Like they said, you have to view the crazier stuff in light of "it's a video game, you get cool loot." Like, by the end of DOW2, you can have an army of nothing but veteran squads led by Terminator Captains, with plasma guns for everyone. Except the Grey Knights you can also get, they don't need them. Maybe the Blood Ravens only get Grey Knights in the first DOW? Anyhow, just kind of try not to worry about it in the tabletop.

Grey knight was called to deal with the Daemon. They are in totally different chapters. Also, Plasma is not superior to Bolter. It just have more powerful punch but less reliable when used extensively. Terminators are rare outside the 2nd founding chapters but not that rare. Captains of a well supplied chapter would have access to Terminator armor

I believe if i remember correctly that Indomitus pattern terminator plate *can* still be made, but it takes years to make a single one, and only a handful of forge worlds are able to do it, so usually "new" terminator armor is cobbled together pieces recovered from dead terminators. That said, "relic" terminators, Cataphractii, and Tartarus patterns cannot be made anymore.

Yeah. They are able to still make Indomitus pattern, but it is below replacement rates so in order to keep up numbers they have to do everything they can to recover lost pieces. And they have to make sure they avoid putting terminators in situations where the plate can be outright lost (vaporized, atomized, deleted from reality, etc.)

@@dedman1096 Officially, yes, and that's at least part of why recovery of terminator plate(or, failing that, recovery of the crux terminatus) is such a big deal, that said, completely new terminator armor, while they will have the crux terminatus, said crux may not necessarily contain a sliver of the armor. I believe there's a dark angels story that mentions that only the first major delivery of Indomitus armor contained pieces of the armor, but 40k is deliberately vague and contradictory with its lore so "that dude was just mistaken" would be a perfectly valid response if GW wanted to officially confirm that there's still plenty of armor pieces left.

My personal theory is that the Blood Ravens are *not* in fact 1000 Sons successors. Rather, they are descended from the replacement legion that Big E offered to Magnus if Magnus would rejoin the loyalists. The original TSons geneseed is just too ludicrously corrupted for the Blood Ravens to be descended from it, but that replacement legion? Yeah, I can see that.

Recent lore purified the 1kSons Geneseed via Malcador merging the remaining pure soul shard of Magnus with Revuel Arvida (Corvus Cabal loyalist) using the arcane equipment deep within the Imperial Palace. This created a stable successor of Magnus' geneseed to generate a "replacement legion" that ended up being the Blood Ravens. My assumption is Revuel Arvida merging with the pure soul shard of Magnus was Malcador's last ditch effort to create a being to take Magnus' place on the Golden Throne and spare the Emperor the duty. When the Emperor found out about Malcador's efforts, along with the creation of the Grey Knights to stem the resulting Chaos incursion from the failure of the human webway project brought about by Magnus' failure I believe that the Emperor did a little number on the Arvida Geneseed to create the Blood Ravens chapter as a tribute to Malcador's own Sigilite tradition (re: stealing artifacts) and also as a bureaucratic tool to act as the de facto chamber militant for the Ordo Hereticus opposie the Grey Knights Ordo Malleus. It retroactively explains the closeness of the Grey Knights with the chapter and the "Blood Ravens hold a particular closeness to The Emperor of Mankind" claim along with the odd relationship between the Blood Ravens and Imperial Fists as the Blood Ravens were the Sigilite oathbound force set forth to prosecutor Malcador's "Secret War" against the Sons of Dorn (why the Blood Ravens are so famously in possession of relics and combative against other Space Marine chapters). The Inquisition, as Malcador's magnum opus, of course looks over the Blood Ravens, and keeps the chapter unwraps during the formative centuries, finally releasing them from their duty when the Adepta Sororitas is founded as the first official chamber militant of the Ordo Hereticus. TL;DR Malcador fixed Magnus' geneseed and got a personal chapter to carry on the Sigilite order from the still yet corruptible geneseed slated for Grey Knights that the Emperor then went on to handcraft.

I believe its during Retribution that its revealed that Avitus, your heavy weapons guy in the 2 campaigns, is the canonical traitor. 52:10 to give more informations to DK. The Imperial guard refused to back down in front of the Blood Raven on Kronus. Basicly the general had the order to liberate the planet from the T'au "occupation". He was accompanied by an Vindicare assassin (the sniper one) to help him in his mission, or execute him should he fail. So he wasn't going to stop. The Blood Ravens on their side were there to recover relics from their past, and had orders from the Chapter Master himself Kairas (the one that went heretical) to not let those relics fall into enemy hands. In the guard campaign those relics are implied to be evidence of chaos corruption in the Blood Raven chapter.

A few tidbits in the video I want to point out. - The chapter master wasn't corrupted by the great unclean one but rather he was possessed and completely hollowed out by the ancient Khorne Daemon that Gabriel Angelos accidentally released at the end of the Dow 1 base game campaign. - The canonical traitor being Avitus is actually the best version they could have gone with for the traitor story. Martellus and all the squad members that can fall to chaos all fall to chaos for different reasons. But Avitus fall is the most interesting and well written out of all of them. He did not fall because of a lust for power, possession, disillusionment/resentment towards the imperium or their fellow brothers which is what we usually see. Rather he fell to chaos due to nihilism, regret and PTSD from butchering the guardsmen in victory bay during dark crusade thinking it was all for the greater good only to later learn it was all in service of a chaos servant rendering all the blood ravens former glories meaningless. It adds layers to a character who previously was only a brute. But it also adds layers to other characters since when Diomedes almost falls to the same fate Tarkus (one of the main squad members through all the DoW 2 campaigns) helps him break out of it. It also explains why the named player character who you played as in base DoW2 and chaos rising is not present in Retribution since if you don't completely fall to chaos but one of your squad mates does then he is executed by Gabriel Angelos for allowing chaos to spread. I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the Avitus traitor event by "BigDickChenney" on KZbin, even after all these years it is still great. - Honestly all the 3 imperial generals in the DoW 1 expansions Sturm, Alexander and Stubbs are all their own flavour of GigaChads. But I think Bricky might have been thinking of Sturm or Alexander since Stubbs from Soulstorm actually have very few voice lines while Sturm and Alexander got several great lines. That being said the Stubbs Imperial Guard ending for Soulstorm is considered canon by many since it is by far the best ending and unlike many 40k stories it is actually a very hopeful ending. Stubbs was such a Gigachad that he managed to turn Grimdark into Noblebright. Again I would recommend checking out the Soulstorm imperial guard ending by BigDickChenney on KZbin ;)

