To answer the first question: yes, there is absolutely an upper limit to the daily dose on all of the stimulant meds. Many people build a tolerance to the stimulants over time and may need to work their way up the doses over many months of continuous use. The tolerance quickly fades away though, so if you find yourself needing more and more over time and the dosage level is worrying you (particularly as any negative side effects are more likely at the higher doses) then the option of having a day or two med-free each week is one way to manage your tolerance to the drug. The other thing that some people do once they get near the high dose of one of the stimulants is to switch to a different stimulant - and possibly settle on switching back and forth between two that work well for you every six to twelve months or so.

Just got diagnosed a few weeks ago at age 35, and I'm loving your videos. Always cool to see someone share the beginning of their journey with ADHD. I've been on Adderall for a little over a week now and I liken it to putting on glasses for the first time. My brain feels clear instead of foggy, and I can actually do the things I want to do instead of feeling paralyzed. Best of luck going forward!

I have no idea why people say like it's a bad thing to depend on medication? ADHD isn't fun for yourself and when society doesn't understand you. Also we don't question people who wear glasses or need a wheele chair to use things to live. But we question people that need medicine to function? Smh

[In regard to whether or not taking ADHD medication makes you dependent on it] I think of it like a car. Cars allows you to work further away than I'd you didn't have one, but I don't tilhink there's anything I herintly bad about being reliant on a car. Assuming you're on a dosage that works for your brain, ADHD medication isn't something that changes you into someone completely different, and you wouldn't at all be the same if you had to go without it. To me, it's more of a vehicle to help you get where you need to be.

Dependency and addiction are different anyway. People have a very puritanical view of almost all forms of medication but especially mental health drugs of any kind. They understand dependency on heart meds or insulin, but anything that you could possibly enjoy taking (even if you don't, the mere possibility is enough) they will be extremely suspicious. They will generally try to get you to stop even when there are no obvious adverse effects.

Hey. Social Worker here (not a doctor). Most people can't really be "Immune" to ADHD meds, but if there is a problem with your dose and you're not feeling it, your doctor might switch to another medication entirely. There are several types of ADHD medication that get similar results through different methods. They don't all work for everyone.

One thing I’ve noticed with people on Adderall and a KZbin Channel: Every single one falls off social media and doesn’t post after a year on the medication

I hate Strattera (non-stimulant) it makes it hard to pee and by day 7 felt like someone was taking out my kidney with a spoon. I liked Adderal but in my area, I would be turned away often when trying to fill my prescription because pharmacies didn't always have it in stock. so I went to Vyvanse but I felt more like a zombie. The world could end and I wouldn't care. hopefully, I can find something soon as I haven't been on medication since 2017 and as you get older (53) our symptoms become more pronounced to others and we are less tolerant as well.

I am 45 and I've passed with flying colours on the standard ADHD self assessment sent to me by my GP. They referred me, to mental health team, and all I have to do is wait another 17 months. Yes, NHS waiting list.

I was prescribed 18mg of Concerta and it worked brilliantly. FOR TWO DAYS. Then it was like I wasn't taking it at all. Fingers crossed that it can be increased in a few weeks and that won't do the same thing.

Im the ADD impulsive and inattentive type and developed terrible procrastination habits as a result, so if I dont immediately start studying when I take Adderall I may end up wasting away several hours doing anything else but studying.

Also if your meds make you drowsy that means you should probably stop taking the medication in the morning and do it at night.

Again talk to your doctor....idk why people don't reach out to professionals....I get why u wanna vent to people but again our bodies are all different and your the only person that knows you. That's awesome that your gf understands your diagnosis and u both are still together :) it takes a lot of love and patience dealing with someone with ADHD

Dosages should be kept as low as possible, medication holidays are a great way to keep the dosage down since being constantly on a high dose can literally overstimulate and fry neurones. From what I’ve learnt try to not take the med for an extended period of time (like 2 weeks) and then hop back on and try to have weekends off. The extended off med period could be avoided if you don’t take meds for example on weekends but that mostly depends on your body. I’m not a doctor I’ve just been researching how to take stimulants with the lowest side effects possible and this is what I’ve learned so far :)

Hi! Hopefully you can answer this, I have a 6 yr old who was prescribed Adderall, what are your thoughts on giving the medicine to a 6 yr old?

The first question reflects a common myth that you will build a tolerance to a drug indefinitely i.e. that you will always need a higher dose over time. This isn't true and it's what titration (the initial period of trying out dosages) is for. Everyone's body is different but there will be a dose that your body 'tops out' on. It will not just indefinitely increase over time. That's drug war propaganda to scare people away from "bad" drugs.

I am recently diagnosed with ADD in moderate range. I don't have problems going through the day because I live with my parents and they help me doing most of the task but I have problems with studies. Do you have any idea if its okay to sometimes not take meds when I don't have to study for exams?

Hi I'm 35 from Luxembourg-diagnosed since few months. I take "Concerta" medication for ADHD...Until now I don't know if it helps me to focus or not because I am also Bipolar, and started an antidepressant at the same time. I don't have a job for the moment ,and I am a lot at home,so it's difficult to see any change for me. Somebody tried Concerta already?
