This is like Leonardo da Vinci showing a bunch of painter and decorators how to paint The Mona Lisa. "On longer putts I introduce a bit of wrist". Carnage in the next Monthly Medal.

Seve’s back injury deteriorated in 1990 & he had good spells when his physio therapy worked but it was only a temporary fix as the injury became untenable by 93/94 & his swing didn’t resemble his prime years. Such a shame that his career was effective cut short due to injury. Secretary in his prime was unbeatable.

Putting takes all the fun out of golf.

Interesting perspective. I find putting on fast, undulating, true rolling greens to be funnest thing in golf. I love trying to visualise the correct speed and direction, then seeing if I can replicate it. Slow, uneven greens are considerably less enjoyable, unfortunately that's the reality of playing more affordable courses.

Think of it this way. An amateur having never played golf before has a chance to put well. He definitely cannot drive. He might get lucky with a small iron. But he could easily putt. Even a kid can do it. Imagine an athlete smacking a 350 yard drive and then imagine a grown man tapping a little ball into a hole. Ugh.

@@Markcgreer I'd argue that that's what keeps golf interesting. Getting to the green and putting are two separate games. And I'd even say these days that the former, at least in the PGA, is easily more predictable of the two to watch. Smash a drive, wedge to the green. With putting there's a lot more nuance and uncertainty. Especially to an amateur. I mean have you ever seen the horrific performances at a mini golf course? And they usually have brick bumpers surrounding the putting surface. Let alone a 60ft wide open green. Yikes

We miss you Seve. Interesting to note that even the great players are subject to differences between feel and reality. He feels that his head is directly above the ball, but in reality he is a couple of inches behind the ball, studying the line from slightly behind the ball. Or are my eyes deceiving me?
@ivanriverooo
@ivanriverooo 4 жыл бұрын
I thought of that as soon as he said it. He hang his club dead straight behind the club then he funnily took it "straight" down to the ball on a slight diagonal forward LOL.

In fact, because of all his setup and address he might has well have always been a natural "fader" when putting. Especially with mid-long range, that would be more noticeable to me. He'd find himself a straight putter but I find he slightly "pushed" punched them, kind of. By putting weight forward I even find he mini hit down on the ball o rith at the bottom, not upwards like a driver like it is nowadays adviced. Still, it's all about controlling your shot, and being comfortable like he says. I sometimes play putts in the same way I play shots. I just focus on fundamentals but sometimes I don't even do the same swing, I just do it like in football. Maybe one foot stance. Make it more natural.
