Sounds awful, fish guts is bad enough but fish guts and cheese ehhh, fish and cheese is a horrible flavor combo unless it's a deep fried version of fish then the breading kinda make is semi doable. Maybe that's just me though. Honestly though most Japanese food looks amazing this is by far the most nasty thing i have ever seen there, other than maybe still alive squid being dipped in sauce and eaten that's pretty bad.

You didn't use the most delicious way to "scoof"the monjayaki, actually. You should first press it with the little "shovel" than turn 180 degree, from the pressing movement you can make a layer of "crust", which tastes wonderful.

What is it made from? I mean, I understand that the liquid thing in the centre is an egg with maybe some milk, but what are the other things that the girl put on the table (the black one, green bits and so on)? Cause actually it's looking like a petroleum with bits of a chinese cabbage.

I wonder how squid ink tastes have any of you tried it because they say squid and eggs in pancakes tastes amazing so I would imagine this not tasting half bad! Wish he would've told us how it tasted or what was in it though!

Most Monjayaki is cabbage based with a Dashi and flour broth liquid, the flour thickens the Dashi and that is why it looks like melted cheese in texture. But Monjayaki is a good way to use up left over ingredients. I've seen Shrimp, Salmon Roe, Cod Roe Tofu, Corn, Scallops, loads of stuff in Monjayaki.

That is the first thing I've seen of Japanese food that did not look appealing, mostly because of the scraping way you had to eat it. I'm down to try it though! I didn't have a single thing during my trip that wasn't delicious, even from vending machines and 7-11.
