One important point you forgot to mention is "cold settings", meaning run the overhead when the engine is completely cool, room temperature, not after you ran all day and want to get it done so you can have the weekend off,, you know what I mean,, Thanks for all the great videos, people would save a lot of money by subscribing to your channel, and if a tool cost a hundred dollars just buy it,, you'll pay more than that to pay somebody to do the job and you have the tool forever, that's a no-brainer to me Thanks again, you saved me thousands with all the information you give out

Good video, my pinning hole was wobbled out, I asked a few guys about that and they figured someone started it with the pinning tool or bolt in it after the adjusted it, so I took the timing cover off because it could be off a tooth on either side, I always get the fun ones lol

That sucks, we had an apprentice so that a couple weeks ago. Luckily the bolt didn't break, it bent the pinning bolt into an S shape, but it came out with no damage to the engine.

Hats off , I watched the video and read comments, and found answer to my problem.. c-15 mxs oil pressure runs from 40 psi to 60 psi depending on RPM 1200 = 40 psi 190degree temp each 100 rpm increase 5 psi in oil pressure It's Kenworth 06. I need oil pump or something else , i ask CAT dealer at last service they said CAT has no set oil PSI could be anywhere 40 to 80 psi but when i found concept u showed main bearings then question is why my oil psi is changing according to RPMs and engine temp , NO Contamination oil sample is good.. please advise

I have injector height tool, but find it more accurate to put injector at full downward plunge then adjust injector needle to bottom out and back off 3/4 turn, on detroit 60. I do this because I'm concerned about differences in the block and compression of the bottom graphite gasket carbon sealer, and injectors

Thanks for the comment. A 2WS should be very similar as the engine in this video. Hope you have success. Inspect your camshaft too while you have the valve covers off if you have a rough running engine.

It is suppose to be set to a 550hp. My father has had the truck for 9 years now and the overhead has not been done. Can that be causing these issues?

Yes and thanks for the help.I'm struggling to remove that base cause of the Iva's housing it's completely loose oil bridges and oil supply line just can't pull it out and I don't want to remove Iva's housing because I read some where I can loose the rods on the iva's falling into the engine.any advice?

+Jaime Garcia Well if you have the oil line and bridges off it should come off. Maybe a dumb question, but have you disconnected the injector wiring from the injectors? The IVA housings are fairly easy to remove, there are no little rods in the housings just a bolt and six nuts. They may be referring to the solenoid Torx bolts, but you don't have to remove them to get the housings off. Maybe just pull the housing off for cylinders 1&2 to make it clear. Wish I was there to help out.

+2010panel The wiring for all the RV inputs run into your P1 connector going to the ECM, so it should connect right to the ECM. Some parameters might have to be programmed, but the wiring shouldn't change.

Hello, fantastic instruction! I have a q in regards to jake adj. I am in he process of an inframe on my 3406E 5ek. I have a factory manual and read the adj for 340A jake. The manual mentions the same adj you post but then mentions tightening the adjuster another full turn to bleed oil?? Then backing off to reset the adjuster? What type of paint stick are you using for your "torque stripe"? Thank you!!

+Matthew Frederick You can bleed the fluid by going past the initial setting. You basically just go past to purge the oil then set it to the specification. The paint pen is a Brite-Mark and they make them in a ton of different colors.

+Arianit Iseni It is a good idea to adjust the valves if you remove the rocker arms because the clearances probably changed by removing and reinstalling them. You don't have to do it, but it is a good idea. You can also do just the ones you removed, since you did cylinders one and two, you could just do those adjustments.

+Tonya Forshee A Ford engine question eh, okay yes having the engine oil overfilled can cause more oil to be pushed out of the blowby tube. Since you are going to change the oil, go ahead and do that first, then see if that helps. If it doesn't then, more troubleshooting needs to be done.

+Tonya Forshee That is pretty good. As you increase the engine speed the oil pump spins faster and your get higher engine oil pressure. As the engine runs your oil pressure will drop as it gets thinner and hotter. What oil weight did you end up putting in there?

Remove the rocker shafts the all the valves will be closed and you can rotate the cam timing mark to line up with the crank shaft.

Thanks for the great video. I got a little lost on the injector. Didn't get what you mean top bottom ledge. I have a 3406 5EK model. If I let my truck sit for 3 days and I go to start it I get lots of white smoke. I don't lose water but have notice my truck overheating. I started my truck run it for 15 or 20 minutes and did a temp check on the exhaust per cylinder and cylinder 1 was at 150 degrees the rest were at 170 and cylinder 4 was at 205. Could it be a bad injector. Thanks in advance

+imoraless The injector part can be confusing without seeing it in person. Your cylinder temps are going to be cooler typically on the front of the engine and hotter in the middle, its hard to troubleshoot with an exhaust manifold. If you are overheating and smoking, have you done the Bottle test? I have a video how to do it and it is easy, it checks for a cracked head or head gasket. Give that a try before anything else.

