John's only solo #1 hit (1974) in the USA until the posthumous peak of "(Just Like) Starting Over" from his Double Fantasy album (1980). He was very nervous about performing live at that point, but did quite well. He had promised Elton he would show up on stage with him if that song went to #1 (which seemed unlikely when he made that vow).

Can you imagine being at a concert by Elton John, who is already an astonishing performer, and out of a sudden appears John Lennon in the flesh 😮it had to be an awe inspiring show. Elton John is a true admirer of The Beatles, there is another concert in which he introduces Ringo and George and also very humble giving them all the credits in show business *'The Prince's Trust Rock Gala 1987'* in case you'd like to react to another one also wonderful with many stars on stage at the same time. And being in Yoko's place, I would get into the mood of the fans and be part of the joy, at least clapping.

Man, I haven't heard this song in years. When Walls and Bridges came out this song was played a lot. Both Lennon and Elton spent considerable time on WNEW FM in New York in the mid 70's being interviewed and playing some of their favorite songs. Such a great radio station. Whenever a new album was released, they would play the entire album that day one side at a time. Miss those days.

On the 45 rpm record of Whatever Gets You through The Night, Elton John does not get label credits. The artist is listed simply as John Lennon. On the single by Elton John, the song Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds does not give credit to John Lennon, even though he sings backup vocals. Both songs were #1 hits in the USA.
@TheCosmicGenius2 жыл бұрын
John Lennon was at a low point in the mid 70s, & had no self-confidence about performing. He got Elton John to perform on this song by agreeing to perform on Elton's cover of, 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds', which is also great, by the way. Another artist Lennon worked with during that era was David Bowie, cowriting & performing on, 'Fame', & also performing on Bowie's cover of, 'Across the Universe'.

Assuming there were probably real photos of the original performance available. We are so lucky, that nearly all events are videoed today.
