I have an Adler 167. I love this machine, although it's quite old. I'm looking for a place to get parts as I need the knee lever
@TRADERnel7 жыл бұрын
really nice machine sounds like an old Harley what would be the difference or the benefits on having a top-loading or side loading bobbin
@AlexanderDyer7 жыл бұрын
Some people say the top is easier to load since they can see it but it is subjective. If you have a side load you quickly get used to loading by feel. I have both styles and they both seem good to me. Harleys sound goooood! Thanks.

That looks very similar to my Pfaff 145, both made in Germany so, no surprise, right? Sweet machine!

I like the speed range control on this. Is that a Servo Motor? That would be a nice segment to add to machine review, "Which motor it has". I really enjoy your videos. Thanks!
@AlexanderDyer7 жыл бұрын
I have a "demo" table that I put many of these machines into for video production and it has a servo motor in it and that is what I did for this video too. I personally prefer servo motors but others like the clutch motors. I just have better control with a servo.
@Lapeerphoto7 жыл бұрын
Oh, right. That makes sense!! I've just gotten my first (well 2 - package deal) Industrial Machines. Both have clutch motors. After I make a few $$, and sell the 281-3, I am going to try out a Servo Motor. I did change to the smallest pulley on my Singer 211u, that will be the main machine. It helped with the speed control, a lot. Thanks again!

Hello nice video , i have the same machine and i would like learn how to use... can you tell me how insert the thread please Tha nks
@AlexanderDyer2 жыл бұрын
Threading is similar for most machines. I have done it so much on so many machines without diagrams that it has become second nature, that is, it seems intuitive. I don't have this machine anymore to show you but here is a machine that is close and I think should get you in the ball park. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5KxpKCdfbatitE

Thanks for the short review and mentioning the heft of this machine. I have a question for you about top load vs. side load bobbins. Do you see any advantage to either style over the other? If you have a video on this bobbin question already, I must've missed it. Can you tell me which video to look for? Thank you again for your excellent videos.
@AlexanderDyer7 жыл бұрын
I believe it to be a matter of personal preference. I use both and do not have a preference of one over the other. I have read that some prefer the top loading bobbin for ease of loading due to being able to see what they are doing but operators quickly get accustomed to loading by feel of the other style. Another point of view is that the side is better since you can change out without removing your work.
@IRDeezlSmoke7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. I had not thought of the issue removing the work to load a top loading bobbin. Otherwise for beginners like me, the side load bobbin is usually a "by feel" installation and takes more practice.
@AlexanderDyer7 жыл бұрын
You are right about practice and in the beginning you can always tip the machine back so you can see what you are doing til you get the hang of it.

Hello again Alexander. I bought the machine I mentioned in my comment 3 weeks ago. It's an Adler 167-RE/73 ??? but appears to be the same as 167- gk 373 can you explain this serial#. Also the presser foot tube extending out the top to the leaf spring does not protrude much on mine, I actually had to put a small washer under the pinned cap so the foot would contact the plate because the cap was bottoming on the shaft guide, any input on that? The machine appears to sew ok and has all the merits you gave it. thanks again for your channel.

I only had this one a short time and I don't think I will be much good for information on it. Try the sewing machine forum on leatherworker.net, There are guys there that know this stuff way better than me and have helped me out when I had a question about this very machine.

Mr. Dyer, Some of the sewing machines you show have leaf springs like the Chandler in this video. Is there an advantage to it?
@AlexanderDyer6 жыл бұрын
I think it is just another way to accomplish the job of applying pressure to the foot. Both methods seem to work well. I would not hesitate to get another if the situation presents itself.

great videos very helpful, I'm in ontario canada I see this machine for sale for $400 in decent looking shape. good price? I have a techsew 611 $250 right now, not that good(being kind) and still looking.

Hi Mr Dyer, I have and Adler 167 and have some issues getting the tension right for sewing 1000d cordura. No matter how hard I try I still can’t get a perfect uniform stitch without traces of thread showing through the back stitch or top stitch. Am using the right bonded Nylon thread and needles...Is there something you can recommend to resolve these issues? I’ve followed your video on top and bottom tension but still haven’t reached a solution... thanks in advance!
@AlexanderDyer4 жыл бұрын
Your thread should pull straight up off of the spool. Use two layers of fabric. Check your thread path. Try a new needle.

Is it manual or auto lubricated? Thanks for all your videos. I enjoy them all. Even the carpenter bees 🐝. I never knew they existed
@AlexanderDyer5 жыл бұрын
This is manually lubricated. A system of lubrication which has kept millions of machines in good working order for over 100 years. Carpenter Bee is a funny name since they don't build anything, they just drill holes. LOL
@vsmetc73055 жыл бұрын
I see one for sale locally for $400 (Canadian). I’ve never used an industrial machine before but want one for bag making so walking foot to feed thick multi layered fabrics. I sew slow so would prefer manual oiling. I would put a servo motor on it to sew nice and slow until my accuracy improves. Thanks again

Speaking of adlers... how about the adler 267? Is it worth the hype?
@tHaH4x0r3 жыл бұрын
Afaik the 67 167 and 267 are all nearly mechanically identical and all excellent workhorses. There are 3 versions of the 267 as far as I know, the pre-merge days (adler 267) which I think is a flat gray color, the post merge (post 1990) model which is a hammered gray, and the white post 2003 model. All except the recent 2003 model are build in germany. For some people this matters a lot, but from what I heard quality control on the modern machines is excellent, so it is not issue where they are made. The biggest difference between the 167 and 267 as far as I know, is the stitch length adjustment to a more simple and intuitive turning knob.

You still have this machine?
@losseke6 жыл бұрын
Hi, I also have a machine and have everything done as with you, the machine picks up the wire but when I start to suffocate it becomes a chaos down, it is as if the tension of the wire is not on time. Controlling the voltage with the button also does not work, if I put it low or high it stays the same. The thread is 20 and needle 134/140 from schmetz. I use Google Translator because I live in Belgium. Can you find a solution?
@AlexanderDyer6 жыл бұрын
If your tension is too small it will loops of thread on the bottom of your work. Try to tighten your tension.

I thought so, there has been no maintenance in years, the spring that you wire through was not working and was bent, now everything first put back on point and the appearance to help. Thanks for the info.

@@AlexanderDyer Hi, thanks for your answer, she sews more now something is not quite right, she will check today at 20 points. Is my 140 needle not too small for wire of 20? I get belts at the auto supply store. You will need to establish a total length. Also they sell leather that can be cut to size but I tend to get the auto belts. Mock up your belt with some cording to find your length.
