Four years later this still is so powerful it makes me cry. She had the guts to say exactly what needed to be said, at a moment when she should have in all rights been allowed to shine because her album was great! It just wasn’t Lemonade. The people who have a problem with her saying "my black friends" don't understand why she said that. Lemonade is an unapologetic celebration of black culture, specifically black woman, and to a lot in the community it's an important album that gives them joy and solace in times where prejudice is rampant in our culture and politics. That album shed light to a community that is disenfranchised and Adele acknowledge that and its importance. If that makes you feel uncomfortable, maybe Adele isn't the problem but you are.

Look at the context it was said in, what she was referring to, and how much it meant to her (regardless if they perceive it to be an act or not, they're strung up on the words said). As a Liberal, some of us REALLY need to stop this. By doing so, as often as we do, we add fuel to the fire of the you-know-who supporters out there.

I think Adele also had similar feelings/experiences when she listened to Beyonce's album. I think Adele being a mom and having relationship problems made her resonate so much with Lemonade because that album was basically a chronicle of pain, betrayal, and loving oneself again after all that. We know Adele has felt lost ever since 21 came out and that Lemonade album must have been some form of catharsis or a perfect portrayal of how she felt but couldn't explain in words.

I can’t watch this without crying. Beyoncé really deserved that award. She worked so hard on her lemonade album only for the Grammys to snubbed her not once but twice. She should’ve won for lemonade and her self titled album Beyoncé. I like Adele but let’s be honest she makes the same album year after year, they all sound the same. Lemonade is a masterpiece, Beyoncé show us another side to her, it was on a personal level. Beyoncé is the hardest working woman in the music industry, her work ethic speaks for itself. When it comes to the stage nobody can compare, Beyoncé will always remain untouchable. She’s a game changer, she’s the first and only artist to drop a album without any promo she just dropped it. People are still trying to find out how Beyoncé dropped her secret album, professors even made a course about Beyoncé and how she dropped her album. A lot artist tried to copy but failed. @@dontmindme5163 It's awesome that Adele writes all of her songs, but it's not fair to hold Beyoncé's collaborative nature against her. She's the kind of artist who begins and ends with her own vision, but integrates the contributions of her colleagues all along the way. It's just as admirable as writing an entire album by yourself. That said, I think lemonade was a more impressive work of art overall. It told an amazing story about how America's legacy of racism and oppression contributed to her "inherited" understanding of marriage. The album transcended genre (don't even get me STARTED on how Daddy's Lessons wasn't nominated for best country song) and spoke to an entire generation's experience. 25 was amazing, but in ten years, Lemonade's legacy will burn far brighter IMO

I agree, my thoughts were that Beyoncé really was very disappointed for not winning for an album not only they felt so emotionally attached to, but for something they knew in their heart, that this is their own personal best. I felt bad seeing Beyoncé lose after putting their all into something to realize that it was not enough to be acknowledged by her musical peers. But I think Adele’s personally acknowledgment to Lemonade had definitely cushion the blow Beyoncé felt that night. Her sadness quickly turned to happiness.

Ahmed Gautier I remember when Kanye disrespected Taylor Swift while she tried to accept her award, but I don't remember Beyoncé standing up and saying anything. She just smiled like Kanye was so cute. Regarding this episode, Adele is a self-loathing white person, trying to look benevolent from her privileged perch. Is this what the Liberals have been wanting for white people to do... just hand anything they earn over to a black people because they are not worthy? And finally only then will white people be "okay". Personally, I think black people are perfectly capable of earning their own awards without having to have them handed over by a white person. Beyoncé will always remember this award as the one she really didn't win. What Adele did was reverse-reverse racism and she does not deserve the Grammy if she doesn't believe she does. She is the epitome of how twisted the liberal ideology is... white bad, ethnic good. It will be a surprise if Adele is ever offered a Grammy again. No doubt she'll be a presenter.

