The original was sung by Smiley Lewis in 1958 and was called One Night Of Sin. Elvis also did it as One Night Of Sin but it was not released back in the day , they stayed with the One Night version.

"You would think he was performing to 40,000 people!" Hah! Good shout. Elvis definitely gave his all on this song. The 68 Comeback Special remains a superb showcase of this man's phenomenal talent and career. Astonishing to think it spanned 1954-1977 and included just about every popular music genre (ranging from rock 'n' roll and gospel to country, blues and soul) because he seems to have transcended time in some ways. Is it possible that you've previously heard the original studio master of One NIght recorded back in the 1950s? Or maybe you've heard other versions as it's been recorded by Fats Domino, Corinne Bailey Rae and Joe Cocker, to name a few. I enjoyed your reaction; it was filled with so many pertinent points and I look forward to you digging out more from the 68 Special.

Elvis did two versions of this. The first one was a slower, bluesier version, "One Night of Sin." But RCA in 1957 wouldn't allow it with the original blues lyrics, so Elvis changed a few lines, and they re-did it, and more guitar based, which became another big hit, "One Night (With You)." Here, Elvis revisits it in the '68 special.

I watched the ‘68 Special on our black n white TV. I was 10 yrs old!! Elvis really got into shape for this performance!! And who can forget his black leather outfit. OMG!! Beautiful Beautiful man!! I met one of Elvis’ body guards once and he showed us this huge diamond ring that Elvis gave him!! Said Elvis was the most nicest & generous man he’d ever met!! 🎶🎶🎶 “Thank ya very much”🎶🎶🎶

He recorded this in the 50s but it was the same speed. It was based on an older Blues version which may have been slower. Elvis sang with a savage passion in the 68 Special because he was performing live for the 1st time after seven years of just making movies. He vehemently declares in this song, "now I know I buried my life! Been too lonely too long!" Other great numbers from this Special include Trouble/Guitar Man, and a medley of his most popular songs. Another great performance to react to is "Words" from 70 Vegas.

This song was written by Dave Bartholomew, Pearl King, and Anita Steinman. The original lyrics were "One Night of Sin," and Smiley Lewis recorded a version with these lyrics 1956 that was an R&B hit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGSuk4l5bbiMkNk. Elvis also made a recording using the original lyrics (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXPSfWZ8q9asf68), but they were considered too risque, so the record was never released. In 1957, he recorded a version with the "cleaned-up" lyrics you heard in the Comeback Special video.

There were two versions of One Night that Elvis recorded in the 50s. One Night (With You), and One Night of Sin. He mixed up some of the lyrics. The line "would make the Earth stand still" was from One Night of Sin.

Yes There is another version Kim Wilde did it on TV then the Pet Shop Boys came on and did their Elvis song (Always on my mind ) Anyway the pet shops went to number 1 with it after the show But Kim Wilde sticks in my memory It was a great version
