I think your observations about people's behavior in Nigeria as been too forward to get married is relatively correct. Relatively in the sense that in America and in the West the societal pressure to get married is less or non existing. I met a lot of them in Thailand and even at their late 20s to early 30s, they are very comfortable not married. In Africa, family sometimes can be pressuring , most women get married to have respect and also women don't tend to be that career obsessed which leads to earning degrees and specialization to become self reliant like in the west, so getting married is first most think of not career accomplishment as age is a big factor in child bearing

I agree with you about marriage.. I Stayed in the UK and US as a single lady until I came to Nigeria and the pressure of marriage was a big discussion to my Uncles, Aunties, relatives and so on. They even started praying for me until I have to tell them to leave me alone.. I choose to be single and it's not a crime to be single.

Thank you, American need to learn from Nigeria But it's honor to have caring parents, friends who care to help you to chose your mates. USA customs and Laws are changes so much when it come to marriage.

I"m a feminist and I love the focus on marriage and family. It's straight up scientific, women's ability to bear children and have energy to raise children decrease as they age. Makes total biological sense. And who said Africans are not logical enough? Compare music from Nigeria vs. US alone, if you pick out the theme in each song, US music frowns upon serious relationships, marriage, families and no wonder US people behave as so. Yuck.

I know there is nothing bad in being single. But I just pray I wont give birth to a child that tells me he(she) wants to be single. I think every body can be happy in marriage if and only if they find the right partner. I think most people are unhappy in marriage because they married the wrong person. You can't tell me that theres nobody meant for you out there

Great observations... although men can be pressured just as much as women. I think that it's just a cultural thing/norm as folks expect you to be married between your 20's and 30's, but marriage isn't for everyone, and no, one size does not fit all. There are those whom are not happy with their marriage and would not have done it if only they knew, and there are some who are just happy, and there are some who don't prioritize marriage. Each to his own... whatever floats your boat... Everyone has their reasons, but these days, the modern woman/man have very different ideology concerning marriage. Marriage just isn't what it used to be back in the early 80's and 90's. MGTOW for life!!

I'm thinking about moving to Nigeria within a year for good. I'm 65 yrs and Im retired. I don't want to own home. I treat people fairly in all aspects but I'm not a very trusting person . I have traveled when I was in the service. I'm sort of a loner, very selective about friends. Do you think I would be accepted in Lagos. I really don't want to marry again. I'm a kind man and I get along well with everyone. I want a relationship but dating only. 'm also an Engineer so the electrical situation will not be a problem for me. Lol. I would love to hear your suggestions about older men dating, places to live, owning a car and starting a business. I want to open a club there if possible.

@@russelljohnson2860 There are lots of single and older women who are doing good and owning their own businesses but lonely too in Nigeria. So, you'd surely fit in. The pressure she talked about only focuses on younger men.

You can't copy and paste 1000s of years of western civilization. We are in 1930 as a people. Those things were same in the west in 15th-early 90s. It's sad.. life is in stages. It's has rippling consequences. Women in the US and UK. Have built technological advancement, the cloths , the camera, the electronics you're using took sacrifice of the past of their relationship and family unit and the brilliant products to produces it for their society now they can afford fuckary. Where are you as a people. Where are we as people. We have work to be done.