@colinpsykes

I know she’s the 2nd most award-winning female musician and performer in Grammy history. (This factoring in the recognition of her work as but one member of trio Destiny’s Child, her duets and records/performances collaborating with other entertainers, and of course, her solo work.) But it seems like they crowned her for excellence in a time where she was very much embodying a feminist/womanist perspective, but not yet overtly and regularly espousing those progressive views so explicitly. She was successful, but was not yet a mogul with ownership of and profit participation in such major considerations as TIDAL. She was a celebrated black public figure, and indeed, proud to be one, but her embrace of her own personal history as a black American girl and of greater American black culture at large was not as central to her work as it’s become. So it almost feels like the message is, you can be a sexy girl, but not a sexually explicit-sometimes down-right erotic, in her artistic expression-adult woman. You can be proudly black, but you can’t be overtly PRO-black and activist in your views. You can be successful and get rich, but you can’t build an empire and take literal ownership of the industry your career has come to represent. You can refer to, or hint at, even exploit on our live stage (thank you very much), your highly-publicised relationship. But you can’t bare your soul and acknowledge all the complexities that connection has brought to The direction she has been taken since 4, with Self-Titled, and especially with Lemonade, has proven to me that she’s getting better and better all the time, and I’m right to like her more than before, not less. But the academy is sending the opposite message.

People in the comment section should be grateful that Adele was humble enough to credit Beyoncé. But, Adele deserves this award too. 25 sold more records than Lemonade. 'Hello' was the fastest song on KZbin to reach 1B views. And dethroned Taylor's record for most viewed video on KZbin in 24 hours. I bet if Beyoncé won, she wouldn't thank Adele this way! So, thank god for Adele.

Adele is amazing. Well deserving of the award as well as Beyoncé was. People need to realize that awards and Grammys don't define the impact and success of an artist. So many legendary artist Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna, etc all have very little Grammys. Maybe 5 each. Beyoncé has 22 Grammys and that's amazing. Losing one that she deserves doesn't mean Lemondae wasn't a great and impactful album. People will forget about the Grammy but NO ONE will forget the music! Keep slaying Queen Bey and Adele. Much love to all the nominees.

I think Lemonade is more of a black supremacist album tbh. 25 is more about racial equality, since no matter what race you are Adele's album means and is the same. Beyonce's album, on the other hand, is inherently designed to make white people feel guilty and ashamed and to boost the confidence of black girls.

People keep saying this was a white guilt thing. I think this is beautiful. To me it's one woman that sees this other powerful, beautiful woman and has so much freaking respect because she's in that same place. They're both moms and amazing artists and I think that's why Adele connects with Beyoncé so much. Stop making every thing so freaking negative and accept the fact that some people are just genuinely good inside.

Jenna Williams It's not white guilt but Adele is pandering to sjw Virtu signaling. look how nice I am to black people. I have black friends. please accept me as one of your own. It's pathetic. This is why sjw's are racist they bring up and parade the fact that they have black friends so they can appear tolerant. Adele is pathetic. lost all respect for her. you don't use black people as a political tool or a way of looking virtuas.
@jennawilliams9633
@jennawilliams9633 7 жыл бұрын
The last centurion I would agree with you if I thought she was bragging or parading that about but there are people out there that are just simply tolerant. Adele has been known to show tolerance and compassion before. She wasn't wrong in saying that Beyoncé has helped her black friends because Beyoncé has always empowered black people, especially women. She was literally just telling the truth and that she appreciates Beyoncé and all that she does for poc. I didn't see any parading or bragging in this. I saw a woman that said "hey, I won this, and I'm so thankful, but I don't feel like the winner because Beyoncé had the better album to me. And not only does she make me feel powerful, but she makes women of color feel powerful even though most of the world tells them they're not." But I can see why you think what you do. To each is own.

Whether you like Beyoncé or not she has really stayed true to her dream/her vision and has become the absolute best at her craft and stilll reaches for new heights! She truly deserves the praise.
