There's a song in the heart
Of a woman
That only the truest of loves
Can release.
There's a song in the heart
Of a woman.
Set it free
Oh, set it free
Set it free
Oh, set it free
Set it free
Oh, set it free.

There are just a few artists in your lifetime that are able to touch a part of you that is hidden from everyone else. Dan Fogelberg, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot are among the few. I am a musician myself so I can appreciate that aspect of Dan's talent. But to be able to play multiple instruments well, write such soaring notes, write such heartfelt and insightful lyrics and to be able to sing with such authority that may be a once in a lifetime NOVA!

He also mixed in and engineered all aspects to record and I read he was a perfectionist about this. In my opinion, he is the most magnificent musician of his day to not receive the appropriate recognition in the music industry. This used to anger me but I grew up enough to figure out that this was a Blessed thing. He refused to sell himself out to the Evil bastards and achieved a following unlike any other ! I miss him ! I would love to hear your music James Russell ! Where can I find you? God Bless And Keep As You Go 👣 !

Dan was the best song writer of our generation. A true poet and musician all wrapped up in one person. Honestly, his most popular (commercially successful) songs are not his best work. Go back and listen his albums. The entire soundtrack of the album, The Innocent Age, is a masterpiece. Dan’s music and lyrics live on in all our hearts!

I feel the same way about Todd Rundgren... most only know I saw the light and hello its me.. He disappeared from commercial radio became a producer for many groups of the late 70s and even did his own live album something anything Ling before kiss did kiss alive 2 which wasn't even a true live album as they took snipets from their concerts. He did some of his best work undercover with his own band utopia including writing love is the answer for Ford and coley although when Todd sings it you feel like your hearing him a s a preacher in church. I feel too like Dan's songs are really not meant for commercial audiences. He like Todd was true to himself and wrote how he felt about life. This song which I never heard before is so beautiful it drew tears. Dan has that same soulful voice that can really move you. But he like Todd wanted to go his own way. I love all his music but the more obscure hidden tracks like this one really cause me to pause... so diverse is his God given talent that one can still be surprised when you come across a gem 💎 you never unearthed and an watch it gleam across its own musical boundaries. Rip Dan 🙏 ❤thank you for sharing your thoughts feelings and talent with the world 🌎

@@heriwood88 , it was in Hampton. There were two other stand-out moments for me. I loved when he stopped playing and told the audience to be quiet so they could hear the music. After she was born, she always danced to his music and it would calm her if she was upset.

Dan Fogelberg is the Greatest Musician this earth has ever known. He has no equal. Not Mozart. Not Beethoven, not Chopin. His voice, the purity, the range, the power ! His brilliant, prophetic lyrical genius ! His multiple instrumental virtuosity on guitar, piano, string arrangements, the perfect synchronicity is the stuff of the Gods. He was a gift from GOD to mankind. IT's OK, i guess, that the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame did not induct him. To think Dan not worthy of this says lots more about them than it ever did of Dan. Hall of Shame is more appropriate.

I finally got to see Dan just after he was pronounced cancer free they last time. I had been a fan since 1971, A brother from another mother., I proud wore a T-shirt that a friend got for me. I was very young and not allowed to do anything!

I can honestly say that I probably would have stopped playing and writing if I hadn't heard "Home Free." The spark was out of music for me and that album, written and recorded by a guy my own age at the time, inspired me to keep going, and energized a career in music that was to last me into my late 60's (now). "Thank you, Dan" is woefully inadequate, but I suspect he'd get the idea :-)

Has there been as talented a songwriter , musician ( blues , jazz , classical , bluegrass , hard and soft rock , pop ? ) I think not --- the early stuff and obscure for many who only know his " hits" is selling oneself VERY VERY short - dive deep into the well of artistry that was the ouevre of Dan Folgeberg - true artist . Not even in the Songwriters Hall of Fame - how is that even possible ?
