I'm not gonna lie, this video was inspired by both my reflective essay for my Master's and Mecha Gaikotsu's self-expose video, so that I may find closure in the chaos. Glad you popped by and appreciate the effort. Though fingers crossed for my Master's final essay, as I'm still waiting for my results as of this comment.

This is unironically a really cool video. I can’t think of any other KZbinr in the hobby who cares so deeply as to not only acknowledge the minor mistakes in past reviews, but use it as an opportunity for reflection and growth. This is a great message on how to manage mental health too, and something that I wish was talked about more often. You make fantastic content MJ. Excited for this next chapter for you, both personally and as a Gunpla content creator 🙌

I stress about the hobby and my integrity because I care immensely about what I put out and how I help out in the hobby. It's unhealthy when it becomes an obsession, but there's a virtue in that. Also, thank my Master's for inspiring me to do this in the first place. Let the next arc commence

Precisely what motivated me to make this video in the first place, to reflect upon the anomaly and move on from it so as to do a better job in the future. I'm still trying to get used to the UK, especially having been hurt to the point I need to be medicated, but I'm hoping that I find my place here soon. Cheers to you.

Yep this is the exact reason MJ's my favourite reviewer. Covers in at least half if not up to 1/5 the time the exact same things if not more that are covered in anyone else's video. Not to mention taking the time to go back and correct any mistakes, no matter how minor!

Your courage to self review yourself, point out all the issues, and document your findings is truly an impressive effort. To echo your point 1, have confidence in yourself. I watch 3/4 reviewers on average for whatever kits that come out, not just because i want the info (im not buying most kits anyways), but also because the content is of high quality, be it you, the skeleton you spoke of, or some zaku that makes content at a leisurely pace.

Kudos to you MJ for doing this. And while the mistakes that you've pointed out in this video can easily be overlooked, it still is a nice thing that you're willing to acknowledge and reflect on them, instead of just letting it be. Also, let me say (again) that I'm really a fan of your Gunpla reviews. You really keep things as accurate and objective as possible. Mistakes always been made no matter how careful we are. We always appreciate your efforts on updates and addressing mishaps in the previous videos. As a fellow hobbyist, I can relate when it comes ro reversed assembly and somewhat blaming the illustration of the manual or just we are too focused on which part numbers indicated for assembly hence those mistakes. My biggest sin in gunpla is how I missed the swivel joints in my RG Nu Gundam and I accidentally threw the runner away without checking the manual until I realized something's missing with my weapon holding hands... Since then, my Nu has no way to hold its beam sabers and the bazooka... No matter how much I read the manual many times before assembling a kit, I always suffered from the lack of awareness. I hope you're doing well out there and look forward for more reviews in the future!
@mj2005gundam
@mj2005gundam Ай бұрын
That is a massive ouch from me. I accidentally threw out the Hambrabi's beam sabers as well, and was forced to sculpt them with sprues and putty while buying a duplicate for the review. Mistakes are bound to happen, yes, but in those 15 instances I think it's with a lack of prevention. I have no guarantees that I'd perfectly fix my working patterns, but when it happens, I know that I'd have tried my best to prevent them with the lessons I've learned.

First, congrats on getting where you are in your studies and I wish you the best on the results of your Master's. I know from my bachelor's that academia is rough. Going back to correct what few, small errors you may have in your videos is already extremely appreciated, and finding lessons to drive your future years of life forward from it is frankly inspirational. You are my favorite youtuber in the gunpla sphere, and your professional but passionate demeanor is a huge part of that, being on the spectrum myself I get overwhelmed by videos that feel too disorganized or forcedly-high energy. A small detail that I immensely appreciate is that you clearly demarcate when you've switched from a snap-built kit to your final painted model, seeing as I'm a beginner whose builds will be closer to the former. Good luck MJ, both as a youtuber and life in general. Will be patiently awaiting to see what you produce, and I thank you in advance for it. Also hope you're having a blast with GB4- hope to do so myself at some point in the future.

I know the feeling of living in another country like that I spent one year in Belgium for my studies and despite speaking the same language as the people there were a lot of stuff to adjust to while I was there in that time and did had a massively problem with depression. Gunpla communities seem limited to the larger cities here in the UK, which isn't where I'm staying nor where my family and I would end up during our move to our new house. On top of that, virtual groups can only satiate our primal need for social activity for so much, so I agree that I need to go out more. I've been trying my best but that's been stressing me out way too much. I'm taking a step back so that I don't lose more than I already have, and trusting that friends will come in due time.

This video just cements my opinion on you. KEEP. UP. THE. GOOD. WORK! Just a minor nitpick: don't even compare yourself to Gaikotsu. That guy doesn't even hold a candle to you. Views don't mean shit compared to your quality.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I hold myself to a high standard not only because I grew up with it, but I want to also be the best reviewer I can be since I love to help people with stuff I have knowledge in. About the nitpick though, the comparisons with MGK isn't meant to be about views, it's just to cite my sources about upload dates and prove that my content can stand on merit alone despite not being the first to the punch. If my content can garner the numbers they did, even when working against a giant in the algorithm, then it's even more proof that my worries are unfounded, so I should take my time with my content to make them as good as it can be.

Also, on the G-Defenser topic: the back thrusters should be painted red on the inside and the long upper thrusters (casted in gray) should have the back painted white according to the pictures of the manual. But it's okay if you miss some of those minor details on a kit, it just happens, man. When I build that G-Defenser's Long Rifle, I somehow forgot to put the grip for the weapon, so I had to take it apart to actually place it. It wasn't pleasant, but it makes me chuckle nowadays. So don't worry about those mistakes too much, they happen from time to time. And also: there's some black missing on the Flying Armor's wings, Bandai didn't provided stickers for those. Please don't be mad.

Bleh. I did my best looking for references at the time, so I'm over missing paint details. (totally not me thinking that inner thruster colors aren't important at the time, but that was over a year ago). It's good to own up to your mistakes, but IMO you might be taking these reflections too seriously? I mean, I get you what to be the most informative, correct, and thorough, but you're bound to miss things here and there zooming thru kits, painting & coating them, AND doing all the review scripting & camera work to boot... ALL ON TOP OF real life stuff as well, such as your move, Masters, and the new environment. And we all know how the algorithm gets fickle when creators slow down (which is a good thing that I'm subbed & belled.) All that is to say, I'm glad like everyone else you're reflecting and being up front about it. But IMO this could have been a series of community post, which takes less work. And you could have spent the time resting or treating yourself. God know we're turning ourselves into a burnout society. You're bound to make more mistakes anyway. Don't be too hard on yourself, MJ, & take care. o7
@mj2005gundam

Doing too much good isn't one thing I'd own up to. Besides, I blame my Masters for motivating me to do this video, as journaling and consciously reflecting on mistakes is a proactive way to learn from the past, by taking direct action and having a constant reminder of what came before. Besides, I acknowledge that zooming through kits is harmful to both the integrity of the video and my mental state, so from now on I'm gonna be taking my time with each video and not worrying about coming first in order to make the best and most accurate content possible. Also, making this a video not only satisfies my itch of demonstrating the features and stuff on video (as I absorb information better through videos rather than images), but also forces me into an active role when taking accountability for them, serving as a constant reminder of what not to do. Sure, I might slip up here and there in the future, but then there's no excuse for me not to be more careful now that my Master's course is over. Besides, this video gives me closure on videos from the past year, so that I can at least put one of my many stressors to rest in order to recuperate better. Cheers for popping by anyway.
