our body and learning about our body and how we are moving is really important to change the underlying conditions. that is awareness :)

I think it should be mentioned that posture depends on emotions. I’d argue that in current society chronically bad posture is a sign of repressed emotions… which may be related with memories of interpersonal relationships. Yes, it’s crucial to RECONNECT with “the body”. That is, with the emotional level. I’m not advocating cathartic expressions. Rather a gradual re-cognition of such feelings and memories, to be reintegrated in functional patterns.

One of my problems is tension, from my marriage, will your way help me if I’m under stress. I’ve just gone through 5 months of PROLOTHERAPY on my neck and shoulders, which really did help, but in the past 4 months I’ve hurt myself twice, once on a huge wave crashing me to the ground, and just recently I slipped and almost fell but caught myself and it felt like whiplash again. I’m now suffering from pain when I take a deep breath when I’m lying down in bed. Any comment.

So when I move my head the thoracic spine and more has to be involved?
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 5 ай бұрын
it's not that it has to move. First, you become aware how you are moving habitually, and invite more parts of your body, yourself into movement so you integrate more parts of yourself into functional movements = less stress to your neck.

Is any of the integration movement helped or should be prevented if one has identified stenosis and arthritis in that same cervical area?
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 4 ай бұрын
integration means movement is distributed more evenly through the entire body, so less movement where you have stenosis and arthritis, but because you habitually move more from that area, it's much easier to move from the area, so you have to pay close attention to how you move and you learn to re-distribute movement to reduce stress to the area. does that help?

I have severe arthritis in neck but also craniocervical instability caused by a viral infection in 1996 that has caused mast Cell Activation. Not sure this is safe for me.
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 5 ай бұрын
if you have upper cervical instability, it's a good idea to consult with your doctor first. But, to give you a broad perspective on the issue, when you don't integrate all parts of your body in functional activities, you move through certain parts a lot while you hardly move through certain parts. Overtime the areas you move a lot become hypermobile and can become unstable, whereas the areas you hardly move become hypomobile and can become stiff, immobile. Hypermobility and hypomobility are closely related to each other.

@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 5 ай бұрын
that is very much related to this video. as you watch this video, please don't focus on the "label", but listen to the core principles I am sharing in this video, then you can understand a relationship between your movement patterns and your "cervical hump". Please don't think of "cervical hump" as a faulty structure that needs mechanical fixing, but rather think of it as a reflection of your habitual movement patterns. Then, you'll start to get a much broader view on your condition, and understand how you can improve.
