I set out once again along the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, this time tackling Section 2 going from Long Lake, along the Raquette River, through the Saranac Lakes and taking out at Lake Flower. This stretch takes me through over 42 miles of beautiful scenery, fishing, paddling and camping in the Adirondacks. All along the way I mange to hook into gorgeous Large and Smallmouth Bass and one monster of a Northern Pike!

That northern was awesome. Probably didn't survive long with its gills all jacked up. Nothing you can do about that man. Bad luck for the fella.

1:18:00 There are always 2 rainbows due to the bending of light in drops of water. The outer rainbow is often very hard to see due to the angle it forms in the drops. Glad you were able to see both of them. Great video! Really nice northern pike at 1:38!

Brought back great memories of my trips 30 years ago. Typical ADK weather. My dad did that trip in the early 1950s. Actually hitchhiking up to Old Forge from NYC with army surplus gear and went all the way to the Saranacs. Then they hitchhiked back home.

I had the same exact thing happen to me with a huge pike on Lincoln Pond when I was a kid. I feel your pain 😂

Another excellent video, as a new follower i'm going through your old videos and enjoying them all. This 1 is especially interesting, I have done the paddle twice from long lake to Axton landing and camped on Corey's rd. numerous times as a teenager with family. I was there last year for 4days and 3 nights for the first time in 52years, and was very pleased to see that the fishing on Ampersand brook was as good as I remember.

If you do not have any already, look for some of the Adirondack Paddlers Maps. Super helpful little resource for planning and executing trips around the Adirondacks by canoe! Thanks so much for watching!

Awesome trip and video! My family camped 30 years straight on Lower Saranac, so from Middle on was all very familiar. My biggest smallmouth ever was caught right near site 20 just off Lion Island. I remember lots of bass in Lower having those black spots. Would love to do that whole trip. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for watching! I love Lower Saranac for the Northern Pike fishing. Towards the end of November some buddies and I really got into some sizable fish with a consistent bite!

@@richcombs4805 omg the world gets a little smaller, I also live in Whitesboro near the cemetery lol. I'm not sure what number that lean to was, but it was on long lake, not far from the Raquette on the north side. It was on the eastern shore.

@@DaxWoodsWanderer we'll be portaging a heavy canoe so we'll be not as quick as you can be...might bring the lighte tandem kayak not sure but that Pamlico 135T sits low and still 70lbs....not sure how rough Saranac will be

question for ya.... at 1:19 Middle saranac you mentioned site reserved in summer (these are all sold out). I see two lean-to on the north side of Middle on the NYS Info Locator (and it shows none of the campground itself). If you know anything about those two and if they are not truly free, I'm definitely interested in hearing about that.

Oh I toss those directly into the lake... Totally kidding, they all get packed out with me or burnt up in a fire at night.

It is very similar, but I actually use the NRS Bills Bag 110L version. It has served me really well on many of these longer trips. Thanks for watching!
