@@HansHurin they didn't exist at the time this game was filmed and Reaper King is one of my favourite commanders. Reaper King is one of those commanders I build from scratch and tear apart about once per year, haha. EDIT: Also, I use Transmute Artifact in the deck to transmute Reaper King into any artifact in my deck that I want, including very mean things like Possessed Portal.

Haha. What were you expecting? I'm the guy playing the deck you see in the video. I've built every version of him you can imagine and unfortunately most of those methods aren't very good decks. My favourite method of abusing him in a deck that still stands on its own is in a token spam deck with "hack" cards that change the creature type of your creatures

Michael forgot a lot of triggers and also made quite a few bad plays. For example, there was no need to cast brainstorm immediately, when waiting a turn would have netted him another Rashmi trigger.

Matthew's deck looks close to a cEDH deck. Matthew forgot a Rashmi trigger early on, Michel didn't get the Monarch after swinging with Dack's Duplicate/Rashmi.

@@Zaalbarjedi Unfortunately, we don't have the gift of foresight, telepathy or omniscience. So sitting down at a table with strangers at an LGS you sometimes end up with a discrepancy in power level and sometimes even with friends, you just wanna play with your new toy even if it's weaker than what is being played. Things like that happen. Nobody was bitter about it, we all had fun.

Very pleased to see a Rashmi deck that actually grinds value. Y'all might see counterspell.deck, but try and fail to properly utilize Rashmi for card advantage, and typically it's because it gets removed... Because there wasn't a counter back up. I was sad to see an utter lack of scarecrow destroy triggers... I feel like there are better options for 5 color friends if there's no synergy with RK

you can't cast 1cmc spells with a rashmi trigger from a 1cmc spell, it needs to cost less... and anyway even if you pay 1 to cast the brainstorm you'd better wait for the next turn to get another rashmi trigger... also, did he forget the rashmi trigger on swan song? and on flusterstorm..? and on arcane denial...? wtf i'm starting to see a pattern here :P

Ok, I have a Riku deck I haven’t played yet, how do you resolve “stolen” or copied extra turn spells? Do you wait till your turn to take the extra one or do you go next, out of order?

So if you copy an extra turn spell, yours resolves first, then theirs. I’m pretty sure because the original happened last, they get the first instance of the extra turns.

@@ga_ga_gang_minecraft6595 bad news is Scarecrows are absolutely horrible as a tribe and there's only maybe two of them that are worth playing. Good news is.your scarecrows don't have to be scarecrows. I'm a big fan of making a Reaper King deck with repeatable token generators and cards that change the creature type of all your creatures. Deck generates offence and destroys permanents at will with Reaper King in play. I do have to insist on REPEATABLE token generators because then you can start blowing stuff up immediately when Reaper King comes into play even though you're tapped out. Or at the very least, passively generate tokens while freeing your mana up to do other things.

I have a reputation at that LGS for having very nasty decks that can pull out a win out of nowhere. I once won a game with my Titania deck the turn AFTER I had 0 permanents in play. (Somebody had just destroyed my entire board, including lands.) That's why almost every video I'm in on this channel I'm very focused on.

I tried for 2 years to make a viable rashmi deck but could never get it to work (I was trying to play spells from the top)... then I put up something similar to the one shown here, with very low cmc instants and rashmi used mostly as card draw, but then I realized it was way too high on power level for my playgroup and removed all the infinite combos (scepter+dramatic reversal for instance), now it wins with creatures but it's still bit too strong, expecially cause wizards keeps printing simic bombs like koma, oko, etc..

Don't be apologetic about playing a deck that's "too strong". Unfortunately, player skill is always gonna be a factor and recognizing good cards and good decks is part of that. I understand trying to play with a level playing field but you're still allowed to have fun. Your fun is just as valid as everyone else's at the table.

@@okgut2033 there was barely any politics in that game and everyone was pretty much going all out trying to win. Unfortunately I didn't really have any options (as you can see with the poor card draws) so there wasn't anything I could've done different. That said my deck would be VERY different if I built it today because I've learned a lot of things since then in how to construct a functional superfriends deck that doesn't rely on combos or gimmicks. (instant speed board wipes are your best friend) It wasn't this deck's best showing, which seems to happen a lot whenever I'm on here. And it's hilarious because I promise you my reputation at that store is well-earned but it never comes across in the few games I get on camera, haha.

