Okay, just to clarify. The screw ABOVE the roller adjustment holds the roller assembly in place. If you remove the top screw, be prepared to remove the door out of the the frame to secure the roller assembly back to the frame! Just saying……

Good info, thanks. Do you have a video on how to replace the sliding door? One of my sliding panels leading to the backyard is fogging up and I would like to swap it out with the same type of panel in one of my bedrooms. Do I have to remove the side frames in order to lift the entire slide panel to remove it, or do I just retract the rollers to be able to lift the glass panel off the track?
@elenam7193 Жыл бұрын
Great video! I have a slider that is scraping across the track cap on the right side. If I try to adjust the roller with a screwdriver, I can only turn it half way in either direction and it does not change the height of the door on that side. The left side is not doing this, and sits above the track cap. Is this the result of a damaged right-side roller? Every time I try to clean the track or adjust the rollers, I make the door harder to open! LOL

I have a different problem. I have a sliding glass door, internal door...it scrapes the inside of the frame, so raising or lowering the height of the rollers doesn't seem to fix the issue. The powdercoating is all scratched where there is metal on metal. So the problem is lateral scraping rather than underside. This has been doing this since installation but I didn't notice it until I started using that door more often.
@frugaldiy1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Lupi33. The problem with your slider can be caused by several reasons. I'd need to see the door to determine the problem.

@frugaldiy1 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, arnilie. There should be pile weatherstripping between the door panels. If it's missing, damaged or worn, it needs to re replaced. That should solve the air/noise issue.

I tried to adjust my door rollers but the adjustment screw head is stripped out and I can't turn it. Any suggestions? The door is new, so the installer must have stripped out the screw.
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Yes, I use locking pliers, blunt or needle-nose tip, to remove screws with stripped heads or missing heads. I have a video showing how I do that, and here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lai0h4aNnJhqbdU In your case, because the head of the screw may be difficult to snap the locking pliers on to, use the tip/nose of the locking pliers to grab onto the head of the screw.

Did I miss something. Did you actually resolve the gap in the door? A good video, but I'm not sure that it was clearly explained how you resolved the gap problem, for example to fix the gap at the upper part of the door do you adjust the screw anti-clockwise or clockwise, you didn't say.
@Guitaroverkill Жыл бұрын
How do you close the gap between the stationary door and the slider? Cool air blows through.
@frugaldiy1 Жыл бұрын
Guitar Overkill, the gap between the stationary door and slider is suppose to have pile (mohair) weatherstripping, but it does wear over time. You can certainly replace it, but you have to remove the slider to do it. Also, if you do replace the weatherstripping, make sure you get the right size (which can be quite challenging). I'd just plug the gap with loosely waded paper towels or a bit of backer rod for the time being. Merry Christmas!
@Guitaroverkill Жыл бұрын
@@frugaldiy1 The door is 2-3 years old. The material may not have been installed when the door was replaced.
@frugaldiy1 Жыл бұрын
Guitar, to replace or install new pile weatherstripping is a project that's best to do in the spring or summer, when it's not so cold, because you have to remove the slider. I don't want to give you the impression that it's a difficult job to do--it's not. The difficult part of the project is that you have to find pile weatherstripping that has the correct dimensions (width, height and base that fits into the channel) that will fit into channel in your door. The pile weatherstripping fits into a channel in the door. You just can't see that channel until you pull the door. It's tough if you don't have any weatherstripping in the door now to use as a sample size to buy replacement pile that has the correct dimensions. I had to go to a glass company to find the correct size for some windows I had. Since your door isn't that old, call the manufacturer and ask them if they might know the size pile you need.

I have uneven sliding door. The top part and the bottom do not allign. What is the solution please?
@frugaldiy1 Жыл бұрын
I'd look at the rollers, at the bottom of the door, and see if they need to replaced. You have to remove the slider panel to do that. Or, the alignment issue could be related to the slider door not being centered on the track at the bottom of the door.

The adjustment screw has pulled away from the rollers. We can't get it threaded back on. We can't get the door out either. Help!!!
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Hey Debbie. I'd try this. Place a block of wood under the bottom of the door on the each side, in the bottom track, so you can elevate the sliding door. When you elevate the door, the rollers will lower. Then look into the hole where the adjustment screw goes and try to locate and line up the hole in the rollers where the screw came out of. Then, gently try to screw the screw back in. If the screw binds or resists don't force it because you may strip the threads.
@debbiedownerdkm14062 жыл бұрын
@@frugaldiy1 We sort of tried that. We only raised the one end. We will try both ends. Not easy looking through that tiny hole with bi focals and trifocals. But thank you so much for replying. Much appreciated
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Debbie. I know you're in a tough spot. You can use a small screwdriver or ice pick to locate and align the holes on the rollers that the screws go into, so you don't have to look for them.

Can’t adjust because the screw is missing? I’d like to replace the roller assembly but I can’t remove the door because I can’t adjust the wheels. Now what?
@frugaldiy12 жыл бұрын
Tough one, M D. I'd get a couple of screws of various sizes and gently try to screw them into the hole on the door frame to see if one fits. I say gently because you likely don't know the type of screw threads or the pitch of the threads.
@charliebrown9230 Жыл бұрын
I love your video but you have a bare floor I have tile so I couldn't remove the door . 🥺
@frugaldiy1 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Charlie. That's nice of you to say. Yes, I'm renovating my house, so I took out all of the flooring. If the tile is set at the depth of the door frame, maybe you can ask someone to help you lift the slider (one person at each end) above its lower frame and tilt the slider out, after retracting the rollers all of the way up. Or, retract the rollers all of the way up and try to tilt the slider out at the top frame, of course with someone's help. Those sliders are heavy. When my sister and I replaced my sliding glass door, one of the rollers would not retract, so we had to use a large flat-blade screwdriver to pry it up on that end. Maybe you can pry up each end of your slider to get enough clearance to remove it. Use a cloth to protect the finish on the door.
