The only issue is that he's not an innovator. NASA test ran self-landing rocket tech with DC-X in 99', privatized development and let Musk and Bezos develop the tech. GM made EVs back in the 90s but pulled them back, so Elon joined (and I stress this) Tesla to push the tech. Brain-Computer interfaces have been around for ages, playing ping-pong with an implanted chip was done in 2006. What he dubbed "Hyperloop" was presented by a rocket engineer back in 1910s. To summarize, Elon is one of the greatest managers of our time, hardly innovators.

Not Hyperloop with a capital H. Hyperloop with a capital H is a non-Musk company that is working on building a hyperloop using elevated metal tubes. Those tubes are going to have some problems with heat expansion, routing, and security. But Musk has laid out a route to building a hyperloop system by starting with a lower speed (~150 MPH) system in non depressurized tunnels. The idea is to first develop ways to tunnel much faster/cheaper, and then move on to longer distance depressurized tunnels and run faster (~700 MPH).

@@gamersforeverr All of the hyperloop startups are based on Elon's white paper in which he outlines how a vehicle running in a partial vacuum could travel at a high speed and be a clean energy alternative to passenger jets. Like any idea, people start with the idea and look for ways to improve it. Elon started with his plan and is working on better solutions such as going underground in concrete lined tunnels rather than overland in steel tubes. Others are sticking with Elon's initial idea of overland tubes. All approaches, including Elon's, have abandoned Elon's initial idea of using compressed air for propulsion and moved to maglev. Yes, the idea has been around for a century. But what Elon realized was that we now had the technology that could make a hyperloop system possible. Elon wrote a paper that described how a hyperloop system could be built and made that idea available to all so that whoever wanted to take the idea and improve it could do so.

​@@bobwallace9753 If no one is using the original design in any way shape or form (assuming it was a first), it's not "taking his design" and making it better, it's abandoning his design and going a step back, building on the general vacuum tube travel concept. It's a fork in the road, not an extension, voiding him of innovation rights. The only Hyperloop part of the startups, is the name, only because of good PR it comes with, at least in the short run.

@@gamersforeverr Why is it important for you to attempt to downplay Elon? Obviously people took Elon's ideas from his white paper and looked for ways to improve them. They all publicly reference his paper. They didn't "step back", they stepped forward. Elon did not patent his idea of the hyperloop. He stated that it was an idea that he did not have time to pursue at that point in his life and gave the idea to the public so that anyone who wanted to could develop it further. That is what he wrote in the paper.