He cast a Negate to counter the Downfall. Its very hard to tell but the art is slightly different and there's less lines if flavor text visible on the Negate than the Dispel.

@@4wg368 Because when this game was filmed the other 5 colour commanders were Child of Alara or Karona the False God. There weren't any good options and I absolutely love Reaper King. I have a few win conditions built-in with Reaper King at the helm. Likr Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast making three copies of Reaper King with his ultimate and thus destroying 9 permanents or Transmute Artifact to cheat a Possessed Portal into play, etc. He's one of my favourite commanders and War of the Spark just came out and I wanted tk play a fun derpy superfriends deck.

Unfortunately, as awesome as Reaper King is, he doesn't do anything on his own and players often just won't cast him until they have SOMETHING in hand to make him worth casting. You don't want to expose him to removal for 3-4 turns when you don't have any payoff cards in hand. He's a removal magnet.

This is one of my weakest decks I've played in the last decade tbh. That reputation is well-deserved, don't worry. I'm not being unfairly judged here, haha. Though it does sometimes get annoying where there's a very legitimate threat on the table people just ignore because I have a bad reputation.

Matthew seemed to have out out for Jamieson the entire game. Was pretty brutal to watch. Game was also a good example of why I think most players don't get much value of top. Seemed like it was repeatedly just a mana sink for him.

Top is amazing. I think the problem is when you don't have ways of drawing extra cards or shuffling your library you're stuck sinking mana desperately trying get to the good stuff hidden underneath the top 2.

@@philllllllll I didn't say top was bad. I said most players don't get value out of it in decks they put it in. Expanding on that, I think it often lacks value for them because they end up turning it into a two mana scry one by using it to draw every turn... Which is exactly what it was for most of this game when he was topping every turn. Agree it can be a very good card under the circumstances you describe (with draw, or ability to shuffle library). If you're consistently using it to draw though on your turn, it's probably something you should reevaluate.

Holy Matthew and Jamieson came by with their cEDH decks looks like. Joel brought a strong deck too and Michael brougt a strong synergy in his. This is like 85% a cEDH match. Could easily be a casually competitivie one. Was fun to watch :D

As an occasional cEDH player myself I can tell you none of this is even close to cEDH. It might be high power for your group but that isn't what cEDH is. I'm really glad you had fun though!

The problem with Rhystic Study is the idiots who refuse to pay the tax. Thalia increases noncreature costs by 1 and people don't complain. Rhystic Study gives people the OPTION to ignore it and they do. Which gives the blue player insane advantage and it drives me crazy. Pay your taxes people!

I understand that having a certain number of counterspells is a necessity, especially in EDH, but Matthew had _far_ too many. What I don't understand is how people build decks like that, decks that specifically stop your opponents from doing _anything_ during the game, and then shake hands and smile with the person and say 'good game' when you counterspelled everything they did.

@@evafox9696 for me fun police means to take the biggest threats at the table because most players in my group don't know shit about threat assessment. So as one of the experienced players I take care of all the game ending cards so the people can play fair magic. Except me of course. Playing control in Edh is hard enough but it's a challenge.

@@WiiTara idk even for me super friends isn’t fun to play against but it’s a lot less fun the one who’s playing them if they instantly become public enemy number 1

@@boopthief2668 Yeah of course. Its horrible if you get focused while actually contributed nothing to the game like in the beginning. On the other hand super friends decks are sadly the ones that escalate the quickest. You saw in this video what it actually took to finish them of and how close they were to winning even after all the focus in the early game.

I'm targeted every match. That comment about my reputation at the LGS isn't unfounded. But it comes with the territory. I play decks that I personally find enjoyable and some players are scared and target me heavily every match. Doesn't bother me all that much. I'm having fun even when I lose.

@@philllllllll If you can withstand that. Thats totaly great and I greatly respect this attitude. I just sadly know players who are taking being targeted very badly even if they are ahead or if the power level of their deck is far above the others.

I don't mind it. I'm playing cards I think will win me the game. They're trying to stop me. I try to find a way around that and win despite their best efforts. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't. It is what it is.
