Stephanie and I set out on an adventure jumping from pond to pond through the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest in our Radisson Canoe. We camp, fish and paddle on a different pond each night while travelling through these beautiful Adirondack waters. The fishing action was a little slower than we expected but we still managed to have some action on our lines! Our route took us on a loop that started and ended with Middle Pond going from Middle to Flood, Rollins, Whey, Black, Copperas, Follensby Clear, Horseshoe, Little Polliwog and Polliwog Pond.

Nice video, looked like a good trip. It's a shame about the garbage you found, I've been finding a lot of the same on my trips as well. Fires in dumb places, broken glass, live trees chopped down, etc.

It really is crazy what people do out there. It did not end up in the video but the campsite at Horseshoe still had smoldering logs in the firepit surrounded by all that soft, burnable ground.

Pissing into the wind. Looks like mid summer and your looking for stocked trout? Stockies get hammered by fisherman right when they get put it in. Check with F&W for the stocking schedule

This trip was really more just about getting out with Stephanie during the rare time she had off from work. Some of those ponds do have Bass and Pike in them, but I do know what you mean about them getting hammered.

Try floating powerboat dough suspended about a foot or 2 off the bottom for rainbows. That seems to work for me in that area.

I don't know why I did not think of that! I will keep that in mind next time, thank you! Whenever I am Trout fishing on ponds or lakes I always default to the LCW setup or Trout Spinners.

@@DaxWoodsWanderer yeah me too works great for the brookies and splake but I don’t have much luck on rainbows up there on them for some reason. Floating power bait gets em though…it they’re there.

Little poliwog has the best brook trout of all! Many don’t take the time to fish it when the fish will actually hit… ice out! Let me know Dax I’m a local we should link up for a weekend and fish!

What a great trip. Holy crap on a cracker! Catching that loon swimming under the boat! Footage of a lifetime! Irresponsible camping pisses me off! Makes ya wonder about some people, don’t it? Ya know, with all the swimming I’ve done in ponds and lakes in the Adirondacks, I don’t believe that I’ve ever had a leech grab onto me. Maybe it’s all the garlic I eat🤣
@DaxWoodsWanderer

Thanks for watching! The loon was really awesome to capture, I could not believe how brazen they were while following my line. It is definitely always a bummer when you find a trashed campsite, but we try to be pretty good about cleaning them up when we find it. The leeches really were something else though! I could not believe the size of some of the leeches and crayfish we saw in those ponds.

Thanks for watching! These ponds and lakes from the video definitely receive a fair bit of pressure during the summer, this is a fairly popular area to camp. I should have a video up soon of me hitting some more remote ponds in the same area once things thaw out here.

I just picked up a 12’ Radisson in great shape. I like that removable yoke you have. Where did you get it? The gunnels have pretty small lips does it work well or did you have to do any mods? Any info would be awesome. I’ve been searching online for a removable portage yoke!

I got mine from Oak Orchard Canoe, if you google the name they should come up! It required no modification and worked like a charm, the only hard part is making sure its exactly at the balance point so it rests on your shoulders properly. You will love the canoe, its great for fishing and seems almost impossible to capsize. One thing I would mention that is crucial for fishing, good solid clamp on rod holders for trolling!
@mitchdavis7671
@mitchdavis7671 2 жыл бұрын
@@DaxWoodsWanderer thanks! I bought some down east rod holders earlier in the year so I’ll be trying those out. Mine is the 12’er but wide square transom. It seems on mine the balance point is where the oarlocks are. Thanks again!

@@DaxWoodsWanderer I just got the yoke and it’s a game changer thanks for the info. I also bought the rowing seat and that’s a game changer too. It really puts you in the perfect position to row. The seats on the canoe are too high and far back and if you sit on the hill you’re just too low. The rowing seat is awesome
