Colleen!! Can I please just say that as an optician of 18 years, it is SO wonderful to hear you encourage Erik to care for his eyes!! Get the sunnies, get yourself a backup pair, start small. It’s an investment, an important one, and I cannot tell you how disheartening it is when I witness people make their partners feel shitty or shame them for the cost of their vision needs. It’s my Ick, for sure. People, please encourage your people to care for themselves in this way! Love to see, thank you!!

to erik: i’ve been wearing glasses since i was 12, the headache only last the first week, i’ve never been mad at no one for wearing glasses even though they didn’t need them, they are a really cute accessory (and many times when i feel like hiding//shy in social settings i feel grateful i have them) the idea of there’s not coming back it’s super normal, but at some point you realize that no one is seeing the same way as you and that’s kinda fun, after wearing them for a while you forget you even have them, and you’ll go through phases with the glasses they’ll be times you hate them, they’ll be time you love them, right now i’m on a phase of going out and not wearing them, i take them with me but i don’t use them unless i need to. i understand the initial frustration about it but at some point you’ll forget you have them, relax ♡

i really relate to how erik feels! i got glasses in high school because i sat in the front of the class yet all the writing on the whiteboard was slightly blurry. all lights, especially at night, were blurry too. like they had spikes coming out of every side if that makes sense. i got a bad headache when i started wearing glasses, especially because my eyes would focus on the frames instead of whats in front of me. it goes away after a while. i dont wear glasses everyday now, i just wear them when driving at night. i hope you find your balance soon:) you really dont even notice them after a while. for sunglasses you can always get transitional lenses! they turn into sunglasses in the sun, my boyfriend loves them. also lens crafters is really fast with making glasses

To Erik regarding the glasses: I couldn’t agree more with your glasses saga. I first learned I needed the ~HD~ effect when I couldn’t really see projections well in a classroom setting. When I went to get my eyes checked they said my prescription isn’t super strong but I have an astigmatism and they don’t blame me for wanting them and how it would be worth it. It was also the first time I learned that people don’t struggle at night to look at lights. I now don’t feel comfortable driving at night without them. World of difference. Think of it as a blessing! Get stylish, go crazy. Try many styles or regular frames and then ones for sunglasses. Go crazy.

I literally thought my life was over, but 5 years later l'm still going, my drops still work and my eyes have been doing great at every checkup. No worsening for the last few years either It sucks to have to rely on glasses to see but some people have it worse than us, so I'm very thankful that at least my vision can still be corrected 😃 Your glasses look great Erik, don't be scared or ashamed of anything, you need them to see now and that's ok! Why would people want to deny themselves that joy? Are they too cool for it or their parents shamed them at one point? If so, that just sad because being a child at heart is joyful

As a glasses wearer since age 2, I am not at all insulted by glasses as fashion accessories! I'm fortunate that in Ontario, I have benefits that cover the cost of one new pair of glasses/ prescription sunglasses every two years. Growing up, my parents benefits covered glasses the same way. I wore contacts from grade 6 through to University when I had to stop. The contacts were so thick due to my stigmatism and intense prescription that a blood vessel was growing and would permanently be in my line of vision if I didn't stop wearing them. Fast forwards to post University and I learned I don't qualify for Lasik. The shape my eye with my stigmatism is not conductive to Lasik. Next up, a world class eye surgeon from Toronto was ready to place permanent contacts in my eyes to correct my vision. Those lenses are so hard to get, we're still waiting 3 years later for them from Germany. I'm not sure it'll ever happen. Until then, I try not to get annoyed at rain and snow drops on my glasses daily, smudges from kid hands, and the constant switching of glasses and prescription sunglasses. I'm grateful that I CAN see!

Few things from someone who has been wearing glasses for more than 20 years: - glasses will be something like a maintenance meds, you need to wear them most of the time otherwise your grade will go worse over time. I think it took me at least 5-7 years before my grade went up, and the only reason why it went up was because my frame broke and I have to wait for a while before I could replace it. that small window of me not having my glasses on increased my grade. - contact lenses actually takes more effort to use than glasses. at one point, I got tired of glasses that I switched to lenses. there were days where I forgot to take them off to clean them. you can't sleep with them on or they could go inside your eye socket. - I have a small nose bridge, so there is no frame out there that fits my face well. my glasses always go down my face because of it. as the glasses will be with you forever, just embrace it and find frames that could even be stylish. I have 4 frames now, one for work, one for regular use, one for exercise and one that has tinted lens that I use kind of like shades. also, carrots don't help with your eyesight. that's just a hoax made during the war.

Trust me never thought i would be one to wear contacts, but I never had anything wrong with my eyes nor braces for my teeth, never even broken a bone in body growing up. Then 35 hits and they say my astigmatism in both eyes are so bad I could never wear contacts. Well I found a doctor that let me try different contacts on and I feel like I'm a normal person again. But before I got good contacts I wore eye glasses. I know how you feel going from Never wearing glasses to having to wear them all the time is a big change. Hang in there get some good contacts. Daily's are the Best!

I have had glasses my whole life and my 3 year old has had them for a year. I would NEVER take offence to someone accessorising with glasses. If anything, it’s flattering. I was made fun of for them in school and as an adult people wearing them when they don’t need them makes me chuckle and happy. Also, HOW ANNOYING ARE THEY! I love hearing from someone experiencing this as an adult. I remember realising trees had leaves when I got mine. I only wore contacts as a teenager because I played sports but it feels like too much as an adult. Also, there are cheap glasses sites online that you can try on for free that are $99. I got my first pair of prescription sunglasses this year and they are amazing! It’s so worth it. Welcome to the club! 🎉❤

Eric had an enlightened understanding that glasses are necessary medical device for most of those wearing them:)

That is exactly how I feel when I get a new prescription! It is like seeing in HD! As far as the Disney thing, maybe it is because you didn't watch a bunch of the movies growing up? Because I grew up on the east coast as well, not close to WDW and still loved Disney. Great episode, love laughing along

Having glasses all my life it feels unreal not having them, like a part of me is literally missing. There are times where taking them off feels better but I can’t go more than 30 minutes without them, especially after my recent eye surgery and finally getting my eye sight back, my glasses are my life lol

Hi Erik! I usually listen to your guys podcast to sleep but I couldn’t sleep without addressing your glasses dilemma because I could tell you felt really bad! I’ve had astigmatism basically my entire life and even I would buy fake glasses because I thought they were cool looking & my insurance only covered ugly looking glasses😂 (of course I would just struggle with not seeing but during that time I rather look cute than be able to see haha!) Also I had heard that carrots are good for your eye sight so one day I ate 2 extra large bags of carrots in one setting (hoping it would cure my astigmatism) and ended up overdosing in vitamins (woke up in the middle of the night throwing up carrot & had red dots all over my face that didn’t go away for 2 weeks) In conclusion: it is completely okay to feel how you feel! And you’ve never offended someone just because you wore fake glasses. If anyone is offended by that they probably have nothing else to do! 😂

I loved when you guys would do acting scenes even the fan fiction. It’s fun and I wish I could do that with my partner but I bust out laughing😂