The entirety of the dawn of war Blood raven experience quickly: Dawn of war 1: Blood ravens are sent to a planet (Tartarus wow!) to fight orks on the planet and remove them completely. This was a ploy by an Alpha Legion chaos sorcerer who also controls some imperial guard. Eldar are also involved in attempt to stop alpha legion ritual. All this violence reveals a daemon spirit imprisoned in some stone (Sound familiar?) It gets freed due to all the confusion, and Gabriel Angelos defeats the first greater daemon of the series. Dawn of war 1: Dark Crusade. Literally every faction vying for control over the sector of Kronus. Imperial guard, Blood Ravens, Necrons, Eldar, Orks, Tau, and chaos. Dawn of war 1 :Soulstorm is still the same campaign but Dark Eldar and Sisters join the fight too. This is an entire free for all, no one trusts anyone for any help. The end result is the player killing everyone off and claiming the sector for themselves. Dawn of war 2 is the collapse of a blood raven recruiting world due to a tyranid invasion by eldar hands. The most simple campaign of all the series. Blood ravens win, but tyranids consumed half the world in the process then promptly left. Dawn of war 2 Chaos Rising: Their main homeworld comes back from the warp and now half the legion has turned to chaos! The chapter master is the cause and the greater Unclean one is released then promptly sealed back. The player can decide to be purely loyalist or turn chaos in the process, but they still fight chaos all the way through! (Turning chaos has them all executed in the end credits or leave for black legion) Dawn of war 2 Retribution: Once again, everyone joins the fray for a FFA! Player can pick one of 6 mini campaigns for control over the planet. Eldar, Orks, Chaos, Blood Ravens, Inquisition (Imperial guard),and even play as the Tyranids! End result is the planet being exterminatus as Gabriel Angelos kills the chapter master. Every faction has their reasons but really it's the same 13-ish missions with different dialogue and Gabriel showing up to beat a demon to death. Kyras is really upset on the tyranids being the faction that shows up too. Dawn of war 3 happens (It did!) And it's gone for absolute insanity. A new planet that houses a shard of a greater daemon sits in a planet (The third time a daemon has been imprisoned and let loose). Eldar, Blood Ravens, and Orks want the shard for different reasons. Spend an entire campaign playing as each faction until the very end where the player plays as all three main leaders WORKING TOGETHER to defeat a Bloodthirster as the world shatters and breaks apart. Yet another planet is blown up as people continue to fight on it. At the end of this campaign, the three main characters hatefully nod to each other and then leave, the orks learning nothing about releasing a daemon through violence.

First off: I still remember Kyras's speech from the end of the Retribution campaign- major, MAJOR props to DK for his delivery of that quote; it was damn close to the actual VA in terms of sheer gusto. Only because I played the game alot in DOW Retribution, Avitus is the canon traitor as he saw everything else as weak and only wanted more power. He does not get killed in Chaos Rising unless he is chosen as the traitor boss fight near the end of the game.

Just want to give a bit of a correction regarding how Azariah Kyras turn to Chaos. He didn't go down the path towards Chaos because of the Great Unclean one, Ulkair. That was just the start. It was actually the greater daemon of Khorne that was released from the Maledictum, all the way back in the main story campaign of the original Dawn of War game, who made Kyras fully embrace Chaos and in turn a follower of Khorne.

As a Ksons player, I love the idea of using their geneseed to try and make a chapter of psykers while having to keep heretical origins a secret. On the other hand, I also love the idea of a Chimeric geneseed combining several sources, including Ksons. Either way, Cawl is probably to blame.

The Blood Ravens have something called the "testament of Molinas" which was made from a page ripped out of tome that was stolen from the Black Library itself. They have various items gifted to them by various Soroitas orders as well as an entire Dreadnaught chassis from the Ironsnakes chapter.

The Indomitus pattern terminator armour can still be manufactured, it's template is held on key forge worlds which i assume are places like Mars, Graia, Agrippina, etc. the other patterns though like the Tartaros and Cataphractii can't be made and those that survived are irreplaceable and sometimes worn in ceremonies.

I coincidentally just read two stories on the Blood Ravens that were only available in paperback. Very cool bits of lore mixed with really over the top amounts of action. Kind of like any Black Library book with the fight scenes turned up to 11. The amount of times the writer wrote about cascading rivers of blood was ridiculous, it still surpassed my expectations of what a book based on a Warhammer video game would be.

If memory serves, one of the Writers from GW who helped come up with their lore said they are *not* Thousand Sons, but they are possibly chimeric in their geneseed. He speculated Imperial Fist and Deathguard, or possibly Dark Angel and Word Bearer!

Not just that, but his name "Azariah Vidya" can be shortened to "A. Vidya". Continuing the Sanskrit, "avidya" means "ignorance" or "delusion" ("a" as a prefix meaning "not", so essentially "not [having] Knowledge", or "to not know"). "Vidya" is a common girl's name in India. The Western equivalent would be "Sophia/Sofia" (also meaning "wisdom", in Greek).
