I didn't watch the match and was hoping someone could answer this. Why did the match go 3 minutes over the allocated 7 minutes of added time? The only reason for that would be a fairly large amont of added time during added time.

There was a 40 second delay at the start of stoppage time due a collision between two players and some confusion about the restart location, then Adelaide wasted 2 minutes after their goal in stoppage time with their celebrations and deciding to make a sub after everyone was ready but before it kicked off again and at 97:30 minutes they wasted another 45 seconds delaying a restart after a foul their way. Add that all up and you get well over 3 minutes wasted time. So 2 minutes added onto the end of stoppage time when Auckland scored was perfectly acceptable.

Ref factored stoppages and time wasting. The last 90 secs was due to a goal kick that was kicked out (pivotal moment that highlights should have showed) giving Auckland possession in their final third and given it was a final attack the ref played on and they got a corner last kick of the game. I'm not sure of the legality behind this though.

​@@KMD10_ The rules only require that the ref play up to the amount of additional time the ref decides on. They can blow full time immediately once that happens (which can be after 45 minutes if they decide there wasn't any added time needed). After that minimum it's all up to the ref again as part of the "allowance for time lost" part of the rules (time wasting, subs, injury issues, var, celebrations).

Just my opinion but it's really not enough to be called for a foul. Footballers tug each others shirt all the time and don't get called up for it. If they were given fouls everytime a shirt was pulled the sport would be even softer than it already is. Besides that shirt pull is nowhere near enough for Elliot to fall flat on the ground like that. He knew he wasn't going to stop Dukuly from getting past him, felt his shirt being pulled and took the hit hoping he would get a free kick. His own fault really.

Referee/VAR team ruined the match. When running at speed, even the slightest of shirt tugs is likely to slow the opponent down and cause them to fall. VAR team a disgrace!
