He was one of my sisters favorite musicians. I asked her to come down for the weekend to Dallas where I lived and surprised her with the tickets. The concert was outside so we had a little picnic and it was so much fun...she enjoyed it and we had a great time, I think this was in 1987. Several years later I got to meet a woman who was the president of his fan club and she worked with him while he was still alive. That was a joy too. He had such a beautiful voice and his lyrics were so heartfelt and full of love.

My mom loved Dan Fogelberg. I had never listened to him all those years. I lost her to a rare cancer, she told me she had it, and 6 months later, she was gone. I saw this video and gave it a try, for her. Thank you for letting me listen with you, now I know why he was one of her favorites.😢

Sitting here remembering how, as a young girl/woman, that Dan Fogelberg was so.damn. beautiful. But more than that we loved his music. I just found four LPs in my collection from those years: Captured Angel, Homefree, Netherlands, and his album Twin Sons Of Different Mothers (with Tim Weisberg). Shoot, Harri, I can’t even begin to request a particular track, I just remember loving those records 45 or more years ago. Try ‘em out. I’m happy to revisit that lovely man anytime. And RIP Dan Fogelberg, wherever you are.

His music has been deeply intertwined with my life, as a person learning about my own emotions through recognizing the reflections in his lyrics, and as a poet that one time said to a friend that I just wanted to write one poem that might have the same effect on one person as one song of his has had on me.

He wrote so many beautiful songs, and what many people don't know, he could also ROCK OUT when he wanted to. Amazing composer/arranger/musician/singer.

Great on acoustic guitar and piano, under-rated-or- appreciated rocker on electric guitar. Check out the video* of his Houston show ('82 I think) and "Empty Cages" (and "Times Like These" and other solos). He could play with--keep up with or exceed--just about anyone. I saw him in the early 90s when he was touring a mostly-acoustic band show for that summer, with Timothy B. Schmit on bass, when he was on hiatus from the Eagles break...and he gave the stage to Schmit for his Eagles song "I Can't Tell You Why." Dan picked up his Stratocaster to accompany on lead, mostly highlighting the plaintive signature solo, and said afterward "I just HAD to play at least one electric number!" He was at once the quintessential acoustic baladeer and actually inveterate, not-so-closet rocker. (*Unfortunately it's a flawed tape, but it's "okay" - and all we got...glad we at least have that!)

I heard this song for the first time watching a movie (in the theater😂) called FM. One of the DJ's played this in the movie. I was like, "Who is this?" I was hooked. This was the early 70's. My favorite artist of all time.❤

Oh wow. I’m 67, and this brings back so many memories from my younger self. I am such a fan of Dan Fogelberg, and I still have his first four albums I purchased at the time of their release. Besides the music, Dan’s lyrics were phenomenal. Thanks for this video, Harry. Dan left this world too soon, but what an amazing legacy of his life’s work he left us.

For me, Dan will never be forgotten. The first time I saw him in concert he opened for the Eagles. I was a big Eagles fan, but walked out of that concert an even bigger fan of Dan. He performed "Gambler" and as the song progressed, the members of the audience lit their matched and lighters and sang along at Dan's urging. It was a spiritual experience that I have never forgotten. This was in the mid-70s, and I was fortunate enough to see Dan perform live both with a band and solo another half dozen times before his untimely passing from cancer. To say that his death devastated me would be an understatement. I know that I will never stop missing him. He was a truly gifted musician, singer, songwriter and artist and we were blessed to have him as long as we did. I hope he knows how much he effected the world with his talent and with the essence of all he was. We thank him for what he gave to us and will miss him Ever On.

❤thank you Harry for playing one of my favorite Dan songs..I've loved his music since I was 14 yes old and I walked down the aisle to his song called "song from half mountain " ..he was and still is my absolute favorite singer of all time he was amazing and magical. Dan's first few albums are true gems, with superstar talent supporting him! It's a mystery that they aren't celebrated more. They capture the vibe of the '70s as good as any Eagles or Doobie Brothers album. They can be tear jerkers and maybe they're better for those quiet hours alone with our losses.

Fogelberg's well is very deep with lots of styles of music. "Tucson Arizona" is a tragic story masterfully told with layers and layers of music. "Serengeti Moon" is an African fertility song. If you like bluegrass he did a whole album. If you're into blues listen to his live acoustic versions of "Nature Of The Game" and "Road Beneath My Wheels." He also covered Muddy Waters' "Blow Wind Blow" in a live show.

I was very lucky to have seen Dan in concert at least eight times. He performed this song every time and had the audience join him on the chorus ( “and he sees”, “set it free”, and “let it shine”). I can’t tell you how magical that was! A very special song from a very special man!

So pleased to see a Fogelberg reaction, I've loved his music for years! In 1978 he bought a summer home here on the island in Maine where I live, and wrote a beautiful song about this place that he loved. His home looked over a water way known as "The Reach", which is the song's title. He was a good man! Hope to see you react to more of his music, Thanks!

Harri, so glad you're discovering this gem of a musician and person. He is so missed, but left us with a lot of great music and for many of us fantastic concert experiences... equally adept singing and accompanying on--sometimes highlighting as instrumentals--piano and guitar, and equally enjoyable solo or with band, often alternating tours as one or the other from year to year. Of his solo shows it was very common for fans, some long-time/familiar, some brand new, to say his sound was so rich and full, "how does he make it sound like more than one instrument?" (this was before gizmos that actually did that). As others have probably said, he finished out many of his concerts with "...Gambler" with an exhortation of "let's take the roof off this place!" rousing finale, having the audience participate in the chorus...which would go on and on. Magical stuff.

Sometime check the cover of this song when Dan was inducted into to the Colorado Hall of Fame. Garth Brooks, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Jeff Hanna of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band amongst others performed this, breathe taking when the audience joins in

A great tune from his second album. As for myself, I really liked his more folk-based earlier albums. He didn't do much of it, but he did harder rock really well. "Face the Fire" would be a great one to review, which is a very angry anti-nuclear, pro solar tune from 1979.

This song is the musical equivalent of a shoulder to cry your heart out on...and it's best to do it alone, and in the dark. The simple melody, and chord progression of this tune fall sooo easily on the ear. I think that's why it sounds so familiar and inviting to you. Fogelberg was magical that way. He did an interview with Rolling Stone around the time this album was released. He was asked to compare his sound with the rock and roll being made by other artists of the time. His reply was priceless, "I guess while everyone else is in the fast lane... I've been on the off ramp..." The choir on the choruses was made up of nearly every artist on the Asylum Records label...as was he, at the time. Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, John David Souther...its a long list of gifted vocalists...he was well liked. Not many people would choose this song for a reaction vid. I'm so glad you did! 😍😍😍

I was a fan of his back in the 70s. He came to play at our campus and was so drunk he couldn't play or sing his own songs. Ticked me off to no end that he would be that disrespectful to his fans. Don't think I ever listened to another tune of his.

Dan Fogelberg is, I feel, a really neglected talent. Check out some of his early material, "Part of the Plan." "Wysteria," "To The Morning." Really unique and exceedingly beautiful stuff. You've probably heard some of his later hits, "Run For The Roses," "Another Auld Lang Syne," "Leader Of The Band" and so many more. Fogelberg was a truly gifted writer that is gone too soon. As you know Hari Dan was one of the best singer songwriters and a great musician. You might want to try a different style of Dan’s in the song Ghosts or try his cover of Tell Me To My Face which was written by members of The Hollies.
