"your love for reading is not tied to how much you read, but how much you enjoy it" I LOVE this sentiment!! Especially when we see so many people reading 10+ books a month. You really hit the nail on the head here

omg THANK YOU for talking about how your love for reading does not equate to how many books you read. it's so easy to get caught up with numbers, especially on booktube. it's reassuring to hear!!!

Your vlogs are so aesthetically pleasing and cozy! I love them! I really like how you tell us what you're doing and your art! I think if you just keep doing what makes you happy for these vlogs we will all still really enjoy them! Also props to you for going to a dance class like that. That took guts!

Same, same same 🙌🏾, i also notices that i also have guilt about changing a book, yesterday i put a post on my instagram about a book i was going to read for the backlistreadathon , 10 minuttes in it, i changed my mind a read what i just feel like reading, but i did feel a little shame about it, like im not allowed to change my mind, a realise how many rules i sometime put on reading, when its just suppose to be a fun hobby. So im trying no rule this month, and slowly ride of guilt and shame, when i dont read X amount books a month or week.

We were just talking about this with a classmate of mine, how we kinda want to read more and almost are too stern with ourselves when we don't do that. I also feel that, in some occations, the readers are pressured (I don't know by who) to read faster and more, without actually enjoying the book we are currently going through. Just finish it up already and move to next one... I mean, it's fine if you are fast reader or you had a good reading month etc. but you can definitely take it slowly also. That is your right, as a reader.

I'm a little sad that you're not enjoying 1984 but there are some other earlier dystopians that might feel less generic; We by Yevgeny Zamyatin and Kallocain by Karin Boye both have *something else* thrown in. They don't get enough love I think. Really enjoying these vlogs btw!

I really appreciate that last point you made that it's not about how many books you read justifies you as intellectual or smart..other book enthusiasts have gone too far in making people feel guilty and shame for not reading up to the astronomical standard they set...even some of them get aggressive that you feel like..sh!t they gonna crucify you if you do not read 100 books a day.

Can you provide a recommendation as to what, in your opinion, is the best modern dystopian novel ? I am looking for a good cerebral "read" in that genere .....that is so good that you just hate to put down, etc. Any suggestions ? I liked "A Handmaid's Tale", and also "The Teststaments". But, didn't consider either one of them to be phenomenal.

First of all I'm so happy you've started uploading more regularly so lovely to see you :) something I find people forget while reading 1984 is that while being dystopian it took inspiration from socialist Russia, so it's crazy to think that a lot of the shitty government things that happen here were a reality to some people back in the day

yes I noticed that too! It also kind of reminded me of north korea so it's almost like a prediction of the future

I loved If We Were Villains, but the sexy in 1984 was too much for me and I had to DNF. I feel like the length of Villians was used to really build up to the ending, so I wouldn't delete anything, but to each their own.

Rainy days are mood tbh, and btw since I'm new here, are you interested in reading a novel manuscript? I'm currently writing a fantasy novel atm and having a beta reader to discuss about the development of novels like worldbuilding and characters and the plot would be a blessing. If it sounds boring, it's alright, but if you're interested, I could send you the first few chapters to see if you wanna continue or not. Dankje in advance!

the thing that really made me get interested in 1984 is how flawed our point of view is. the lack of romantic language, the objectification of women, the self-aggrandization, all of it, points out how flawed Winston is as a person and why, ultimately, **SPOILER ALERT** he fails in disrupting the authoritarian government.
@seopark74674 жыл бұрын
also also, I have a HUGE reading guilt type thing, because I inherently tied my identity to being a "reader" and a "literary" person, I die a little inside every time I look at what page I'm at. I'm desperately trying to accept myself as I am, and to remind myself that I am busy and that the other things I'm doing are valid. Loved this video and loved the message!