Adept Ape truck only smokes when it sits for 3 days or more and I can smell the diesel. When it overheats the truck don't smoke nor I lose any water. A cat mechanic told me it could be bad injectors. They were put in in 2004 when truck was upgraded to a 550hp

Hmmmmm, the plot thickens. Well if it only smokes after it sits that, could be a leaking injector, those are fairly common, hard to identify without pulling the exhaust manifold though and then starting it and seeing which hole it is. The injector leak shouldn't be causing the truck to overheat though. I would do the bottle test anyways and see what you find. If not, overheats can be lots of things, fan, radiator, etc. I'm sure you know that part already though.

+Jaime Garcia So I'm guessing you are removing the valve cover base, the IVA housings actually bolt to the valve cover base with their oil bridges, and you have the oil supply line to it at the rear and it can be hard to remove with the IVA housings still on sometimes especially by the number one cylinder. It's easier to pull the IVA housings sometimes than to fight them.

I have a question for you to see if you have any answers, I have a cat c15 with PDI single turbo conversion. Every morning I have to empty the first fuel filter a little because if the truck does not have power the turbo does not go up to 25, after doing this it usually goes up to 45 and on many occasions when I go up a hill the force happens the same and the turbo lowers the pressure to 25, I have already changed the fuel pump but the problem persists, if you could give me an answer it would be of great help. Well, you probably have a fuel pressure problem and not a turbocharger problem. I would recommend buying a fuel pressure gauge and seeing if you are getting about 90 psi of fuel pressure, I bet you aren't if you are having to mess with the fuel filter.

I believe you mean the transfer pump or some call it a lift pump. Yes I read that the pump is new in the original message, I'm trying to give you advice here, just because the pump is new does not mean you have good fuel pressure. You said you have to mess with the fuel filter every day or it runs weird, you need to measure fuel pressure because you could have 1 of a 100 different things wrong with the fuel system, that might be as simple as a bent line or bad fuel pressure regulator.

which adjuster are you talking about I'm sorry I'm confused and I'm working on a twin turbo c13 not sure the serial of it and someone told me I will need the injector height tool

+anthony alvarez It's going to be hard to explain over a comment, but the injector is set by making contact with the adjust with the injector then turning it 1/2 turn more then tightening the locknut. The C13/C11 don't use the injector height tool. The serial number is either a KCB or an LEE if it's a regen engine.

Great info here. As a Diesel tech my self, one real good serious question. How do find TDC with an Allison transmission bolted to the engine? the flex plate nor the Torque converter ring have any drillings or markings for your timing pin like in a flywheel for an Eaton transmission. Cat SIS Web all says to basically do what you did BUT no extra info for Automatic transmissions.

remove the peanut cover look for the timing mark.

Great videos, i have watched quite a number of your videos on injector replacements. I run a marine cat 3508B marine engine and i desire to service the injectors. I want to know if really the process is the same and can the injectors be serviced, the O rings replaced or simply replaced for new ones?

+Richmond Roger - Beckley I used to work in Power Generation which used the 3500 series engine. The C15 and 3500 series use a similar EUI design which has the camshaft supplying the force for the injector spring and then the ECM firing it. On the 3500A models they used a rack design, but if yours is a B model I believe they used the electronic design. You have to remove the rocker arm assembly then remove the injector, clean the cylinder of fuel, then install the new injector or reseal it. If you have seen my C15 injector video it is similar, just your engine has larger parts. Setting the injector height as well needs a special tool, which is different than the C15.

The disassembly and reassembly doesn't really have any special tooling needed, but for the injector height there is. I would recommend going to the CAT dealer for a parts breakdown and they should be able to tell you the injector height tooling, you can pull the valve cover easily and see for yourself.

I have a question I have a 2000 379 with a 3406e after running for around 11 hours the check engine light comes on the code says it's the oil pressure sensor now the oil pressure is still running at 70 to 75 psi at 1500 rpm and at idle it's a little over 40 is the sensor going bad or is it something more

+dale intimidator Your oil pressure sounds good, so here is what might be happening. You probably have a separate oil feed for your dash gauge, but your oil pressure sensor that the ECM reads is electronic. I would put a gauge on it to verify that your oil pressure is good when it is sending the check engine light and if it is then you need a new sensor.

Any 3126 would fill the void as they are all pretty much the same. Now you will want to verify the horsepower though, hopefully it should be out of another RV because RV engines have the highest horsepower. If you get a truck one you could wind up with a 190 HP engine.
