"..the physical manifestation of the hot mess that is: my brain " - you are the physical manifestation of myself, if I was a Woman. " ..you are looking at someone who is trying to figure out their life.." - well...if you insist. No worries though, that's just how some people approach life: not very family centric, but everyone has freewill, I suppose. I have no tips an tricks, I unfortunately am also guilty of having dozens of unfinished things laying around, to keep me warm at night :) Also had to stop watchin, because I just couldn't handle all the PTSD I was getting from my own life (without the apartment though). Good luck Woman; may the organization gawds show you favor!

Paper plates & plastic spoons are a really good hack
@rebeccaherrera60069 ай бұрын
Oh honey…..I have adhd and I’m 53. I’ve been diagnosed just within the last 7 years and that was because I started counseling and jokingly said it wouldn’t surprise me if I’m undiagnosed with ADHD. Next thing you know….its official. The problem with your space is that it is pretty much one large room. We live the same from “organizing”, eating, crafting, traveling…..except I haven’t gotten a van YET 😂 I too live super clean and organized at other peoples places but when it comes to our own spot we are a hot mess! Give yourself some grace. It takes 30 days to create a habit so slow and steady wins the race. You can use sticky notes everywhere. One tip I can give you right now is everytime you pick something up before you put it down you say,”DONT PUT IT DOWN, PUT IT AWAY” Also-label EVERYTHING including doors like cabinet doors and containers. With shelving, once you’ve got it contained it is kinda necessary to cover them away. We get overwhelmed when everything can be seen. The point is to have working areas and have what we need within reach. If we stop to get up to grab what we need from another area, chances are, we won’t go back anytime soon. Ultimately You need a plan. Draw out your apartment layout on a paper. Make lists with your categories (100,200,…). You have to go through everything and compile them into -Donate, Throw, Keep, Sell BOXES. You can Marie Kondo all your stuff. The only take away from that is you have to hold each item one by one and say,”Do I love you enough to keep you?” If the answer is no, then can you donate it? Yes? Donate BOX that way you won’t be left to piles on the floor and get overwhelmed again. You cannot revisit the other boxes that aren’t in your KEEP pile. Once you’re done with everything, then you should designate spots for them. One thing I can tell you is that ANY and EVERYTHING for the van should be all kept together in one spot-parts, tools, etc. Same with your crafting and sewing. If you can run a line to power your sewing machine in that closet area so you can keep your clothes and materials there, do it. Those extras in those cubbies can go into LABELED shoe boxes and put in those kitchen cabinets. Your cleaning supplies should go underneath the sink. For your dishes, one thing I will make sure I do is the dishes before I go to sleep so that I don’t worry about bugs. Get a dish pan and fill it with water and soap for the dishes to soak just like you did with your little cup. Get a scrub mommy/daddy scrubber. Works wonders. In your bathroom, there is a shelf I recommend from IKEA. It’s technically found in the kitchen section. It’ll fit right on that tiny part of the sink or you can mount it on the wall. It’s the Ehnet line but it’s tall and thin and should be able to fit so you have all those things off the counter but within sight. Theres some videos out there to help people like us to organize our own lives. Everything from cleaning, organizing and even filing/getting rid of paperwork. You’re just going to have to want to put in the work and if you can break it up into anything under 20minutes, then I encourage you to do it. Better to do something than nothing at all.

I also have ADHD but have everything in my house put away and organized. There is a place for everything and everything is in its place. It drives me nuts when my husband puts dishes away and doesn't put things back where I think they belong or load dishwasher improperly ( in my opinion)😅 He knows not to touch "my stuff" on bathroom counter. He puts his clean clothes and stuff away and I get anxiety when I put something away in his dresser. Makes no sense to me how he has his clothing organized. I agree on towel thing as I wash sheets and towels together and don't want to bleach my pretty sheets! Keep organizing and pretty soon everything will fall into place. Love your videos!

I don't have a dishwasher either. With the dishes, I like to group things together and do those at the same time (start with washing all of the glasses, then the plates, then all of silverware, etc). I also have all uniform, white dishes-- nothing fancy or precious or hard to clean. Doing the dishes regularly when you have a "formula" for doing them can almost feel meditative instead of like a chore. 😇

There's no dishwaser at my place either. It's funny, we have almost the same technique. Except I do plates, glasses silverware. I find washing dishes oddly relaxing at times. Also, if I'm at someone's house and I see dirty dishes, I will wash them.

OK, lets see if my pea brain has this right. You've lived there for awhile and accumulated an abundance of stuff. Some is of value, some not so much. So You've pulled everthing out, put like with like, and made a place for your absolute must haves that will fit in Bertha. You've decided what to keep and get rid of. Everything is color coded and numbered so when it goes to storage you can find it when you need it. I think that your system is very well thought out and executed. Well done.

I was raised in a room smaller than what we can see here on the video with three other brothers. My only goal was to never had to live like this. You said that "there is too much space" and it amazes me that you can be contented in life with very little and I'm jealous that I can't be like this. I own €1,2mil house where just one of my bathroom is bigger than your apartment or my childhood room. I'm happy that I can afford it but I noticed that being able to have good life doesn't make my life any happier and In matter of fact I miss my childhood home that was messy and small.

Sometimes you need a place just to reorganize everything and re group everything, and get rid of things, etc. I have my vehicle, which I had to clean, and threw away alot of things I have decided to get rid of myself. It happens, stuff can accumulate.

The "there a system there" had me dyyying because my brain was like "this is what we are calling a system?!?!?!" Lol. I think I have very minor ADHD (never been diagnosed or felt the need for a diagnosis) and have a bunch of friends who most definitely have ADHD. That being said I have only ever encountered this behavior from my best friend when I was helping her move from Portland back to San Diego. It was crazy to me how she didn't even think to separate her meds & daily essentials into a bag that could be accessed at a moments notice. We had loaded my car with all her belongings and then had to take everything out to look for the stuff that was scattered in random places. I literally asked her "how do you even live your life" and her response was "in completely chaos" which seemed rather accurate lol.

Yep. As soon as I put anything in a cabinet it ceases to exist.
@knutblaise943710 ай бұрын
An idea for you. Just like some songs need more cow bell, you can't have enough of those metal baking racks (COSTCO used to be a good source for them). What I like to do is get the small UHAUL moving boxes and space the rack shelf height such that I can maximize the number of moving boxes on the chrome backing racks. Cardboard filing boxes are another good option. To keep track of where items are stored, I number and sort the boxes on the racks and take a photo of the contents of each numbered box. In this way you can easily get to whatever item you have hidden from view - mind like water. To get to any box you do NOT have to move all the boxes on top of the box in question as each box rests on a shelf. If you get the COSTCO racks with wheels and you have an elevator in both your old and new location (or both are on the ground level) simply roll the shelves with boxes in place from location 1 to truck to location 2 and you are moved! If moving to a storage unit with wheeled racks you can rent a smaller unit and pull the racks into the hallway to gain access to boxes vs paying for the square footage to have walkways to access the rack contents within the storage unit. David Allen’s, “Getting Things Done” (mind like water reference above) does a great job of addressing how you can find more peace by organizing the clutter of things to do into a system that ensures things get done even when you are not wasting brain cycles constantly thinking about them. Hope you have a great New Year!

Your brain is fascinating! I mean this in the most respectful way but I think you need to speak to a health professional because I feel like this behaviour is going to get worse as time goes on without treatment. My apologies if I offend because that’s not my intention and maybe you already are addressing it but this is very similar “scatter brain” behaviour I’ve seen in people with mental health issues that eventually lead to a very poor quality of life, lets say.
