Australian Frank Ifield had a gorgeous voice. He has a country influence in his voice.. My sister loved him. Frank had the Beatles as a SUPPORT band at venues in England before they made it big and became famous.

He's just died May 18 in Australia I was just a kid 13 when this came out Still know all the words Lots of his hits were oldies from the U S I remember(you) late 50's watching a show called Whiplash(Australian outback Peter Graves) Frank sang the show's theme song Great memories

No.....Frank was 24 in the summer of 1962. His hits were recorded in Britain and were covers of classic old jazz and country songs, re-arranged by Norrie Paramor

I first came across Frank Isfield when I wanted to learn " The Lonely Goatherd" years ago! Now after Frank Isfields death on May 18th, I started to learn "I posted it( prematurely) on Facebook, and I realized that I had more work to do to learn it! I did learn it much better and will wait to post it again! I am now working on " She Taught Me To Yodel" which I love!

Frank passed away last week at the age of 86. RIP Frank. This song was written by the legendary Johnny Mercer in 1941. Johnny said this song was dedicated to his former love Judy Garland. This song reached #1 in England just before the Beatles got popular. He and Paul McCartney both dated the same girl who was Rory Storms sister Iris. Who incidentally dated George Harrison before Frank and Paul. 😊. Slim Whitman did a great version of the song on "Midnight Special"

Johnny Mercer is one of the all time great songwriters. He wrote hundreds of all time classics such as Moon river, Autumn Leaves, zippity doo da, On the Atchison,Topeka,and the Sante Fe,Glow Worm., and hundreds of more.

This song led to Frank's appearance at the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville. By the way, Frank tells the story of meeting the composer of this song, the great Johnny Mercer, who congratulated him on the success of "I Remember You". Frank thanked him for writing the song. Mercer replied, "did I"? He had written so many songs that he'd forgotten about that one!

The Beatles actually supported Frank on one of his tours in 1962. There is a very rare record called "The Beatles and Frank Ifield on Stage" - copies (if you can find one for sale) are selling for thousands of dollars.

Just FYI, this is not the original released recording. Frank Ifield must have re-recorded his vocals at some later date. Still great though! Song was written in 1941 and Jimmy Dorsey had a top 10 hit with it in 1942. It was also in the movie "The Fleet's In" in 1942. Johnny Mercer wrote the lyrics for Judy Garland.

When i was a kid , i wanted an Elvis Presley record . But my Father said no and bought me a Frank Ifield record instead . It was all a bit embarrassing at the time . Now that I'm an old man , nothing embarrasses me , and Frank was a great singer .

The song was originally written in 1941. This version by Ifield was 1962. Slim Whitman recorded it in 1966, probably the one you might be thinking of. Glenn Campbell did a version in the 80s.
